View Full Version : Media vendetta against the Hawthorn Football Club

It's getting to the point where it's actually becoming intolerable.

If it's not one person accusing us of deliberately hurting our opponents in one paper, it's other 'journalists' who write libellious, unfounded articles in another.

At what point does the club say enough is enough and just put an end to it?

Why don't we just close up shop and prevent the media from gaining access to us completely for the next few months and see how they like it?

As TWITA said brilliantly in another thread,

What's the problem Damien? You'll boycott the club and not write horseshit articles like this about us? Empty threat - you wont be able to go a week without writing about Buddy. Face it, you are all media tart groupies.

It is starting to get ridiculous, we have had our fair share of negative reports over the last couple of weeks.

And if it continues i would hope the hawks management instruct anyone within the club, players, coaching staff, to refuse to give interviews with these papers and TV networks.

I'm starting to get a feeling for what the Freo supporters have to put up with in Perth.

I love Clarko.
But if he is going to continuously scream profanity at journo's, then it is only going to get worse. Yes, it's good to defend your players & club, but the incident down in Tassie was inexcusable. It was rude, aggressive and completely out of line. Will probably end up damaging relations down there with the media.
I'm glad the club has come down on him and told him to pull his head in.
If he doesn't stop this bullshit, Hawthorn will have very bad relations with the media. And that is something we cannot afford these days.

some common sense around here wouldnt go astray.

If you abuse journos what do you expect them to do?

Just as if you keep getting suspended then you dont get much sympathy at the tribunal.

It is all about how the HFC cope with all the attention.

They should take it on the chin and play like they did weeks ago. Hard attacking footy.

We are just the flavour of the month...next week they will pick on another club...

The important thing is for the club to close ranks and focus on playing good hard footy and then the hacks can go piss into the wind.

No they wont. They just love to kick u, no matter where we are.

In 2001 they were kicking us, 2004-2006 they were kicking us while we were down, with constant beat-up articles how "player-x" is a nasty player etc...

2007 they were average, not nice or mean. This year, once again, using us to sell tabloid news.

As TWITA said brilliantly in another thread,

I've been an advocate of this for several years. I'm far from pleased with the way the football media conducts itself, and it's time the clubs told them to smarten themselves up or they won't be contributing any further to their crap.

There is a line of thought that footy needs the media. It does not. The game promotes itself, and hundreds of idiots in the media would be looking for a job elsewhere.

Come on Hawthorn, start the ball rolling and impose a ban on the media, at least starting with "unfriendlies" such as Mike Sheehan and Damian Barrett.

as much as l,d like for the media to leave us alone, it cant happen how would we know any thing about our footyball club if we dont read about it..
no club interviews on players before and after games it just cant happen.

not all of us have contacts with the footy club so we cant know how players are or traveling or injurys or when a player is out of contract things like this is why i think we need the media...

Phil I know for a fact that the HFC have pretty much done this anyway.
Maybe thats why they happily have us in the gun. It doesnt excuse poor journalism, but if I was a journo and the HFC continually refused reasonable requests then I would probably not hold back when a negative opportunity arose.

Ok, can't help myself on this one.

Long time caller, first time listener and all that.

I've had a gutful of there being two footy media worlds. From Friday to early Monday morning these guys have to report about the games, the players, the coaches and the tactics. As soon as that's over and done with they can get on with the muck raking that allegedly "is in the public interest". It's interesting that these guys are the ones that decide what's in my interest.

Why don't they report on the visits by players to schools and hospitals and charities and kindergartens etc.? I guess the reporters have decided that it's "not in my interest". Tomorrow's headline you won't see..."Lance Franklin caught leaving Children's Hospital (again)".

Well, I've had it with the intolerable bile these guys produce "in the public interest" and there's only one way to stop it - supporters and members of the footy loving public need to boycott the advertisers of the publications that offend you the most until the standards of reporting improve. While you're at it, email the editors of the newspapers and tell them why it's happening. He / she will wet themselves.

I'm Gary7Ayres and I'm out!!!

And your saying W/C didn't deserve it.Come on.
What other things has the media got into you blokes about that you didn't deserve.Clarko abuses another journalist and going by what I have read he didn't deserve it.
I love the way you blokes play but when you have players getting rubbed out for stuppid things it doesn't help when the coach is not setting a good example.

Its interesting as I sent an email to "On the Couch" to protest about the personal attack by walls and sheehan on teh hawks and especially Hodge and Mitchell and their so-called unsociable play and intentional attack on players to hurt them - such as Mitchell apparently raising his leg to cork someone in the Melbourne game - the replay I got

" would be more than happy for you to let me know when players from other teams play "unsociable" football and we'll bring it to the attention of the guys on the panel"

So that basically says enough to me - they couldn't care less about there negative sentiments against the hawks, I haven't heard either Walls or Sheehan make positive comments about the Hawks. I don't watch the show to listen to discussion about football I only watch it now to hear their negative comments which fires me up and I would love to see the Hawks win the GF just to shove it up them!

We're the form team of the competition, the media are always going to scrutinise a top side far more heavily then a bottom one.

This stuff has so much more affect on supporters and outsiders then it does the club including the players and coaches.
