I get really frustrated watching football nowadays. The game seems to be overumpired and ANY contact on forwards is rewarded with a free kick. Just noticed the free for Thomson against Newman as a case in point.

Not to mention the first 3 goals gifted to adelaide by free kicks

The game's a sad joke now...thanks in part to the AFL's knee-jerk reactions to every piece of hysterical p.c. shrieking by the media....I remember the way foreigners ,even Yanks used to be astonished and impressedat the toughness and "brutality" of Aussie Rules....unlike most Aussies..I don't suffer from cultural cringe and don't really give a toss what foreigners think of us....but even I'd be embarrassed to show a game to an overseas visitor nowadays...

surely someone from richmond has to say something about those inept umpires today they got 7 goals as a result of very soft free kicks .

how was that brown run-down on the half-forward flank not holding the ball?

What about free against Moore in the last q - what a joke.

The umpiring today, as has been all season, was shit house!
The Browny holding the ball not payed, the Moore...whatever was payed against Moore, and the first free of the game gifting them a goal, then a 50m giving them the second goal were soft as hell.
On the flip side, we got some dodgy, cheap ones too (not as many as crows, but a lot all the same).
I want to become an umpire to get some spare cash, but surely I'd make it straight to the AFL, the way the new ones are going. Fila, one of todays umps, was the same bloke that gave C. Jones 7 I/50 frees when we versed North.
Wanker!

Lol, sitting in the Adelaide cheer squad opened my other eye, and the 2 50's we got resulting in goals were both technically there, but very soft all the same.
I cant remember any specific examples other than that, but we did have a few cheap ones, believe me.
Not that it makes it any better and still makes the game like b'ball.

Imagine how SOS would go these days .

Is it all Demetriou's fault?

Very good point. Imagine how the full back of the century would fare under the current rules. It would be interesting to hear his take on all this. He should be employed by the AFL as an expert on rule formation in regards to spoiling etc.
