That the 2nd quarter of the Geelong Kangaroos game went for 36 mins -according to AFL Gameday Live- which is a very long quarter. I was just wondering what the longest quarter and the longest game footy have been? :thumbsu:

They possibly dont stop the clock when the umpire blows his whistle to stop play.

11 goals in the quarter would add a lot of time but not 16 minutes. maybe someone got stretchered off.

A quarter went for 38 minutes when St. Kilda played Brisbane in 2005. This was in the last quarter.

Think there was a quarter in 1999 at Carlton that went for 39 minutes.

I remember a couple of years back in a Hawthorn vs Western Bulldogs game one of the quarters went for something like 42 minutes which is the longest ever quarter.

I remember the quarter when Richard Osborne had to get stretchered off from that horrible injury, it ended up going for something like 45 minutes.

hmmm... i remember there was a match between Carlton and the Bulldogs where almost all quarters went far over 30 minutes, with at least one exceeding 40 minutes. Don't remember when though..

well it used to be 25 minutes plus time on rather than just the 20 they play now, so probably would have been common to have 35 minute quaters + back in the day.
