View Full Version : Expansion Is Blight A Chance
to coach the Gold Coast team.
During the WC V Coll telecast it seemed Michael Christian was trying to get Blight to say something.

Don't think Blighty would want to go back to coaching, but he may be a consultant or something.

I think Blighty enjoys a relatively stress free existence right now.

Michael Voss is a lock.
They've already appointed him to help build their list.
You think they're going to turn around and say, "no, actually, we're going to take Blight, even though he hasn't coached for 10 years"?
Come on - let's be serious.

A joke right? There's no doubt Blight could play and coach, but based on his commentary efforts over the past few years, he looks to be in the early stages of dementia. He's out of touch with the modern game and proberly out of touch with generation Y.
GC will chase a young coach with a high profile like Voss.

Blight cant stop gabbering on about the good old days.
Coaching days have well and truly passed him by. His commentary days are numbered, too. Totally out of touch. At least he isnt biased, its about the best thing I can say about his commentary.

No, Bucks is coming back to the Lexus when MM gets sacked
I hope it's Voss.
I have serious reservations about his coaching potential which makes him an ideal candidate for an opposition team.

I would never hire a coach who cannot pronounce "especially".
There is no X in that word, Vossy!!

Thats why most of us can wait for Buckley to coach the pies.

Haha, I think Buckley will be even more rubbish than Voss. I see Voss as having a great deal more potential at least. They both could go on to beaing good coaches I guess, if given support and time.

Obviously Colligwood supporters will disagree with you but I believe most neutral punters would too.

Yet people with actual experience in running football clubs, with their money and reputation on the line have ear-marked Voss.
Funny that.

I was talking generally, not about the GC job in particular. And I was talking about neutral supporters - you're about as neutral as I am!!!
Obviously for the GC gig there are other factors, like marketing etc. They need the bigggest name in Qld football that they can find - not neccessarilly the best coach. And that name is Voss. They can chuck him out down the track if he turns out to be a dud. But his role will equally to promote the game as much as coach the team.
He exspecially will need to brush up on his elocution for those press conferences.

Well what a shock that Voss would be favourite to coach a new team in QUEENSLAND:rolleyes:
Impossible for anybody to know who would be the better coach out of Voss and Buckley as neither of them has any experience.
As for the chances of Blight coaching the GC team, i had to laugh. He was past it when he took on the Saints gig, even further past it now, and someone mentioned earlier it seems like he is in the early stages of dementia

That might be 10 years into the future, I highly doubt Bucks will play all of his cards on the one team.

How long has it been since Voss coached??? Exactly!
FWIW, I think Voss will get the job, and frankly, as an opposition fan, I'm glad. (No having a go at him, loved him as a football, but seriously going to go from no coaching experience to AFL? The AFL/GC17 aren't going to be too pleased if they have anything but immediate success, he's won't have long to find his feet)

Gotta agree with that, hes one very laid back guy, youd swear he smokes the weed!
Voss will be coach...but he can have Blight and Sheedy as advisors. I mean even Barassi when he took over North had Norm Smith and Bill Stephen help him out!
Blight's a finisher, not a builder.
and that doesn't take account of the fact that he just doesn't seem to care about too much these days

This is a fair point.
But you can't ignore the 'afl appointment' of leigh matthews at the BL. So, if a similar appointment is on the cards an untried coach may be unlikely.

Young coaches are popular at the moment.
You've been living in a cave if you're unaware of that recent shift.
