Do you guys reckon he'll get another contract?

What he says in the article goes against what happened to Jason Torney I'd have thought

http://news.realfooty.com.au/sport/edwards-eyes-extending-career-with-crows-20080604-2lr2.html

Adelaide veteran Tyson Edwards is bullish about his prospects of extending his AFL career beyond 2008, despite the Crows' trend towards jettisoning a handful of elders each year.

Almost 32, Edwards is the second oldest player on Adelaide's list, born two days after Andrew McLeod in August 1976.

Over the past decade or so he has earned a reputation as one of the league's most courageous, skilful and underrated players, consistently winning plenty of the ball and using it with aplomb.

However Edwards has shown less frequent glimpses of that quality in 2008, unable to adapt with quite the same ease to the more peripheral roles handed to him, McLeod and Simon Goodwin.

After Ben Hart and Matthew Clarke in 2006 and Mark Ricciuto, Jason Torney and Ian Perrie last year, Edwards would appear next as the Crows continue their unsentimental drive to re-populate one of the league's oldest playing rosters.

Crows coach Neil Craig has indicated that he will wait until later in the year before making any decisions on the likes of Edwards, Brett Burton, Goodwin, McLeod and injured ruckman Rhett Biglands.

Edwards backed himself to show he deserved a run for the club in 2009.

"Absolutely, I haven't put a date or a year on when I finish up, if I'm still enjoying it and playing good footy that's the main thing, I'll put my hand up to go again," he said.

"I'm just enjoying the game, that's how you start, I still love playing well and winning, when you get older you get the chance to help younger guys too, so I'm still enjoying it."

Edwards said he was aware of the club's harsh approach once players passed the age of 30 but felt it was not necessary as a motivating force.

"I can't do much about it anyway. That's fine, we understand the club's view and if you're playing good footy there won't be a problem," he said.

"I don't really need that (motivation) to keep playing good footy, at that age everyone wants to play good footy all the time so you don't necessarily need that, but if you keep playing good footy the odds are in your favour."

It's a bit of a nothing article really. He knows Club's position. He knows that to get a contract he needs to be playing better than he currently is. Many in here think he's a likely candidate for delisting at year end, but because of his standing in the club, he will be given every opportunity to show he has what it takes to continue. It's all up to him really.

If I doesn't get another contract with the Crows, I would hate to see a great Crows player like him finish his career with a different club if he thinks he doesn't want to retire yet

I thought Jason Torney had a pretty good year last year. Probably better that Edwards is having so far this year.
Will be very interesting.

I'd say at worst, they'll keep him on a lower contract, as an off the bench-player.

As I've said before, we all love the young kids, but we still need experienced players to guide them.

Yes, I would give him another year. IMO still easily in the best 18 let alone the best 22. We don't have the depth to have another cull of over 30 year olds at the end of this year. Biglands and Bassett are enough.

No other club would take him.

we do not have enuf experience in our midfield or basset to delist them yet. they need to be ther for another year while players like knights vb vince porp mckay and hopefully danger and ottens to give them that extra year experience. i would love to see tyson used of the bench in 5-10 minute bursts thru the midfield next year ala damian hardwick in his last year at port. he is the type of hard nut in and under player that would be brilliant at this

I think its great Tyson still has the passion to go on another year. Its what we want to hear. And there is no way Tyson would end up at another club at his age. I must admit I think he may get the tap on the shoulder at the end of the year regardless of his performances from here on in.

I dont think he'd want to go to another club but to bring up his 300th game it would be tempting.

Edwards has been consistent and reliable throughout most of his career. But because the system makes a club delist players, then he, like everyone else, will be under the microscope.

Susceptiblity to injury, fitness, discipline, and lack of form are all reasons why a player would himself delisted.

Edwards has not had a history of injury, but nor did Ben Hart until his final 2 years. Age catches up with the best players.

Edwards seems to have maintained his fitness, but the club would know if he has dropped off or more importantly where he ranks compared to all other players. Does any one have any idea how he compares?

Edwards has had some minor personal issues with other players at the club, but probably no more than anyone else.

I have questioned his form so far this season, as I thought he seemed to be coasting in some games. So I was surprised to find that he is ranked 4th for disposal and 2nd for tackles for Adelaide. But all of this will count for nothing if Adelaide start losing games and/or his form drops.

As always he will let his footy do the talking, 1 bad game in 5 years isn't enough to make me jump all over him unlike all the rest.
