I read with interest every post on our board.
A lot of them are concerning who is in or out for the week.
A lot are about whether Tivvers' or Joel should be in or out.
A lot are about Collins, Connors, JON etc.
The facts are obvious that the same players coming in and going out are not a short term fix. T.W. has indicated that our list is developing but what do you think about this. How are we developing?
Do our young players need game time?

Just the timing i think. Connors and JON are starting to push for selection but have had their own injury concerns.

I think a definate mistake was made bring Hyde in at any point in the game as opposed to keeping someone like Hughes in the side.

We need Hughes, JON, Connors, McGuane, Riewoldt having games and i think seeing the back of players that we dont feel are going to be there in 2011 unless they are important to the side eg: Richo, Bowden (I reckon he deserves his spot)

So Hyde, Tivendale shouldn't play again

The ultimate aim is to win a Grand Final obviously.
We are not going to win this years Grand Final.
WRONG.... I want to win this year's Grand Final.
Isn't that the point. I'd put more faith in youth when the older players don't cut it. Coming an honourable 10th doesn't cut it.
If we are not going to win why waste time on players that have no future. I will sign up next year again and TW knows he has a job next year so bring on the young and brave!

What is the point of keeping Jack in just because he is young? If he's not performing then he's not performing that is why i was quite happy to see him out this week. Also Cleve Hughes..... why would we want him in if he can't kick a bag in VFL he will not kick a goal in AFL. Its just common sence we can't just keep hoping for good efforts we've got to put the right players in that can get us the 4 points. We need to do a job on Adelaide this Saturday and i think we have the side to do it we will definetly miss Johnson but Tivendale will do his job.

callan ward (pick 19 for macmahon) has been selected for his first game. interestingly might play as a small defender.

Chris Hyde has been given an opportunity to prove him self as a Stopper, which you could say he has failed... So what to do with him now???? well I think it's over for him... he will need to improve big time to keep his spot on the list from now til the end of the year. I thought he was safe for a couple of more weeks due to Johnson getting injured, but getting dropped must surely mean he is on a fine edge.

Jackson and now Hyde are have failed. So who do we have coming upto take this role?

The thing is they have the fitness that the 21 yer old and younger players dont have yet. Connors, Casserly and co. dont seem to have the motor.

Johnson performed this role last season whilst carrying an injury.

We look like we are short a couple of quality stoppers.

Tivendale has earned his spot. If he can play well enough he may keep it for the rest of the season... wether he keeps for next season, is a completely different question. He does add depth and experience which is hard to put a value on, especially with such a young list.

WE dont know how to develope!
Simple question.
What would Leigh Mathews or Mick Malthouse do.
Bring a kid in or Tivendale?
THe younger kids will continue to loose interest like the supporters r when we can clearly see that senior players are not up to AFL & they continue let us down
Sorry Wallet but the knockers have always said that you are no good with young talent and i agree with them!

Another era of wasting opportunities, another bunch of young talent wasted , but hey Tivendale , Bowden were playing well in the two's and Pettifer and McMahon are our future , what a load of sh!t. Get some balls coaching staff !!!

Couldn't agree more. The clubs which make the most rapid improvement are the ones which play the young talent and put faith in them. I would rather finish 14th and see kids develop than finish 9th and watch fringe players. Terry has got a job for next year and we wont make the finals. Play the kids!

Wallace is making players earn their spot in the side, its the way to go IMO. For too long have we just gifted players games because no one was there to take their place.

Thats not the point at all, wanting but then realising that we arent within coooeeeee of a GF this year is what will help us develop quicker.

we have ZERO, ZILCH NADA chance of winning it this year, so develop the young guys so we can push up the ladder next year and beyond.

Its simply wasting time playing old guys who have shown for over 5 years they dont have what it takes to mix it with the best

couldnt agree more with the underlined part of ur post

agreed, 3-4 weeks is enough of a honeymoon period for a youngster, after that it's earn your stripes, no concessions for anyone

I was trying to make some comparisons to Brisbane and Sydney and see if there are any parallels to Richmonds development.

Both of these teams have great recent success and then went into a rebuilding stage.

Why is it that the lions and swans rebuilding stage was so short and they are both having great success and the tigers are always left floundering?

Admittedly, the swans haven't missed a beat but Brisbane had a couple of average seasons before bouncing back this year.

We seem to have a great group of young players who show severe promise and the future looks rosy. This has been a constant pattern for twenty odd years now and we still don't seem to get any stronger - any more potent.

The lions and swans bleed new players into their team with thier stronger nucleus and it looks almost seamless. Is this a recruiting problem or a cultural one?

I think we have some great players on our list and the bones are there but when will we take the next step and who will lead this charge?

I hope I'm wrong when I say that we'll manage a couple of seasons of position nine then the rotation will start again and more rebuilding will be required. I hope I'm wrong and the stars of the RFC will step up - carry the rookies with them and show them that we can have a winning culture at our proud club.

Every player on our list be it Angus Graham or Richo should have to earn their spot in the 22, if we just gift games to players because their birthdate is post 1988 then we're sending the wrong message, i.e. if you're young and have talent you'll get a game.

On the other hand taking the path we are taking, which is earn your spot and you'll get a game, we are actually seeing players who were written off as no chance of being footballers actually prove a few people wrong and are starting to become good players. Guys like Schulz, Moore, McGuane & White are starting to win a few people over with their performances each week and although they are not big names they are going to be an integeral part of the future. It is these players that we'll be able to put out on the park each week and know that they can do a job for us with a minimum of fuss.

Are also the clubs that have the state of the art development facilities. ie look at the pies development of youngsters.. oh I hate them and their money. Bulldogs just spent few mil on facilities. c'mon tigs push the AFL and the council to upgrade punt rd..... PLEASE!!!!
