We all know the drought has caused a bit of a crisis in local football in recent times. There have been a number of grounds that have been resurfaced to give them drought proof grass and a better playing surface.
I know St Marys has been done, Grovedale was and Geelong Amateurs was, there have been others i think with maybe a few to go.
I can speak about the Ammos ground which has never been the same since it was flooded in the great flood of 96. It usually ended up as a quagmire after rain. But with the recent resurfacing it is in pristine condidtion. A couple of weeks ago we had a heap of rain on the Friday, normally this would have resulted in shocking mud at Queens Park but i am pleased to say the ground held up well (apart from the cricket pitch of course) and the whole surface did not disintegrate into a mud heap as it normally would have.
I would like to know how other re surfaced grounds are going.
It is great the council is looking after local sport in this way as it is looking at the long term option if you want to mention water tanks as well.
I know some clubs are still playing on dodgy grounds and hopefully all local grounds will get looked after.
I think we are pretty lucky to be playing on the quality of grounds we have considering the drought we are in.
