Werdum represents good value at 2.0+ I reckon. Jeebus, crack of dawn Sunday hey....I remember the Rampage/Henderson fight and coming home from a bender, picking up the phone and settling in with a few more ales for that one. Have a wedding Sat night so history could repeat itself!
Even more injuries have hit this show, this should be the final lineup though.
Main card
Welterweight bout: Matt Hughes vs Thiago Alves - can't see Alves stopping Hughes's takedown. Hughes to overwhelm Alves with some GNP
Middleweight bout: Michael Bisping vs Jason Day - Day looks pretty solid but if he was good enough to beat Bisping he wouldn't be fighting him yet
Heavyweight bout: Brandon Vera vs Fabricio Werdum - toughest fight on the show to pick, Vera's probably got the advantage standing and his wrestling will keep Werdum from getting on top if it goes to the ground
Middleweight bout: Nate Marquardt vs Thales Leites - Nate by decision
Welterweight bout: Marcus Davis vs Mike Swick - another tough one to pick. Swick looked flat in his WW debut, if he comes in like that again Davis should take it
Prelims
Light Heavyweight bout: Jason Lambert vs Luiz Cane
Middleweight bout: Martin Kampmann vs Jorge Rivera - Kampmann returns after a year out with injury, he was set to fight Franklin for a title fight before that so a win here will put him right in the mix
Heavyweight bout: Antoni Hardonk vs Eddie Sanchez - Hardonk's the better striker and Sanchez has no ground game that I know of, Hardonk by KO
Welterweight bout: Roan Carneiro vs Kevin Burns
Welterweight bout: Jess Liaudin vs Paul Taylor
Lightweight bout: Matt Wiman vs Thiago Tavares
My tips
Welterweight bout: Matt Hughes vs Thiago Alves - Hughes to takedown and GnP
Middleweight bout: Michael Bisping vs Jason Day - Day looks promising, but Bisping @ home
Heavyweight bout: Brandon Vera vs Fabricio Werdum - Werdum for the upset
Middleweight bout: Nate Marquardt vs Thales Leites
Welterweight bout: Marcus Davis vs Mike Swick - Swick to be better now he's used cutting to 170lbs.
Prelims
Light Heavyweight bout: Jason Lambert vs Luiz Cane
Middleweight bout: Martin Kampmann vs Jorge Rivera
Heavyweight bout: Antoni Hardonk vs Eddie Sanchez
Welterweight bout: Roan Carneiro vs Kevin Burns
Welterweight bout: Jess Liaudin vs Paul Taylor
Lightweight bout: Matt Wiman vs Thiago Tavares
I don't have much success predicting the UK shows, only 5/11 here after going 4/9 for UFC 80.
Poor form by Alves in missing weight, if he made it and everything else went the same way he'd have a guaranteed title fight coming up. I didn't realise he was so huge, solid takedown defense too. I wouldn't be surprised though if he's asked to make weight and win against somebody like Koscheck instead. Can't see anything left for Hughes to do after the Serra fight, he's still good enough to beat many guys out there but I don't see him wanting to finish his career as a gatekeeper.
Werdum's the clear number one contender now but with Nog and Mir not fighting until December he'll probably have another fight before that, but with Sylvia and Arlovski gone from the UFC there's not many options left. Feel for Vera though, it was a very premature stoppage, there's not much else you can do when a BJJ black belt has you mounted. He might have to put aside his ego though and make the drop to 205. Just look at what it's done for Bisping's career. Like most I'd went off Bisping a bit after the Hamill and Evans fights but I'm well and truly back on board, he looks much better at middleweight.
Marquardt was lucky not to be disqualified after the spike piledriver slam, the second point deduction was rough though. Swick looked much better this time around, a level above Davis.
I'm loving the recent decision to cut out the excess stuff like walk-ins, interviews and preview videos from the prelims so we can see more of them though. There was shades of Tank vs Steve Nelmark in Wiman's knockout of Tavares. The biggest surprise had to be BJJ black belt Carneiro being choked out by a blue belt. Cane and Kampmann looked the goods.

Hughes should stop trying to please UFC and jumping in to fight wherever they need him. The look on his face before this fight was one of someone who did not want to be there, or didn't think he could win,or both. The fight against Serra would be a great way for him to go out. I sort of believe Alve's excuse about not making weight cos of a badly rolled ankle 10 days prior to the fight. It was either risk not making weight or pulling out, which would have made him the 1132nd fighter to pull out of this card.
How many sacrificial lambs is Bisping going to get?
What is going on in Vera's head?He would automatically be a top contender at LHW yet he prefers to be an undersized HW.
Felt sorry for Marquadt-a really improved fighter, yet lucky not to get disqualified alltogether after that pile driver.
Kampman is one skillfull grappler-imagine getting your ass handed to you by a nerd lookig bloke like that!
Well its over... Tips were ok, 7/11 but there were a few surprises.
Good to see Hughes want one more fight and that's Serra. As he said, thats one for the fans. I think Matt was outclassed but Alves did look a fair bit bigger than Hughes.
Werdum looked great, but it was an early stoppage. Pretty disappointing. In Japan they'd have never stopped it them. I reckon Pride and Dream reffing is a lot better personally than the 'safety above everything' that the UFC refs have been taking lately. Especially considering Dan Mirgliotta's inconsistency reffing the kimbo fight. This is fighting, ultimate fighting actually where people can get hurt. Anyway, Vera should mix it up at 205 IMO better weight for him.
Bisping, like at UFC 83, looked excellent. He'll be a force to be reckoned at 185 with if he keeps up that kind of attack.
The most improved of the event to me was Matt Wiman. Great performance and a great fight. Excellent guard, and relentless attack, and pretty impressive jiu jitsu. Last time I heard he was a blue belt, so that was an impressive JJ game considering. His standing and wrestling looked improved too.
Overall a pretty good event.

haha, you should see our highest ranked black belt instructor at my jiu jitsu club. If you saw him on the street you'd think he's a typical office nerd, but in reality he could snap your arm off and feed it to you!
I see him sometimes at the station or walking to work, and we give each other the "fight club" nod. Funny :)
Marquart was stupid. Got what he deserved. Wiman was very good all round and Vera was unlucky but getting beaten. Bisping needs to beat a decent 185 fighter for mine. Patrick Cote would be a good fight, if not even Rich Franklin as the new gate keeper. Just give him someone who can fight back. Not a bad event.
