I was just thinking about how everyone is always argueing which is the best State Football League in Australia. Perhaps the AFL could run a State League Champions Knockout run to coincide with the Ansett Cup, possibly having a game prior to the Ansett Cup match.
There would be 8 teams split into 2 groups of four consisting of the State League Champions of the previous season, and play each team in their group once in a round-robin format.
The top two teams in each group would then compete in the semi-finals, and the winners of the semis in the final.
Group A: VFL Champions (Sandringham), TFL Champions (Clarence), NTFL Champions and ACTAFL Champions.
Group B: WAFL Champions (East Perth), SANFL Champions (Central Districts), AFLQ Champions (Southport) and Sydney AFL Champions (Pennant Hills).
Semi-Finals: Match 1:Top team in Group A vs. Runner-up in Group B
Match 2:Top team in Group B vs. Runner-up in Group A
Final: Winner of Match 1 vs. Winner of Match 2
