View Full Version : Rules committee to act on Freo?
If Freo players like Farmer and Pavlich keep doing these massive performances for frees The Rules Committee will have to bring in a Diving free kick, similar to Soccer 'carding' divers - I am only half way through re-watching the 2nd Q and their efforts are Oscar worthy
Oh yeah, imagine if we had lost the game - how controversial would have the 'pre-game' goal have been!(for the free)(for the 50)

I agree, it was an absolute disgrace, but what you are missing is that they wouldn't have had free's paid against them as the umpires actually gave them free kicks.
The first free before the game was a bigger act than Matthew Lloyd, and Pav should feel ashamed of himself as he is a better player, but he tried it again about 3 other time, one on the wing, where he actually layed on the ground waiting for the free.
Farmers first free was a joke, if the umpire had a brain he would have seen that, how does a player hold someone over the shoulder as Carrazzo was penalised for and that forces the player to be lifted off the ground like Farmer ended up, if anything, holding somebody over the shoulder would cause them to be pushed down to the ground and restricted from moving upwards.
And then later Farmer contested a ball on the ground and threw his arms up, lucky for Carrazzo he had his hands up as well so how could he hold Farmer....Farmer is a joke and has been for a while.
Good to hear the commentators talking about the faking for frees, hopefully the AFL make a comment on it...cause it was like watching soccer.

Dont know what the AFL can do, the only thing is that the umpires will / should work out the players who take dives and be mindful of it (Farmer though is a chronic stager at this).
Its the second time this year we have given away a free before the bounce (Scotland on Monfries Vs Dons) we also need to be a bit smarter as well.
Cue people saying the staging is turning AFL into soccer.
Acting for frees has been going on for years.
Penalise it and it will disappear, though what may be more effective is a weekly "SHAME" segment on one of the football programs.
But lets not get too sanctimonious, its not like Carlton players are completely innocent of staging.
Though I do agree, Farmer's incidents were pretty bad.

It is simple... the AFL needs to instruct umpires to ignore the staging and blatantly tell the players to stop... Matty James and Little Ray would!

I think it needs to become a reportable offence. That may seem over the top, but staging has the potential to change the outcome of a match...potentially it is a lot more damaging than an innocuous trip etc. If players knew the match review panel would be looking at each 'performance' in slo-mo I think they would be a little more hesitant to throw the arms back and wince in agony everytime the ball comes near them.
the problem was.............the umpire who paid the free kick didnt see the bump and stage
he at no stage was near them, and was looking at the centre bounce and was 50m away at the time, then he saw Pavlich on the ground and paid the free
mind you between him and Pavlich was Setanta, so he would have been blind sided even if he did see the bump.
total lack of responsibility by the umpire!!!!

Farmer is a pathetic ____..All those times he's humilated our proud club with his wanky 'Kiss the Sky' wank...
I'm so happy we beat them, just to humiliate Farmer the ____!

Couldn't agree more.
The umps just need to review the tapes and send the memo around that these guys are diving for kicks. Hell, they are making Lloyd look tame in his worst days.
Farmer was in such bad form that it's little wonder he, after kicking a goal from 20m out on 45 degree angle thought it was heaven sent........one of the few kicks that hurt us that he actually earned.........MIRACLE.;)
As for Pav. It's sad that a player of his calibre has been dragged down by his teamates to such levels.........as was commented on by the Ch 10 crew.......do you realise how hard it is to knock down a 100kg AFL footballer?
I think Wiggo held up a card with 9.5 on it from HF.......being a diving expert and all.:D
Where would the Herald Sun be w/o the Carlton board - not only did Gary Lyon adapt Bluebears 'de-listing thread' for his column but Mark Robinson used this one for his Actors headline :p
