Working Dog Productions, the team behind Frontline, The Panel and Thank God You’re Here, have been commissioned by ABC to produce a new six-part comedy/drama series.
The new series, The Hollowmen, is based around an internal think tank, set up by the Prime Minister, whose responsibility is long-term policy vision. The unit’s task is to stop worrying about tomorrow’s headlines and worry about next week’s.
Kim Dalton, ABC’s director of television, welcomed the new production:
“ABC is pleased and proud to be working again with Working Dog, which is unquestionably one of the most successful TV comedy teams in Australia.”
“ABC audiences still remember and talk about Frontline, and they’re going to love The Hollowmen – a timely and very funny political satire.”
Working Dog’s Michael Hirsh:
“We have been constantly talking to ABC over the years. The ABC has been very welcoming to our ideas and it’s exciting to be working together on The Hollowmen.”
The new series, to be produced in Melbourne and Canberra, will go into production in the next few weeks.
The Hollowmen is anticipated to be scheduled as part of ABC1’s regular Wednesday night comedy line-up, and will be repeated on ABC2
