View Full Version : Ryan O'Keefe's Trade Value

Ryan O'Keefe is not contracted for next year at this stage. I would expect the Swans to give him what he needs as he is a required player.

If O'Keefe did want to move back home to Vic, what would clubs be willing to give up for him???

Top 3 pick. I'd give Sydney our first rounder for O'Keefe. Huge engine, can play midfield, forward.

Swap for Joel Corey? O'Keefe is an excellent player, works hard and is a great presence in a forward line. Perhaps say Prismall and our 1st pick (Hopefully #17 or something!) But maybe the Swans would want more than that for him.

Wouldn't he want to go to Perth i he was to leave Geelong?

O'Keefe would attract huge interest if he wanted to come back home to Victoria. I'd hope Carlton look at him closely, and make a serious play for him.

Pick 7-15+decent player

O'Keefe is an all out gun, can play forward, midfield, nice size at 6'3"
Would be in the top 6 best players in pretty much every club

But its wishful thinking, i dont think he'll leave a club where hes played in a premiership, and they look at having another crack this year/next

Top 3 pick is way too much.

O'Keefe is quality, but picks are at a premium this year.

O'Keefe is 27. Will be 28 by the start of next season. Throwing a top 3 pick at a player that age is crazy.

somewhat of an up-and-comer eg. adam bentick + 1st/2nd round draft pick

Tough one. I'd say late 1st round.

would have to be late first or late second round as any club with a high pick would most likely be concerntrating on youth and rebuilding.

One club would be mighty stupid to do that deal and it's not Geelong.

Possible first round draft pick and a player i would say. Can't see him leaving the swans though

First round pick and a fringe player like Ted Richards who Sydney can turn into another solid player.

Pick 6-10, or 11-16 and a fringe player. Something like that.

pick 10-20 plus a quality player would do the deal i think

O'Keefe isn't young.

I can't imagine a side offering a first rounder and a promising youngster.

Look at Hawthorn.

Let's say they finish top four this year.

I don't reckon they'd want to cough up pick 13-16 and Grant Birchall for O'Keefe. I don't think they'd even consider that.

A club would perhaps be prepared to offer up that pick along with a fringe player who represented value to the Swans. But I reckon most clubs would be reluctant to package that pick with a young player already in their best 22.

Ryan O'Keefe played some of his contract negotiations in public last time the issue came up (in 2005), cleverly implying he could go if the price wasn't right without overtly screaming "I want more".

Now he's doing it again. (http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/push-to-extend-okeefes-term-with-swans/2008/06/04/1212258909351.html) It's in both his and Sydney's (or other clubs') interest to give him a 3-year deal. So this will be probably the last really big pay-packet of his career, seeing him through to 31. Can't blame him for squeezing it for all it's worth.

His value has increased since 2005, and he wasn't cheap in 2005. The Swans have lost very very few highly-paid players in the interim (basically just Williams 2006 and to a lesser extent Schneider 2007) and taken on the added cost of Spida and Mattner; albeit MOL and Leo are now on the veteran's list (at half-price for sal cap purposes). It all adds up to salary cap pressure. Luckily for the bean-counters, Spida's expected retirement plus the likely 'forced' retirements of Mathews and Crouch (who will be on decent money, albeit not megabucks) should free up enough.

Swans would never dream of putting ROK up for trade unless contract negotiations had absolutely, hopelessly broken down. Which I don't think is likely. In terms of team structure, ROK is worth more to Sydney than Goodes. Seriously.

64 possies in the last two games. Tremendous for a player who does the role that ROK does. I really hope the Swans sign him and sign him soon.

If Carlton couldn't strike a deal with Fev, then it would be very fortunate for the blues if ROK decided he wanted out.
