View Full Version : Roughies "Hands"
Well as we all may know I am Jarryd Rougheads biggest fan, and I try to keep from pumping this young superstars tires up too much but right now I cant help my self. How good is Roughie's marking? This kid is on the way to have the strongest set of hands in the league. The ammount of times he has hit the ball full pace and taken a mark over head is incredible. He has worked hard in this offseason in his pace and his marking and it is paying off as he sits 5th in the Coleman medal race playing as the 2nd option.

A favourite of mine as well. The improvement this season has been terrific - we just don't use him enough.
Would like to see buddy stay out of the marking contests and let roughie have a go in these situations.

So true, Roughie.
The thing that's scary is the fact that he looks like he can develop even more and become alot stronger.
He's playing great footy as a 21 year old.
I can't wait to see him strut his stuff when he actually hits his peak in a few years.

Exactly, Roughie fits the protocol of a great full forward. He is a man mountain, he has worked on his pace and he has a great contested mark. Roughie gets scragged, and chopped and he still holds the ball. What I love most is he does the basics, he never takes his eye off the footy! The guy will juggle the ball one handed while opponents take a swipe and he never looses it.
We have Roughie who is just what you want in a fullforward, and then you have the athletic, once in a life time type player in Lance Franklin and right there you have a decimating duo!

Roughead is stepping up ala like Buddy last year has a great vertical leap & took more contested marks the other week than uncontested! loving his progress if the Twin Tower's keep this pace up what will they kick this year?
Buddy on 50 Average 5 goals
Roughead on 32 Average 3.2 goals
Buddy to kick the ton with Roughead to kick over 70 !
What is the most 2 key forwards in the same side have kicked in a year? Anyone?
At the start he used to drop a few chest marks, but he has rectified this. In terms of overhead marking, once he has his dukes on it he aint letting go. He out-muscles almost everyone one of one.
Love the Rough man.
There has been a few bloody good duo's over time.
I can't be buggered reading up the numbers but here they are:
The last two that would have kicked big numbers would be Lloyd and Lucas;
but there have been some beauties including:
Ablett and Brownless
Longmire and Carey
Lockett and O'Loughlin
Dunstall and Brereton
I'd be interested to see if any pairings have ever reached the 200 goals a season between them. I reckon Dunstall and Brereton would have gone close a couple of times.

He reminds me a lot like Richo with his excellent strong marks and the not so great conversion rate, but he's like this at 21 where as Richo is in his 30s!

Large hands, still room for improvement/development.

Speaking of hands, they look huge - even from a great distance.
They look like a pair of white baseball mitts

'Large' is being used too much.. you guys are giving Roughie romantic thoughts.
Be strong Roughie.. think of the clitorus. :D
I'm going. I think I just overstepped the mark.. :p
10 box of tissues later and I still love this thread
I forget which year it was, but i remember there was one year where Hudson cracked the ton to win the Coleman, and Matthews was 2nd on 90 something goals. Imagine how much media attention that would get these days if that happened! Come on Roughie, we all love ya! :D
The man with the biggest hands in the AFL had to be Stewart Loewe.
