Probably better known as HARRY, the Big H has impressed ever since he was elevated from the Rookie list in 2005. (Yes, pick yourself up off the floor, he was a rookie). He went on to play 4 games straight near the end of 2005, before being elevated permenantly for 2006.
2006 was a good year for the Big H, without being a standout year. He played from round 2-7, but was dropped after a quiet game. He managed 3 more senior appearances for the year in what was should be considered a fairly impressive 1st year from a rookie.
Boy o Boy, we had seen nothing yet.
2007 was the Year of the H. With our beloved Jimmy Clement missing for much of the year, we really needed someone to step in and fill the void.
Lucky we had the Big Brazilian waiting in the wings. Harry played from the opening bounce of the season, instantly looking like he had gathered years of footballing maturity in the off-season. He was a vital cog in our 7W-3L start to the season.
You can imagine the feeling then when he went to ground in the opening quater of the Queen's Birthday match. Whisked off the ground, with only one disposal to his name. The air was sucked out of the 'G. We were all fearing the worst. As we waited to hear the injury prognosis, I gained just a bit more respect for the young man. Thinking about what the rest of the year would be like without Jimmy or Harry in the side really made me appreciate his value.
Lucky for us Harry returned to the side miraculously after missing only 2 matches with a dislocated shoulder. He played out the season (including all the finals), and hasn't looked like leaving the side since.
I don't think it's a coincidence that Collingwood hit their straps this year at around the same time that Harry really started firing, after having a midly quiet start to the season.
When he was drafted as a rookie, this (http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=146826&highlight=Harry+O%27Brien) thread popped up. It basically says that his desicion making, skills, and disposal effeciency are so bad that no one should draft him as "It's not something you can coach into a player".
Well, Harry's disposal efficiency has been a whopping 89% this year, and if you ask me, he never makes a bad choice on the field.
Keep up the fantastic work H!
We all know we would be stuffed without you! :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:
