View Full Version : Murphy and Fisher Contract Negotiations

The source is from a guy from my dad's work who is very involved in the football club. I know its not the most reliable of sources but in the past he has been pretty spot on with his comments.

Anyway, I thought Id post this to see what you all think.

Murphy- Has placed a $450k p.a salary on his head and is happy to leave. Apparently his old man is very tough to deal with and is advising on the deal. I think Murphy is a gun and someone we can ill afford to lose. He will only keep improving. $450k a year though is a tall order for a guy who still has a lot to prove.

Fisher- Also at a stale mate with the club. He is asking for quite a bit more than his worth. Despite his kicking, he provides a strong target. Dont think we can lose another tall forward after the loss of Kennedy.

Thoughts???

Sometimes we can worry too much about contract negotiations. I won't worry about it until Swann or Icke say something drastic.

My dad knows this bloke who owns a fish and shop in Werribee who knows this other guy who sells the big issue on the corner of spencer and flinders street who just happens to also mow the lawns of the chick who works in he carlton shop says that's a crock of shit.

Mate...thats an original joke right there. Havnt heard that before. The whole point of my post wasnt to state a fact but rather to discuss the unlikely scenario. I explained it wasnt a strong source.

You've been pretty spot on in the past:

The source is a solicitor for an AFL club so he is on the inside! He reckons Carlton will trade pick 3 for Swan and Didak. Collingwood will then use the pick to secure Judd.

Id be pretty happy with that deal but cant really see it happening (especially after Swan's brownlow performance). My source assures me its definately the whisper on the inside. What you reckon?

Not sure how true this is...my source is a one eyed Collingwood supporter who heard this from his mate whose best mate is on the Collingwood board (already seems unlikely :) )

But I heard there is gonna be a 3 way deal involving Carlton, Collingwood and Geelong, which would see Tarrant to Geelong, Stevens to Collingwood and some players or draft picks to Carlton.

Let me know if anyone has heard anything more on this...OR...if they would be happy.

I would be pretty ******d off if we lost Stevens (unless it was for a ready made player and top 10 pick)

Carlton training- Cloke Injured, Thornton didnt train
Heard Cloke went down at training with an arm/shoulder (hope its not the one he had operated on)- Would seem unlikely this week

Thornton- Also unlikely considering he didnt train

Fev to Stay
Apparently Fev met with Swann today and told him he wanted to stay...
heard from someone who hasnt been wrong with this kind of stuff yet!

Ratten just signed with the Blues- Definite
Very reliable...its official!

I'd be devastated if we lost Murphy. I would have thought that with Judd and Stevens coming back into midfield, and Carlton really improving off-field, it would be a pretty good place to be. Still, won't worry until I hear Swan or Icke say something that warrants concern.

for the sake of argument lets say this is true! Is murphy worth 450k Per year. and if so how long do we sign him 4?

In my opinion yes and probably a 3 yr deal.

FFS Murphy has played how many games ~ 35? Missed half of his first season with a shoulder injury and not all of his 35ish games have been that of a 450K player.

I would happily offer him 200K + performance incentives for next year and increase that each year till he's 24. Then at 24 if he's the player we all think he'll become easily sign him up to 400+ for 3 years.

Murphy will be signing with the club for another 2 or 3 years, just a matter of working through all the details and the time required to finalize.

It will not be anywhere near $450k per year. This will not be his biggest contract the next one will be.

I can't believe that.. I know money makes people do terrible things, but learning under Judd in the midfield in a team clearly on the up, with what seems is a good mix of kids and stars like Judd and Fev, and add to that great off-field personnel and a coach the boys love playing for, and I just can't see Murphy moving elsewhere for money.

Longest sentence ever.

i wish pppl wouldn't post stuff like this unless it was true b/c the thought of losing Murphy is frightening. Still if this is his attitude we should let him go and invest the money in Gibbs b/c Gibbs will be a star. If it's true about Fisher then i wouldn't lose much sleep. He has his strengths but i don't want the club to pay big money for a forward that can't kick for goal. They were saying recently that Geelong players were taking pay cuts so they could stay with the club. why is that Carlton seem to end up with players that just want to milk the club for every dollar they can get?

I agree. The previous aadminstrations were desperate to keep players and ended up exceeding the salary cap which cost us bigtime over the last few years.

Murphy offered to give up his No. 3 jumper to Juddy to get him over at Princes Park. He won't be leaving - 450k for a 40 game player is unreasonable in anyones books. If he becomes elite (like he should), then he'll get the big money. Not before.

I would be shattered if we lost Murphy...
I am positive Murph wants to stay. His efforts in-game and work on the track show that.
450k is a lot for a would-be 4th year player...
300k for 2-3 years i'd say.

Hopefully as players develop into mature senior players and we become a powerhouse once more, the players make a pact to stay together to keep a dynasty going. (Ablett & Co have said the senior playing group/leadership group have done this at Geelong)

Why not?
Haven't you heard of Tarrant, Cloke and Rocca?

Rocca is now a b-grade hack that kicks a bag a couple times a year.

My thoughts are you should give up life....posting crap like this makes you look like a fool.

Unless you are willing give the name of the person who works at the football club, whom this information has come from then its as useful tits on a bull and holds as much credibility as Terry Wallace.

Murphy, is happy at Carlton, he is playing his best footy so far in his short career, he loves playing with Judd, so much he follows Judd everywhere. He is a future captain along with his mate Gibbs and knows the Blues are will be on fires in a few years, he won't go anywhere. Plus like others have said, he had only played 43 games, no player commands that sort of salary at a young age and no many games.

Fisher, is another who won't go anywhere, although he might ask for a rise in his contract, that is normal for any player, and just what would Fisher be on now, i would say 125-150k....i think he is entitled to a rise.

And just so you know, whenever a player is up for a new contract they always ask for a increase...its the normal process.

No do us all a favour and bugger off or give us the name of the source.

I'm off to find those tits on the bull :D

Look at it from Murph's point of view.

- We've just recruited Judd, reportedly on $1M+ per season
- Fev is rumored to draw a salary of $800K+ per season
- Just watched the business of AFL first hand when his good mate JK was shuffled off to WCE
- Swan publicly says we've got plenty of room in our salary cap to recruit another top player

I believe all senior listed first year players are payed the same amount (somewhere around 55k) - although high draft picks might be paid more. Seeing as though he signed for 3 years, you'd expect he was on a bit more than most players in their first contract.

Also, the club's financial situation shouldn't have too much position on contracts, given that the salary cap is paid by the AFL and we must pay 92.5% of the cap.
