View Full Version : Rabbit-Proof Fence
Anyone seen this?
What do you think about it? I liked it but it was all a bit sudden with the ending.
Do you think it should be a film that ALL Australians should watch?
Good film if you want to get an idea of how bad things were with the aborigines in the 1930's. Fairly impressive distance covered also for the young girls, quite amazing really.
One of those films you'd only really watch to get an insight into a country's history.

Or not.
Thats exactly what you shouldn't do. Instead you should read up on what is and isn't true in the film. A good starting point here (http://members.optushome.com.au/jimball/Rabbitproofmyth.html).

Should be renamed 'Truth proof fence'
the whole stolen generations issue is a vexing one. Some believe it, others don't. No doubt the film has been sensationalised to get more bums on seats. This is often the case when it comes to films "based on a true story" it is an interesting term that. Gives the director liscense to do as he pleases really. Whether you believe in the story of the stolen generations or not, aborigines have been historically treated like crap in this country. Maybe this film isn't accurate but it at least makes you think about it and maybe even find out more information. That in itself is an achievement in my books.
