Half time and we have looked as flat as a tack all game. Alastair Clarkson made a comment a couple of weeks ago about how hard it is to stay up there for long periods of time. Presto, the Hawks got beaten that week.
We hit the ground running on week one of the MM Cup as the fittest side in the comp. Maybe we should ease off for awhile and get some run back into the players' legs?

Stupid Football decisions are more of a problem.

Maybe the boys should toughen up and earn their pay cheques. Not working anywhere near hard enough off the ball, haven't seen any sheparding being done to help the ball carriers and were not running hard enough to get into space. Plus were playing way too wide.

Yeah, okay, you both have good points. But why has our workrate dropped off and why are we no longer running as hard as the first weeks of the season?

I don't think so, the pathetic application of the midfield 'zone' is what is absolutely killing us today. This wouldn't be a fitness issue so early in the game, instead it's just a lack of discipline and respect for their opponents as well as a bundle of stupid decision making.

They're getting totally sucked in by the Richmond runners who seem to just roam uncontested just about all over the ground. To blame it on their training regime takes away from the pathetic performance of just about everyone in the centre apart from Edwards (if he keeps this up he's safe for the year) and Thommo.

Maybe you're right. Either Richmond simply ran themselves out in the 1st half, or else putting Porps into the midfield and leaving Jericho on for the 3rd quarter had the effect. I suppose it's a combination of things. Totally different game after half time.

over the last three weeks i reckon we have been training harder or at least trained for lower match day performance with the expectation to pick up in the next few weeks.

the afc seem to be very aware of cycles in performance and try to manage peaks to be in sync with meeting more difficult opponents.

as a counter example see collingwood.

That is a point and lets not forget last week we played having only 4 days to prepare
