View Full Version : ROUND 11- West Coast v. Sydney

This game is at Subiaco Oval and starts at 5:40 PM local time.
Last time they met it was all about the Barry Hall punch which over shadowed a massive win to the Swans. I still don't see how he only got 7 weeks for it when Daniel Kerr got 5 weeks for a piss weak headbutt. But still
http://youtube.com/watch?v=_dsiuc169_w
Ben Mickinley kicked four goals for the Eagles in that game.
I expect to see Masten make a return for the Eagles and if Lecras is fit I would like to see him coming back.

Hall got 10, which was reduced for his good record. Kerr's was increased due to his poor record.
Anyways, I'm nervous about this game. Eagle's on the back of an embarrassing 100 point loss and the Swans with an impressive display against the Tigers.
Too hard to predict which game the Eagles will bring this week. You wouldn't expect them to play as bad as they did against this Pies for this game. They played pretty well against the Crows two weeks ago.
To the swans. They have the best % in the league, helped mainly due to their defense being ranked number 1. They had 10+ goal kickers against the Tigers. I just hope this spread continues once Hall comes back. Swans should have the edge in the midfield and a forward line which should have enough scoring opportunities to win the game.
My prediction: Swans by 30 points.

My prediction: Swans by 30 points.
Sounds about right. Hard to know which Weagles team will show though - the difference between their Adelaide and Pies game was astounding. A must win for us if we want to find ourselves in or around the top 4 by years end, and on form we'd have to be feeling pretty confident.

What is with the draw this year, we have played Adelaide and Sydney twice before we have even played other teams once
Being an eagle supporter, must admit l have no idea what team to expect week in week out, one things for sure this isn't our year!
We've got the team that played against the roos and Adelaide, exciting to watch the olds and the news playing together well, then we have the team that played collingwood, no confidents and just doing silly mistakes!
Usually in Perth over the years (note usually!) you tend to see the better team! Lets hope the team that played against Adelaide comes to play! If they do, should be a good game to watch, have us winning by 20pts, IF the team from the weekend, plays, well, it won't be pretty!
Hoping for a draw ha
Wont get my confidence up for the next rounds match too much (lol yeah right), but wont spend all week feeling like crap.
Swans by 1 pt ;):p
swans by 4-5 goals.
i win for west coast would be masssssive.

I'm going to miss this massive rivalry that we used to have. I think Sydney will take it out comfortably. I don't even want to think how many points we are going to lose by. :(
Going to the game.
Hopefully we will be able to put up a respectable showing after last weeks crap

Eagles are always a different prospect at home, while im confident of a win i wouldn't be surprised if we drop this game.
Whilst I would be confident in saying we wont put up a meek effort like we did v Collingwood this week I would think that Sydney still have us covered.
Kirk, Goodes and ROK are in exceptional form and Mickey O'Loughlin always tears us apart.
Syd by 5 goals.

I think the Swans will chalk up a valuable away win but it will be closer than expected.
West Coast are a much better side than they showed against Collingwood, or for that matter than they have shown for most of the year. The Eagles will be keen to regain some pride after such a pitiful performance and they will be up for this game.
Make no mistake, the Swans are a very good side. This is their best start to a season under Paul Roos and that includes the Premiership Season and the Runner-up season. I think that this Swans side is every bit as good as those sides, perhaps even a little better. The Eagles will put up a good fight but will go down valiantly by about 3 -4 goals.

Must win game for the Swans. If we want to have any chance of staying with the top 4, we need to win the games we should win.
Our midfield should be able to come out on top against the Eagles, and I don't think they have the backline to restrict us to anything under 100pts. If we turn up to play, we'll win.
Sydney by 35.

Roos is not taking this one for granted and may change the team to suit the bigger ground and the traditionally tough opponent.

Well even though West Coast's season is over, they won't tank. They already have plenty of talented young players. Getting experience into them and promoting a winning culture is their goal, and given it's at Subi and the traditional rivalry they've had with Sydney, they'll be up for this game and on for this game, which is an important thing to note since this naturally means West Coast will good in terms of work ethic and endeavour, so I'd be surprised if it wasn't close, but I'm still going Sydney by 2-4 goals.

i think west coast still have an edge agaisnt sydney at subiaco
this is a danger game
i dont care where they are on the ladder i wont ever underestimate the eagles
being such a young side you never know which west coast will turn up...will it be the one that flogged the crows...or the one that got raped by collingwood.
if we turn up to play it'll be close, but i still think the swans will have the edge by a few goals.
maybe the subiaco factor could just get us over the line.

This has danger game written all over it. West Coast will want to redeem themselves after their performance against Collingwood. Hopefully Waters won't have a successful challange because without him the Eagles lose a bit of grunt.
Expect Goodes and ROK to continue awesome form. ROK loves playing this ground because of his natural running capacity and he will be a tough matchup as Hunter would normally go with him or Micky O. Ruck duel will be crucial as Cox and Jolly are the two inform ruckman of the competition.
Roosy has come out and said he will make changes to the team due to the size of the ground, don't know who will come in though.
Probably glad Barry Hall isn't back because if he was it would get the players and crowd fired up for the match. I expect the swans to win but wouldn't be surprised if we lost.

give me a break, barry hall didn't have a good record, and if he did its only because the afl were too gutless to rub him out before the 2005 grand final.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. Barry Hall had a good record according to the guidelines set out by the AFL/MRP.

Travis Gaspar anyone?
Travis Gaspar anyone?
AFL conspiracy to let him play well knowing that he was shit.
he should've been rubbed out then we couldve brought adkins/matera in.
it all makes perfect sense.
Imagine the prematch buildup if Barry Hall was playing this week. It would have been great to see how the West Coast fans reacted too him :D
West Coast will be fortunate if they score 100 points.
sydney will be fortunate if they score 10000 points, because i dont think a team has ever done that before.

If Gaspar was shit, why did the Eagles let him play? You only have the Eagles to blame for this, not the AFL.

Pretty silly saying something like that. They won in 2006:rolleyes:
I don't think we'll win this game, but i'm hoping we will at least be competitive. Sydney were excellent last week and are looking very good this year, while we went from outstanding against Adelaide to awful against Collingwood.
But I don't care about logic, I'm tipping the Eagles by 14. And Eagles fans, if you have a ticket can you try showing up this week, or give your ticket to someone who will. The crowd was pathetic against the Crows.
Good ol 2006.

I think funky was trying to gear the rivalry talk back up by putting that pic there, well aware of what was coming his way.
The swans have too much respect for the Eagles to go into the game thinking it's a given. Whatever the form a club like the Eagles and its long term winning culture cannot be denied.
Providing the swans play at their ability though they'll be too experienced and drilled for this match. Swans by 4 goals.

Any reason McKinley is out?
Rested I would say BS. Woosha said a few weeks ago some of the younger players would be rested a couple of times this season (Masten was last week). A lot of unexpected outs though, I didn't think McKinley would go out, Kennedy and Rosa injured is a blow.
Barry Schneider
5 Jun 2008, 19:17
McKinley was good against us earlier in the season and with Kennedy out I would have thought resting a goal kicker could have waited another round.
WC forward line doesn't look like it has many goals in them.Hope I haven't mocked the Swans.
Rosa is a big blow.
Spewing over Ebert also.
Damn.
As Armstrong, McKinley and LeCras are all in the emergencies and small/medium forwards, I wouldn't be surprised to see one of them come in.

Fair point.Could Hunter be the one to drop out and Graham goes to the backline?I thought he had a few more weeks to go with his injury.
Yeah Hunter is back very early, his injury was supposed to keep him out for another 3-4 weeks I think. Who knows though, our club is not very transparent when it comes to injuries.
Sydney 96-60, wont be an attractive match to watch, expect the eagles to come out very hard however the experience factor will prove the difference.

Had nothing to do with the changes. Jack didn't like the odds, so he had a word to them about it. They're juicy now!
its huntaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA time.
expect him to kick 4 minimum.
We should win coz Josh Kennedy is the umpire, he will give us plenty of dodgy frees in front of goal :thumbsu:
Nah but I think it could turn into the Hunter and Seaby show - these talls will kick 11 between them and Sydney (who, like Adelaide before they played us, have been up for a while) will just go through the motions and be like "I cant be bothered man"
This is when Embley will float along the wing, chip it to Braun who will swing onto the left and hit Wirra on the boundary line 40m out in front of the eagles run out area. Wirra misses to the near side - but yeah I know! :thumbsu::)

If I can just tune this thread into sanity fm...
The mirage created 2 weeks ago when the eagles unexpectedly walloped the crows has long since vanished in the desert that is the weasels season. We can now see from the subsequent 100 point drubbing at the hands of the despised pies and the insipid display from the crows at home against the punchless bombers that the eagles win over the crows said more about the form of the crows than it did about the eagles.
Meanwhile, the swans look a 10 goal better team than the one that beat the eagles by 10 goals last time they met.
However, the home ground advantage counts for something. Swans by 14 goals.
You kidding me or are you going soft? I didn't wish him any broken bones, just a fractured ego.

I think Jack will take Kerr
Selwood on Kennelly(He seems to be taking the key running hbf lately)
Stenglein on Kirk
I doubt there will be a hard tag on Fletcher. He gets plenty of it but his disposal is crap and alot of it is on the half back flank..Perhaps McVeigh who has been given more licence to get the ball on the wings but doesn't neglect his defensive duties.
I suppose Glass will get Playfair as O'Loughlin might be a bit nimble for him with his injury.
Hunter usually plays on O'Loughlin and does a good job but I don't know what his role will be.
Play Jamie Graham in the forward line.
He will be really good and stuff.

AS named the back six are;
B Jones Glass Wilkes
Embley Hunter Stinga
Our back half isn't the problem, its how much ball the midfield / forward line let through and don't control.
I'm hoping the swans start like last week. The Eagles are still a proud club and demonstrated against the Crows that playing them in the west is still tough. If the Swans can get the jump early and make the Eagles feel it's not going their way early it could snuff out the resistance.
We need to get on top early, we have shown this year that we fall off a bit when we get behind. A few early goals, get the crowd involved.
Not hoping for too much though, forward line looks a little suspect, strong back six still but may not be enough with Sydney being more free flowing and high scoring this season than previously.
