Love him, but he's finished.
2 year contract was stupid; based on sentimentality, nothing else.

An underdone Gill or Hentschel would have had more of an impact. They would have at least had a kick or two. I forgot Kenny was even playing.

Just gave him a special mention in the thread I just started, it's time for him to give up AFL footy. The game has left him behind.

7 Jun 2008, 16:26
He is completely useless!! If he was in his early 20's and was a development player you would be saying well he'll be better for the hitout but McGregor just isn't worth it, i'd rather see Sellar, Walker, Trent, Gill in the team even with the other two under done they couldn't be doing much worse.....

Mark my words, this is McGregors last game.
To be fair I think he might have spent most of the game on the bench.
But when he was out there..... Wow. Awful.
But nothing different to how he played in the SANFL finals last year. The scouts/coaches must've all gone on holiday and not watched. He was done last season.
Bit harsh calling him doughnuts when he has 1 handball :)
Hey, who are Norwood playing 2day? Are they winning? I've been out of the state and someone nicked our paper this morning so I've got no clue.
Sounds like they have quadrupled last match's goalkicking effort at least :)
I feel sorry for him. When he gave away that free in the ruck contest (for god only knows what for) he actually though he had the free and must of thought here is my chance to actually feel boot on leather.

Not defending him but how can any forward have an impact with some of our delivery today.

Agree with this. The way we pick out opposition players on their own would be sensational if that was our aim.

Whoever asked, Norwood are leading the Eagles pretty convincly at the moment.
Walker has 4 and it's the second quarter, and Trent is looking pretty good.

Another shocking game from a player who just has no upside. Get rid of him and bring in Trent or Walker.
Sad to see but it is time to go for good. I know he has a contract until next year, but from the sounds of things the way Walker and 'Rowdy' are going, followed by sellar and gil, i can't see him getting a game for the rest of the year let alone next year.
Would rather the club pay out his contract next year and allow another KPF come in the squad next year.

You know guys....I told ya so and it pains me to say that. The writing has been on the wall all season. Unfortunate but we hopefully will have some options available next week.
The only unfortunate part is that he is still getting the odd game. I can't understand why anyone has rated him in the past.
That's harsh. A few years ago Kenny was rated the best CHB in the competition. He has played some great footy for our club. He did nothing today with very limited game time as far as I could tell on the telly.
He's obviously not in our best 22 and possibly won't get another game, but let's send him off with a thumbs up rather than a fart.

Yeah it's harsh to say he's never been any good. I think it was 04 when we had a shocking year, from memory Kenny was one of the few who had a fair dinkum crack every weekend.

As I posted a while back, the game has passed McGregor by. He just cannot keep up with the pace of the modern game.
However, having said that, he has played valuable games in the past for the Crows & anyone who says any different knows buggar all about our wonderful game.
I wouldn't rush back either Henstchel & Gill. Either Griffin comes in for McGregor or Walker debuts next week.

he's been a very valuable servant of the club, and i on behalf of most crows fans thank him for his efforts
but its fair to day, it was worth keeping him as an insurance policy, just incase tippett turned out to be a dud (or injury for that matter), but it's passed him by now
but he would now be quite low in the food chain at west lakes

Geez, following two very average performances against West Coast and Essendon - we bring Ken back in and all of a sudden we play our best, most accurate, highest scoring half of footy of the season.
Now, is Ken's mere presence 100% responsible for this turnaround? IMO... yes.
Average score per game this season with K-Mac - 108 points
Average score per game this season without K-Mac - 94.5 points (and that includes the bye against Melbourne)
Not only that but we have kicked 111.90 with Ken in the team and a poor 51.72 without him in the team.
Join the dots on those. No K-Mac, no AFC. Go Ken!

Out of all the Adelaide Crows players, I would love Ken to play really well the most. Unfortunately it doesn't look like thats going to happen.
Yep. Has been a solid contributer for our club in the past but the game has passed him by. He looks so slow out there. Hard to believe he's only 27. As a KPP he should be carving it up at that age.
I saw in the paper today he had 2 possessions....and 3 clangers! Seriously, how is that possible?!

You could maybe forgive him a few bad games if he was still working hard but a tackle count of nil means he has zero workrate. I think, barring serious injury, yesterday should be Kens last game in Crows colours. Gill, Sellar or even Kite (until trent H is ready)should always be picked ahead of him now if we need to replace a tall - Ken is giving us nothing.
2 year contract was stupid; based on sentimentality, nothing else.
It wasn't sentimentality, it was insurance. To hedge against injuries, for when there is a hole in the side.
Gill isn't fit, Sellar isn't in form, Walker is still a baby, Griff and Moran injured = Mcgregor gets a game.
He'll be dropped next week for Griff coming back in.
As woeful as his last two games have been, I would love to see the bloke get a chance to redeem himself before he packs it in. Just a couple of quarters of reliable footy.
Clearly, he can't keep up with the pace of the game anymore, but it's sad to see players leave on a low. Should've called it quits after booting four against Hawthorn last year.
As a side note, I was pretty sure I saw him land one tackle (right before bassett ran that goal through). I got pretty excited. Must've been someone else.

What year was this?
I really don't understand the love for him, he's never fulfilled his potential. He's always been slow, can't kick 50m without a tail wind and never consistently played well.
He's been a serviceable player for this club but it's time for him to go. He still has age on his side to maybe get another gig, I hope he does and does well but his time with the Crows should be over.

Back in '03/'04 and moving into '05 a little he was one of the better CHBs in the comp, don't know about the best but a quality one definitely. He would continually take great defensive saving grabs in the middle of packs etc stopping many an opposition attacking foray. He is a decent defender, not of the class of Bock and Rutten, but still a much better defender than he is forward.
Poor bloke doesn't even get respect from the statisticians. A nice big juicy photo in the Tiser today of Kenny wrapping up Tivendale in a bear hug, and he's credited with zero tackles.
What year was this?
A couple of years ago Mick Malthouse had him in his AA side. Jonathon Brown rated him his toughest opponent.

And what different ends of the ground they mainly played.
You're comparing primarily a CHB with primarily a lead-up forward.

Well I think that's what makes Perrie's stats even better compared to KM. Take goals and behinds out it, Perries played the harder position for longer but Perrie played down back as did McGregor forward. People can elevate KM to something he isn't if they want to but he's never been anything more than a decent player who never fulfilled his potential. Fair enough he may have had two good years but he's been with the club since 1998 or 1999, he hasn't done enough for all the praise he receives.

 ........I'm not sure the treatment of both players has differed that much ...........Kenny enjoyed a strong period as a stopping CHB but both in latter stages of their careers have had to put up with strong and sustained criticism ......maybe Kenny more than Perrie

Blind Freddie can see that Kenny appears to have come to the end of the road, having lost all pace and mobility.
However he has been a good and at times excellent servant of the AFC for over 150 games until the last year and a bit.
Enjoy your moment in the sun laying crap on him but don't attempt to re-write history. :thumbsd:

Maybe if he continues on embarrassing himself for the rest of this year.
But he's got a long way to go in the "much maligned" stakes to get close to Pez. At least in my books.

ooooOH not so sure about that .........Kenny's supporters have relied on "phantom" injuries to explain away his form over the last season and half.
No-one gave any credit to Perrie for playing with injury ........that IMO was an injustice.

Absolutely true .....whilst I have been a constant critic over the last couple of seasons .....probably corresponding with his move from defence ......there is no doubt that for 4 seasons he was the rock around which our defence was built.
To de-value that contribution is grossly unfair ......and I agree with your comments ......about time me thinks ;)

Is it just me or are you and Bus24 trying to make the same point, yet arguing about it?
IMO Perrie recieve a lot more flak than Mcgregor, sometimes warranted sometimes unfairly, both however have over the past 10 odd years been wonderful servants for the club and deserve our respect. It is however time for the AFC to move on, we moved on from Perrie at the end of last year, IMO we should have moved on from Mcgregor as well.
