View Full Version : Boyle - Longest corky in history?

Just wondering how long it can possibly take to get over a corked hip? Personally, I've never had a corked hip, so if anyone can enlighten me, feel free, but jeez it sure seems to be a long time out of the game for a corky.

Anyone heard anything on this? Is there something else to this injury?

From what I heard he had only started running either last week, or the week before so the cork was pretty serious. He hasnt played at Box Hill yet, but you would think he would be getting either a run in the seniors or at the magoos this week.

It will be interesting to see how the forward line will continue to function with the trio, after the dominance the twin towers have had this season.

Yeh, it's been a while, eh?

He'd probably recover faster from an amputated leg.

I have posted this before but here you are again.

On Thursday 15 May Max Bailey told RustyHawk and me that the corkie Boiler copped from Buddy in the Kangaroos game was a severe one. Boiler could not run for 2 weeks and could barely walk.

I note that on the On The Couch programme last Monday Gerrard Healy said he copped a corkie to his (right, I think) hip and it took him 6 weeks to recover.

So given Boiler copped his in round 3 and it was a severe corkie, maybe it is not surprising he has not been back in action before now.

I would expect he will play this week. Box Hill did not have a game last weekend due to VFL playing an interstate game.

Hope that puts some light on the issue.

... I might as well ask.

What exactly is a corkie?

Also known as a deadleg among other names. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charley_horse for details

Boyle is not in our best 22 anyway.
He has clunky hands, no ground ability, is injury prone and has spent how many years on the list? 4? 5? 6?

Tradebait.

Guys. Sometimes a corky calcifies. ie it reacts as if the bone is broken and a calcium deposit starts building up on the bone. The deposit then causes the muscles not work properly and can lead to it effecting the knee.
I am not sure this is what happened to Boyle but when it happened to me I was out for 10 weeks... I actually had my leg in plaster for 4 weeks.

yeah a corky can be quiet painful and serious.
i know of a case, where a player in my football league recieved a corked upper thigh and almost had to have his leg amputated because of it.
so they can be serious.
lets hope boiler is back soon.

Maybe Mike Sheehan can highlight this tonight "On the Couch". Dirty bastards are corking their own players as well!

as has been discussed often this year, if boyle is going to be tradebait at the end of the season, you'll do alright i think.

That's deliberate

It makes no difference if he has a corky or not, Tim Boyles output in his last 20 games don't even warrant a selectin for Box Hill reserves.

If it looks like a spud, performs like a spud ...IT IS A SPUD.

Tim Boyle can join the other Tim, of the Clarke variety and of the same vintage spud, at City Oval for the rest of there playing days.

They are passengers and depth players at best and as they produce sweet FA when they do get a gig and as we will NEVER win a flag with these guys in our 22, i'd rather play youngsters like Morton, WHITECROSS, Stokes & Co ahead of them.

Thank you.

so if willo doesnt do much more this season and either ruffy or buddy get injured who would you have take over the foward line .
boyle has proven what he can do, you think thorp or dowler are going to be our saviours..

Do you think he will stay if he knows he might only play if one of Ruffy or Buddy get injured? Will leave if he can not make the squad everyweek as at least 10 clubs would love to have his services, in particular Carlton

Just remember that Boyle was picked in the team when he was injured, before others.
Three tall marking forwards may be the key against some opposition.

Tim Boyle is a good player, his consistent he reminds me of Rawlings. Did you guys forget how well he was playing last year before he done his hamstring. He had a good preseason and in a practice game he kicked 5 goals while Franklin only kicked 1. His a quality player, I hope Mark Williams gets dropped for the shocking game he played against Bulldogs. He couldnt make the distance 30 metres out. People say that we cant win a premiership with Boyle in the team, did you guys forget wen he mad us beat collingwood last year.

Boyle has gotten the available for selection on the hawksfc injury list, for the record I watched with my own eyes Williams kick a set-shot goal from outside 50 nearly clearing the fence against Melbourne.

Yeah I noticed that, Williams scored the last 3 goals to get us over the line against Melbourne and "Yes" I witnessed him kicking a goal from 50. But I also notice him miss 2 goals last weekend.
1. Which he missed 30 metres out in the first 3 minutes of the game
2. In the last quarter when we needed him to stand up he couldnt even make the distance from 30 metres out and register a behind.
3. He was lazy and he didnt even try the whole game.
Now seriously if your profession is to be a professional footballer and you can't Kick 30 metres which is your bread and butter then he doesnt deserve to be in the team. Boyle should be given a chance!

Agree with both of these statements. I cannot believe that people are willing to trade him. Boyle has proven himself and while I have never seen Dowler/Thorp play and cannot therefore comment on there inclusion, I would rather have the experience of Boyle ahead of anyone else.

IMO at this point in time I would have Boyle in ahead of Willo

Boyle should be given a go but who says Williams should be dropped, he can always be given a run in the midfield, Ablett began his career as a forward pocket player.

Are you saying Williams is in the same calibre as Ablett. Come on mate, when Albett was playing forward he was a gem. He does the following which Williams does not do:
1. Apply consistent pressure in the forward line. When was the last time you saw Williams run down a player. He is very lazy!
2. Create a contest, crum and then scores. I barely remember Williams scoring a crumming goal.
3. Albett is in the same calibre as Franklin, both match winners. Both players can raise the momentum of the team, both can win you games.

Ok Williams did step up against Melbourne, in the last quarter. But if you remember the game the 1 half he wasnt even sighted. Good players can not go quite the whole game. I'm not saying his not a good player, we all know wat Williams could do, his done some remarkable things in 2006. I think his form is sliding down the hill and he probably needs a run in the 2s. One thing Hawthorn has is alot of forwards, so maybe we should bring in Boyle or Stokes, Thorpe,Dowler. Creating a competition in the team, is good for the team. That would make the players play consistently!:thumbsu:

I love it how people say we should by relying on players who have not played 1 game of AFL ahead of players who have actually stepped up and played there and played well at times.

There is a trend on here to build up our Box Hill players with no evidence of their AFL credentials.

Doesn't matter if Boyle is a depth player that is fine by me, we don't want to be a St. Kilda. I just hope we can keep quality on our list and have them happy to play at Box Hill week in week out. Really need to fix that team if we wanna keep depth here.

Hahaha exactly, it even happened late last year. "Lets bring Thorp in for Boyle, lets bring in Dowler".

If Boyle is fit, he will most likely play in the magoos this week and he should be back in. He had played at the start of the year, personally I worry about being too top heavey with all three big targets I wouldnt mind seeing Campbell and Taylor drifting forward more often instead.

Yeah I would love Campbell to go there more often. We don't need to include a third tall especially when we have the double ruck combo.

What happens when Roughy or Franklin get injured? Boyle will play. Also what happened to the rumours Buddy wasn't a deep forward in our plans and he was meant to roam the ground from a wing or loose HF?
