View Full Version : TV How I Met Your Mother
Is there a better comedy on TV at the moment? I can't think of one.
Even with Britney Spears on it, it still doesn't suck!
Neil Patrick Harris is the only decent one in the show.
Free To Air - Flight Of The Concords FTW.:thumbsu:
And on Foxtel - Robot Chicken and Harvey Birdman FTW.:thumbsu:

She did though. Pretty obvious she was shoehorned into that role.
One thing I like about this show is that they'll leave something hanging, like the girl who's sabotaging Barney and come back to it later. Personally I think it's Lily.

I'm with you Jaymin, its the best comedy on free to air TV(don't have fox) at the moment.
Whilst its not the funniest show ever made its still a very solid show with plenty of laughs, the majority provided by Barney.

Barney makes the show, but all the characters seem to come together nicely. Marshall is usually very funny, too.
It's one of my favourite shows.

Great show, one of my favourites, have seen the first 3 seasons and very happy to hear that it has been renewed for a 4th.
NPH may get the best lines and most of the glory, but the cast as a whole works very well together :thumbsu:
i have tried to like it but can't

And unfunny.
It tries hard but just doesn't measure up to modern classics like Two & a half men.
formulaic sitcom fair. Just seems like another version of Friends to me. Has a decent cast and they put in good performances from what I have seen. But I don't watch it much as it just seems like any other American sitcom to me.
One thing I like about this show is that they'll leave something hanging,
Any bets 3 years from now, in the show's fifth season or whatever it will be, Barney pulls out that huge, final slap on Marshall that he still owes him.
And unfunny.
It tries hard but just doesn't measure up to modern classics like Two & a half men.
Oh dear god.

Two & a half men lol, what utter crap.
HIMYM is one of the sharper comedies in years, definitly one of the most consistent for laughs.
The thing i dont like is how it shows how pathetic our generations are becoming. Its almost a send-up of modern people.

You havent seen the American version of the Office? Goes from strength to strength and is comfortably the best comedy going around.

Two and a half men a modern classic?
Yeah i agree one of the better comedies on tv with:
The Office US
My Name is Earl
Big Bang Theory.

alyson hannigan. she's not a great actress, and the way she talks is just downright annoying. it's weird. i find the rest of the characters to be totally bearable, comparatively.
Excellent show, I love it. Barney is awesome, and Robin  just gorgeous.
The cast have great chemistry, and I love the effort that gets put in to keep up the continuity.
Season 3 has had some weak episodes, but also some of the very best of the whole series, post-strike they are mostly excellent. 7 are doing a pretty crappy job of showing it though, they are about 2 months behind, with 6 episodes left of season 3.

That's something I noticed, too. If something happens in season 1, it's not forgotten by season 3. Too many sitcoms have a completely different/seperated storyline from week to week.

Mates and I are massive fans, good witty humour, only just got into it though.
My favourites are Boston Legal, Flight of the Conchords, Arrested Development, Extras and pretty much all the adult humour cartoons.
But How I Met Your Mother has suprised me. Actually suited up the other night because we were doing nothing and decided to go out. Seriously legendary night, saw friends I haven't seen in ages, picked up a girl from high school, went home with another one...just a crazy crazy night. All thanks to Barney.

Boston Legal = what they call a dramedy.
Just because each episode features Shatner doing something stupid for a laugh doesn't mean it's any less of a drama. They focus on a lot of important stuff in between Shatner's gimmicks.
Best show, god how i love it, oh and if given the chance/opportunity i would tear robin up ;)

Geez there are some shit "comedies" on the moment.
Yeah, Two & a half men is an absolute classic  - well, at least the laugh track thinks so.
And HIMYM? Please.
Both of them hold nothing on modern greats such as Extras, The Office, Arrested Development, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
And as for challenging some of the greatest ever such as Fawlty Towers, Seinfeld, Dad's Army, Blackadder etc - these two are not worthy to shine their respective proverbial boots.

Have you actually watched a full episode of HIMYM without a preconceived idea that it would be another 'cookie cutter' American sitcom with a laugh track that you wouldn't like?
This is a genuine question because I reckon there would be quite a few people on this board who are quick to dismis a sitcom simply because they are American or have a laugh track.
If you have watched an episode which one was it?

Compared to the other crap on tv these days i think its pretty good. Generally get a few good laughs out of it without trying to laugh **cough two and a half men cough** Special mention to arrested development, the office (uk of course) and flight of the conchords.
Also, the office (us) is bad and continues to get lamer

I have watched all episodes of HIMYM upto and including all the current season 4 episods and I can categorically say I'm not into it. The only person that is remotely good to watch is Barney. The rest is pretty forgettable. The ret is so ****ing uptight and boring and totally not funny. The show doesn't even come close to mildly good shows like My Name is Earl, The Office, and Flight of the Concords let alone even be compared with the current king of comedies, - "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia". Jesus christ go watch the first season of "Sunny" and come back to me with who is more superior show. That show alone from this generation's crop of comedies has the pedigree to stand alongside the true greats like Seinfeld, Fawlty Towers, Arrested Development, M.A.S.H and Hogan's Heroes.

Yeah i've seen every single episode and the only name I remember from the show is Barney and Robin. I have no recollection at all of the names of the other cast members. It's mildly good to watch while i'm eating my dinner and nothing else is on.
I thought the 'Robin Sparkles' episode was pretty good though.
For the love of God- it is not even close to the funniest comedies out there. Try some proper comedies. FOTC, 30Rock, Arrested Development, both "The Office" series, Curb your Enthusiasm (to an extent), and even to some extent- the early Scrubs.

Way to lose all credibility in one hit.
M.A.S.H isn't funny now and only morons would have found it funny "back in the day".
P.S. Sunny doesn't come close to Seinfeld, sorry:thumbsd: It's not in the same league, not even close.

Yes it is. Seinfeld may be the King but the others are the princes of comedy, especially Sunny. Just out of curiosity, how many It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia episodes have you seen? While the show many not beat Seinfeld cause let's face it, nothing will ever ever beat Seinfeld but Sunny is only half a step behind it.
