Working Dog Productions, the team behind Frontline, The Panel and Thank God You’re Here, have been commissioned by ABC to produce a new six-part comedy/drama series.
The new series, The Hollowmen, is based around an internal think tank, set up by the Prime Minister, whose responsibility is long-term policy vision. The unit’s task is to stop worrying about tomorrow’s headlines and worry about next week’s.
Kim Dalton, ABC’s director of television, welcomed the new production:
“ABC is pleased and proud to be working again with Working Dog, which is unquestionably one of the most successful TV comedy teams in Australia.”
“ABC audiences still remember and talk about Frontline, and they’re going to love The Hollowmen – a timely and very funny political satire.”
Working Dog’s Michael Hirsh:
“We have been constantly talking to ABC over the years. The ABC has been very welcoming to our ideas and it’s exciting to be working together on The Hollowmen.”
The new series, to be produced in Melbourne and Canberra, will go into production in the next few weeks.
The Hollowmen is anticipated to be scheduled as part of ABC1’s regular Wednesday night comedy line-up, and will be repeated on ABC2

Very good. They have had way more hits than misses, so this should be great.

Would have preferred John Clark to do this show rather than Working Dog.

Sounds very similar in style to the mocumentary he did for the Sydney olympics. Lots of the blind leading the clueless.

Is it just me who thinks this sounds a little like Yes, Minister?

That said, i'm really looking forward to it.

They were responsible for The Panel, so a good show is not guaranteed.

Even if it is (and maybe that was where the idea came from) that would be cool.
I used to cack at Humphrey Appleby pushing Hacker around and remember thinking the format would totally suit Canberra as well.
Australian politics is full of just as many yes men & appologists to the masses.

Working Dog will nail this IMO. :thumbsu:
