View Full Version : Local Papers (lack of stories & results)
Some of you may have noticed a lack of stories in the Local Papers. I have been told Leader News have decided to pretty drop printing the results for any Clubs that come under the Moreland Leader. Theres no use calling or emailing results to the paper they WONT print em as the deadlines for the paper dictate it ... But!
What they are looking for is Stories, celebrations of Milestones of players or a longtime supporter. Human interest stories are the angle if you wanna get your Club into the paper. So if anyone has anything of interest get onto your local Papers Sports reporters, remember they will need at least one week led in time so theres no use calling em on a Thursday and then wondering why the story didn't make the next weeks edition.
This is just a suggestion, Clubs like Jacana could do worse than get their Club into the Local paper with some good news stories.

Well done Tess - I use to love getting all the local papers each week to read up on all the local kids, edfl, tac, cannons, jets - and now NOTHING.
The paper's are so skinny they have nothing worth reading in them. :thumbsd:

Tess, you are made a vaild point here. I to agree with your agreement and what you are getting at.
Im sure if you wanted your club to have more profile you can take upon yourself and do something about it. Reading about junior players/results etc is what we all want but it seems time is changing and so are the papers. Your club would of had the most attention this year due to merge.

Jacana sent ALL papers in the hume area about thier youth girls team who they had selected as captain who is a member of the afl academy none of the local papers were interested in the article, was written for them all they had to do was send some one out for photos it was the same article that appeared in the edfl record

Why didn't ya call, why didn't ya call.......
Seriously journo's like to write, it's what they do but you sent them an article all written ready to go and they didn't run it, bastards!
Call the papers and talk to the Sports Journo's, just ask if they help with promoting your Club.
