Seen many of the "team of the centuries" selected by footy clubs around the country but the one recently selected by the Brookers in the Western Region FL in Melbourne must be the best. The team included;
Ted Whitten Snr 321 VFL games plus 29 Interstate, Doug Hawkins 329 &16, Wally Donald 205 & 3, Gary Merrington 174, George Bisset 166 & 1, Dennis Collins 100 (plus more with Carlton), Robert Groenewegan 79, Ray Walker 72, Michael Kelly 57,Ivan Marsh 76 plus 4 others who played senior VFL with Footscray.

Curiously they left out Brian Wilson (Dogs,North,Melbourne & Brownlow) & Richard Wearmouth who played 100 with Footscray.

Pretty impressive for a small industrial suburban club. Anyone come close ?

Impressive - most impressive ! But I'll trade all them for Dunstall coming out of my beloved Coorparoo club in Brisbane.

The Encyclopedia of League Footballers (Main & Holmesby, 1992 edition) describes Richard Wearmouth as "a speedy winger from Rupanyup...", which may explain why he wasn't considered, having presumably gone to Braybrook after his VFL career.
No clue about Wilson, as I'm sure he was a Braybrook local.

Hi Woofer,

I see you mentioned Dennis Collins listed for the greatest Braybrook side of all time. I never saw him play, but from the footage of seen him on "1978 - that was the season that was", he looked like a gun. I looked him up in the AFL player guide where it stated he played for Footscray, Carlton and Richmond, but apart from being belted by Robbie Muir at Moorabbin, he's not really mentioned anywhere. I guess he was one of those players that had all the skill, but lacked the consistentcy.

Cheers,
