VIC METRO young-gun Jackson Trengrove will miss the rest of the season with a knee and hamstring injury sustained during a recent training session.
Trengrove, a 196cm tall defender/ruckman from the Calder Cannons, is one of the most highly rated players in this year’s NAB AFL under 18 championships, and a top 10 draft prospect.
AIS/AFL Academy high performance manager Alan McConnell is confident Trengrove will bounce back in time for the October NAB AFL Draft Camp.
“[The injury happened] in a mock pressure situation training drill with Metro on Thursday evening,” McConnell told afl.com.au.
“He’s ruptured the lateral ligament in the knee and torn the hamstring from the bone, so it’s actually a break of the bone that’s caused the attachment to come free.
“He’ll be operated on Tuesday next week to deal with both of those matters.
“The prognosis is good, provided that there’s no surprises when the surgeon gets in – they expect 100 per cent recovery and about a three-month rehab, so we’d hope he’d be ready to do something by draft camp time at this stage.”
===============
Really bad news for jackson. He looked like he could firm as a top 10 pick or so, but this may mean he drops a bit back to the pack.
Bugger, that's nasty. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery.

everyone spells his name wrong. Was in the Coburg rooms where Cannons play and the plaque on the wall said 3rd b & f J Trengrove.
Feel very sorry for Jacko he is a great kid and super player hopefully won't affect his chance too much

Bad news. I don't think it'll be a case of out of sight, out of mind though. He's a very talented and exciting prospect, I guess it just adds a slight question mark over what his projected improvement was going to be like for the rest of the year. I don't think he'll slide too far, but it's disappointing that he'll have to miss so much footy.

Somewhat like Paddy Ryder - He's really more of a ruckman at this stage, but he's athletic enough to and already does play KP pretty well.
Of course, this injury sounds pretty severe, so you might question what it could potentially do to his athleticism. Hopefully there are no long-term effects though.
You wouldn't have thought his injury is anywhere near the kind of concern that Beau Muston's was, so I'd say he should still be drafted around the same range - 15-25.

I guess the thing is that I saw him as someone who could really rise his stocks through the Championships and the second half of the TAC Cup season. So it may not change his draft prospects too much from this moment, however it will probably prevent him from pushing himself a bit higher in the order.

A real stickler for spelling, aren't you ? ;)
real big blow for Jacko, and I wish him a speedy recovery.
Where do we have him going at now?
My guess, 15-20.

In a way it's not the WORST possible thing for him to do. There are clubs that will take him, and as long as he gets drafted, that's the main thing for him. He looks a little light on for muscle mass, so he can know take time to build up some bulk, that will make him a more interesting prospect for clubs come draft day. It may mean the difference between him getting picked up 2nd round to late first round, but if he got himself into a state that made him a "ready made" type player, like a Robbie Tarrent of last year, he might be an interesting prospect to teams like the Hawks or Cats, who are probebly looking to 'top up.'
I really see him as a key possie defender in the near future, especially if this knee injury doesn't mean he losses any speed. Will probebly take a couple of years to hit full potential though.

Good chance he'll go to a top 4 club, which will ease his pain somewhat ;)
Seriously, it'll be devastating for him in the biggest year of his life...so far!

great point vinnie. like your work.
How come they can spell the big chief Andrew Dimetriiioooo's (lol)name correctly but just cannot get this trenGOVE kids name correct.
AFL should take time to correct their repeated error and fix their database once and for all. :o

You'd have to think so. Too good a talent not to be drafted. If he's ready to go around draft camp, he may not slide too far at all.

Clubs will be scared. Thats a given. But some gambling recruiting manager will pull the trigger early on this KP prospect be4 the 2 expansion clubs start raping the Talls from 2009 onwards. He could be very special.

Some of the comedy I've seen on here this week has been interesting to say the least.
Hope the operation did go well. Always feel sorry for these kids when they injure themselves badly. Having said that, if he's as good as some are saying he should still be drafted and given the opportunity.

10 Weeks? Completely torn lateral ligament as well as a torn hamstring off the bone?
If he is only missing for 10 weeks then hes come back too early.
Matt Lloyd missed 6 Months with a hamstring off the bone, let alone a lateral ligament tear as well. Im not sure if the hamstring required surgery but surgery on a lateral would be at least 8 weeks. Combine this with the wastage locally around the knee in terms of muscle and he's looking at best to be available for Draft Camp, although IMO he'll still be a tad underdone.
Shocking news for the kid, what is with the talents dropping with knees over the past 2 years? Not just any kids either, legitimate draftables. Any news on Tom Swift?

Their names are spelt wrong way too often.
"Trengrove" is really Trengove and "Kruezer" is really Kreuzer. People have cottoned on to the Kreuzer one because he's famous now, but the Sun even started out by spelling his name wrong when the hype started up around May last year.

Interesting thoughts re the number of knee injuries to young guys. Would be great to get some more thoughts to know exactly how many and who.
My mail is that TrenGOVE's (how's that Vic Crow) was a training accident that could have been avoided. Some of the others such as Lynch's are actual game situations. Close sources say TrenGOVE's knee is not as serious as early thoughts and the operation was 100% success. Nothing like Lloyds hamstring. Yes it was a ligament but it was the external and he has no damage what so ever to the internal ligaments, cartilage and knee joint that are related to total knee reconstructions as with say a Joel selwood (I believe). Who I must add imo is travelling quite well now. selwood would have a few clubs very upset they didn't take the chance after his knee reconstruction i.e. the Brisbane Lions. The Catters are laughing all the way. I believe the AIS are simply giving TrenGOVE the rest of the year to get 100% ready for a great pre-season with which ever club is smart enough to grab him early. Word is the western state people are still talking no 3 even after surgery which may be interesting. I for one hope he recovers totally to be able to show us all his talents and what he's really got. Good luck to him. Clubs would be smart enough now to look and compare him to say a Tom Lynch for example as he is burning now after his knee injury which was much worse than TrenGOVES. :thumbsu:

Thanks for the update footyfan. Hopefully he does make a full recovery. I rate him quite highly.
As for his name, I just made a bad joke about it and had to explain it. Not really fussed by it and when he becomes a household name everyone will get it anyway. ;)

My only question is whether or not he's a ruckman or an actual key position player?
Anyone?

Personally i believe hes a centre half back, who is able to pinch hit in the ruck like jason blake except better, probably isnt tall enough or doesnt have a good enough leap to ruck at afl level.
