Why do we keep going on about this, leave Kyneton alone. I am not a supporter but am thoroughly over the talk of where they are at.
I assure you everyone is well aware of where they are at and many clubs have bottomed out before. Things will turn for the club if they keep working hard.
Remember when poor old Eaglehawk were struggling for a crowd and being belted each week. Tides turn eventually, Kangaroo flat appear to have turned the corner after a long time at the bottom. Why waste our time talking through an issue that keeps being raised every few weeks.
Can anyone give us some further details on the square player / players suspended from the club.
Rumours persist that some activity has occured , out on the town, and that the club is not happy with them????
Seems Fresh FM will run with the story on Saturday morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Said I wouldnt bag Kyneton and I wont.......but let me offer them some sound advise. Kyneton problems are in there jnr system. The club needs to develop a feeder junior system where they take the best from that Micky Mouse KDJFL and start there own jnr club in the RDJFL, give the kids the best coaching available, teach them the clubs culture and get them to die for the yellow and black. Look at Gisbornes model, it works, 9 grandfinals in 11 yrs is pretty good, the system works. Anyone who is deeply involved in the Bulldogs knows that the majority of the team are Gisborne Rookie juniors, even the coach, Matty Fitz or if they r not Rookie Players they are the probucts of other RDJFL clubs. It will take some work, some years of pain, but in time a strong flow of young Tigers will come through. Home grown, proud and cheap to put on the field.

Just a point about this. Gisborne has been populated in recent years by workers coming out from Melbourne for house and land, hence they will have a lot of juniors coming through for the next 10 years minimum.
Kyneton always have strong Under 18's but struggle to hold onto players based on work situation. I think the club has to put ALOT of effort into retaining these blokes initially and they may have to look at getting a coach or playing coach or can generate excitement and drag a few players into the club. I am not having a crack at Cook but am looking at this longer term and he will be backed by locals saying he is doing a great job. Just dont have the cattle.
There has been no real big signings in the last couple of years and this is what usually generates interest.
From the outside it looks to be a vicious cycle but one that can be broken within a couple of years. Need everyone to stick together and put a plan in place. Get the community involved as the footy club needs everyone on board to help where required. Easier said than done but will have to happen soon or Kyneton will move out of BFL as they wont have players willing to play or supporters willing to watch.

wombat --- think our mate zakksta in post #101 was replying to twenty-nine/little champ re the kyneton position
most would have read it as an explanation of the tiges' current situation, not bagging the yellow and blacks
how will willo williams go if he has a gallop with mate warfie at the flat b4 this years finals

My response was targeted more at the little champ, who I feel was bringing up an issue that we have flogged to death. I didn't say, "dont bag Kyneton", I was just trying to put the point across that they know where they are at and why do we keep bringing it up.
There actually is no point bagging a side when they are down, all the same.
Good luck to the boys from Kyneton and if they can maintain their heart and soul, Chambers, Dryden and blokes like Jock Allan the club will turn.

doc kenny .... been to c ur boys or south boys playing at the q recently ??
ben. weekly published a pic of the sunday hurst match in its sprts pages the other friday --- hartney family sitting on scrboard side and along with 2, maybe 3 cars and one other family u cood have shot a cannon down there and not hit anybody
same with south .... one bloke out at the flat sed the other day --- "why r they playing sunday. Do they think they'll get another 10 people there. Make that get another 5 to turn up".
the city clubs r dying dr. kenny n. whethr u acknowledge it or not:thumbsd:
I don't deny that we are more vulnerable than other clubs. I've never claimed otherwise - all I have said is that a merger with S'saye has not and will not ever be an option because they have ALWAYS wanted to go it alone... So stop the talk about it because it's done and dusted. Move on.
:) So dig the boots in if you like about our lack of crowds and money, us Dragons are used to it mate.
But be assured FQ - that we are not sitting back, pointing to our history and our 26 premierships and thinking that will get us by.

Was just a refferene to all those clubs that are strugling knob. what i was getting at was the fact that there are so many football clubs in and around bendigo that cant find enough players to field competitive sides, look at sandhurst they were strugling for numbers in the 2's early in the year, by bringing in a whole new club that will requires a whole new list of players..... players that all these struggling clubs can't find???its going to put even more pressure on those who are already strugling.... (You'd find that most huntly boys come from bendigo too, so bit of homework from your end wouldn't hurt either) . and just for the record one of those players you have on your list from bendigo is as soft as buter walks and talks like his Jono Brown plays like 8 year old school girl........... pea heart. Kangaroo Flat to beat South Bendigo this weekend. Luckily for South they only have 2 supporters, and both of them are water boys.....
Gisborne to beat E/H in the mud...that ground is a disgrace!
Square to smash Kyneton. Kyneton could field their seniors, reserves and U18's in a massive flood and still lose vs Square seniors.
Maryborough and Sandhurst to play out a nil-all draw.
Strathfieldsaye and Castlemaine have the bye.

You have got to be kidding, its a bog, at both ends and across both wings. Apart from that, its a sensational ground- NOT. Cricket-pitch is fantastic, only area that isn't boggy, and even that has the black plastic coming through, with a 1cm cover of sand.

Happened last year as well with the Borough being flogged at Gisborne. Gisborne have to come to Bendigo to play finals so Id still have Eaglehawk favourite from Square and Gisborne at this stage.
Any notable players out from either team for this game as late outs?
I saw the selected sides from Friday, was there any changes?

The way Kyneton played the second half was absolutely disgraceful on the weekend, I am unsure who was coaching them in Cook's absense but it was disgusting. For those of you fortunate enough to be at another match, Kyneton basically played with a CHF and everyone else flooded. Now I have no coaching credentials but you'd think the Kyneton players, especially the younger ones would benefit more in the long run playing one on one football than the rubbish the coach made them play.

Well disgraceful effort by Bill Young then.
It's a fine line norfolk, if you have a young side is it really in it's best interests to get pumped by 35goals going "one on one" as you put it and be totally humiliated. Does that do the youngsters in the team any good? I would much rather as a coach drop a few back to lessen the damage that just throw the kids to the wolves. I know they still got thumped but when you haven't got the cattle your hands are tied.

Can see your point Maxy and everyone to there own but having really only one forward for the whole second half isn't gonna help them at all. They ended up getting pumped by 25 goals so its not as though they weren't humiliated anyway. The way i see it is you can get pumped by 25 goals and have your kids learn nothing or you can get pumped by an extra 10-15 goals and have them learn a bit more. Tell them to back themselves, explain to them they aren't expected to win every contest but get them to take risks. In some ways similar to how Matty Knights have got his youngsters to back themselves this year and still attack even though early on in the season they were being taught a football lesson, which it looks like they have learnt a bit from...
There are arguments for both sides really mate, I probably lean this way because i had to watch the game.
Edit: I just noticed that square had more scoring shots in the second half and Kyneton had less. So it seems they were more effective playing positively in the first half.

I am a tiger man and was not at the game on saturday but did hear there were plenty of players behind the ball. norfolk in the last 4 games against the top four sides we have been beaten and flogged trying to play man on man. Maybe last week the coach Bill young said enough is a enough and tried to get players to go back and get easy kick to try and have a little bit of confiedence. Because we have had very little of the ball in the last couple i have watched especailly against Gisborne.
I also heard from players that Golden square were very frustrated by it and gave away plenty of silly frees and 50s. maybe against a weak side like Kyneton you could have used it like as if a top sides was trying to stop you if you had a bit of a roll on in a final i would say.
I agree it is no good for the league but you can only do what you can with the cattle you have got. ie you cant turn pig shit into strawberry jam.
Our under 18 s were again in a winning position and lost there could be at least 6 of them get a game in the seniors but they are not going to learn much at the moment so hopefully they can win a few and make the finals then come up help strength the seniors.

I am not convinced that Billy Young is entirely to blame. I had a conversation with a Kyneton person on the thursday before the game and was told that Cookey would not be coaching against Golden Square. I was also informed that the Tigers had picked a two man forward line for the game. It seems to me that the 2's coach was acting on instructions. It is disappointing if this is indeed what occurred because I am sure that flights could have been organised with this much notice.

I heard Kyneton started the flood from the opening bounce, that Square had up to 6 blokes standing free across half-back and not a Kyneton player forward of the centre! Surely Kyneton can't be as bad as that?! 18 against 12 in half of the ground and the 12 still win by 25 goals?!!! WTF?!
And surely, given that the Square were up by 10 goals at half-time, you would think that then is not the time to start/continue flooding. Surely they had to go out and try something different?! It's not like Kyneton would be worried about percentage!!!
Just wondering everyones thoughts on the big game this week between eaglehawk and south? Who will bounce back from their loss last week?

By my reckoning the Flat need to make up something like 60 goals worth of percentage!!! Wont happen, in fact I think that Kyneton will be competitive (more than they have been anyway.) I also reckon that by the end of the next month Kyneton will be off the bottom of the ladder. They are starting to pick the side on form, giving reserves blokes a game who have a crack (Horseburgh, McQualter, Henderson etc.)

Poor attitude once again by the Gisborne FC. The kid (yes he is just a kid!) should have been given time to delevop into a more mature person and footballer. Another gun bites the dust down at Gardiner Reserve, aka the black hole for junior development.
You would think the Bulldogs would be keen on keeping all their talented youngsters, not there are many down there. Most see the light when they get towards their late teens and go play in the RDFL U18s competiton, where they get looked after and properly developed!

I know of many boys that wont play under Simpson, and thats where it starts. Perhaps that is why his group is struggling and the future looks bleak ?

Went and chased coin last year at Moama and this year playing at Airport West.
"The kid" is 21 and has decided not to play this year.

It's good to see Gisborne's Under 18 side going great guns without all that poached RDFL talent :eek::eek:

Perhaps that is why his group is struggling and the future looks bleak ?This years group of under 18's have had little success since they started together as 8-9 year olds, winning only a handful of games in that whole time.
Steve Simpson coached the under 18 side to a flag in 2000.

Get on Big Footy they said.
It is a hotbed of information they said.
Keep your finger on the pulse they said.
See what teams are up too they said.
They obviously werent talking about the Bendigo League board were they. It is a very open race for the flag with no standout favorite and all of the top teams capable of taking the points off each other on any given day, but still nobody from Bendigo seems interested in the slightest. If it was not for the Gisborne posters there would not have been a post on here for weeks. Can anyone tell me what is going on here.
For what its worth I think that the Tigers can be off the bottom of the ladder after the bye in the last game.

Fair call Darryl, very quiet around. Square seem to be decimated by injury and have 5 thirds kids playing in the reserves this week.

When we lost the Talking Goat this thread has been on a terrible slide. It is dead now. I spoke with the Goat at the Gis V E/Hawk game and he told me he would post his flag tip after last weekends game. So goat if your out there???
I agree that this is the best year in the Bendigo for many years. The top 4 teams all can win it and Mary will trouble who ever finishes 4th. The are quietly praying for South Bendigo.

was at the sandhurst vs gisborne game last week with about 25 other spectators wonder what the atmosphere was like there today with the two co hosts playing. (maybe the $10 is too much to watch the slags just go through the motions)

What is the go with paying $10 entry fee anyway if it was $5 or somewhere around that mark people would be more inclined to watch our local footy.
What is the entry fee to HDFL or LVFL anyone??

HDFL $8.
Atmosphere at HDFL games is ten times greater than the BFL. They seem to be able to attract more people to games and the people seem more passionate about the footy.
entry costs mite be lowr at h'cote league boys but footy is often v. ordinary
maryboro took it up to square & got back to one kick behind in 3rd quartr that was the game of the round in bfl sat.

LVFL is $7 and usually free for pensioners!
As someone said the atmosphere is much greater in HDFL, but also in LVFL.
But this is because those leagues are community based and supporters
in that area gernally all follow the local club.
Bendigo isn't like that at all, as it's spread all over the place.
Bendigo is a much better standard with no support base.

The top 3-4 HDFL teams would walk all over the likes off Kyneton and a Sandhurst and go close to matching a castlemaine or a flat or m/borough.

Maryborough would have to be happy with playing finals. A lot of uncertainty about the coach early however he has proven a real asset. Hope they go well in the finals.
any predictions for the league medal? any dark horses? does anyone have a predictions for the 2 grand finalists and eventual premier? coming to the business end of the season it would be interesting to get everyone's thoughts before they unfold....

Perhaps Barham for medal? My tip for the playoff is south bendigo and eaglehawk, Gisborne is still a powerhouse but a lot of sides have evened up with them this year, but there is still the graveyard curse

This is unlikely, but I would like to see a South v Square granny... the melee last year was brilliant :)
I'd say South v Eaglehawk or Gisborne. South will lose down at Gardiner Res this week, but so does eveyone else so I'd still have them as slight favourites come September.

hey guys. don't really follow the bendigo league much, but being from maryborough, i'm wondering who ya think will take 5th spot? I went and watched Burra on the weekend and they have some good local talent coming thru the ranks which is fantastic for them. they pushed square fairly well i thought, a bit unlucky at times but that happens. if they made it do you think they could upset the 4th placed side??

Kynetons big chance to pull off a win, but wait, no Cameron Tate and my mail says no Darren Chambers. Last time we played the Dragons Cookies missus decided to give birth. Cannot take a trick the Tigers.
Has Dan Frew played much footy this year
Bit of a shame MAryborough couldn't pull an 18's side together.. Would be a bit of talent coming through i reckon. Fisher seems to be doing a great job 2 years Big Grand Final contenders i reckon

If they win the flag I think he will be there again. Ty Elliott would be a huge chance if he did move on. They are happy with what he has done with the 2's.
Great game in very tough conditions at Gis on the weekend. South are a real chance with the finals at the QEO.

Very - if the supposed exodus that is planned at years end happened then Power might be a chance. He would have 10 players that would follow him to the club. Ty would be the front runner however.
