View Full Version : Rd 12 - Essendon Vs West Coast @ T.Dome
Friday the 13th.... It could get scary at the Dome.....
Well depends on how you look at it.
Now we dont want to talk about tanking but whoever wins this game could be worse off :p
Nah just kidding.
No matter where these 2 teams are on the ladder they are going to want to belt the living suitcase out of each other and going on past results Essendon have been the masters when playing in Victoria.
Eagles have only beaten the dons once at the Dome (2006) but last year they split there 2 games with 2 classic encounters...
Rd 11 - Ess def WCE by 1 point @ T.Dome
Rd 22 - WCE def Ess by 7 points @ Subiaco
Both of these 2 games the Eagles led by HUGE margins at half time to get reeled in by the fast finishing dons.
Scott Lucas' final quarter at Subiaco in Round 22 with 7 goals was one of the finest bits of individual play ever to be seen, single handedly dragging his team to almost victory... almost... but it did see the eagles not able to finish top 2... anyway....
This game promises to be close.
Both teams have had shocking seasons but in recent weeks have shown glimpses of decent form. Essendon were brave against Adelaide At AAMI and could have snatched it and the Eagles, with more accuracy, would have posted a great win against Sydney.
Both teams will see this game as a tick in the "W" box.
I am going to tip Essendon because what I have seen from this young eagles outfit is that when they play away they seem to go into their shells a tad and with an expected 40,000+ Essendon supporters screaming their black and red lungs out they could go even further into their shells.
Nothing would make me more happy than to head to the Dome on Friday night and see the Eagles win but I dunno, I just cant see it. Maybe I have been burnt by the dons too many times in the past :p
Anyway....
Prediction: Essendon by 8 points.

west coast by 20 points.
Confident but no overly so. Essendon know just how to ____ us up, they've been doing it for 20+ years.
Also this will be the first time in history where Essendon play against West Coast without Kevin Sheedy as coach.
Whether that has anything to do with the bombers domination over the Eagles is something time will tell.
Hopefully Woosha can start his own dominance over the Dons and try and get that win-loss ratio starting to look a bit healthier
An entertaining encounter awaits.
eagles by a goal, after leading by 4 goals at 3/4 time.
WC by 15 after establishing a decent lead Essendon claw back to almost pinch it.

My tip: Essendon in a close one again.

Looking at the Fixtures for both teams this is an important win for both. It could be a great vote of confidence, This match will be so incredibly close.
Kerr will be hard to match up on. :(
I see big games from Myers, Winderlich and Reimers.
My prediction.
Drawn Game.
Bombers 14 - 7 - 91
Eagles 13 - 13 - 91

Slaterry;)
i look forward to seeing who Ryder plays on.
we should have staker, lynch and hansen as our big forwards.
lynch has been playing more up the ground with staker as a HF.
ryder would go to either staker or hansen (if he gets a game, which i think he will).

Should be a good young gun affair, hopefully we end up taking the choccies but not going in too confident to be honest, as we haven't one a game in quite a while...

10 Jun 2008, 23:10
Based on last weeks performance, and to all the coasties who screamed about how they lost the game, WC should slam dunk this. The Bombers are no way in the same ballpark as the Swans and the Eagles believe the umps stole that game at the last minute(literally)If thats the case then Essedon should not get within 3 goals all day and WC get a much needed win. As for tanking Id hate to think at round 12 teams are already starting to think draft pick.WC does not need it. They are 1 year removed from winning a GF. How they could think about a priority pick is beyond me.How can you go from GF winners and talk of dynasty to priority pick in 2 years. Come on guys thats a little far fetched and if it happens then tank isnt a strong enough word for it.
I think we should get up in this one by around 4 goals.
Stan Gibson to dominate. Essendon have no one to play on him.

The WC players will be laughing to hard at Riemers boots to stop Essendon from winning by 100.
The key is the performance of WC's Senior players.
The WC senior players have been inconsistent this year.
WC will win if their senior players stand up.

LLOYD and LUCAS kicked 8 between them last year at this venue and the team kicked something like 15 . 5 too win by a point , eagles kicked 14.10.
cant see them being that usefull (Lloyd is nearly finished) and accurate this time round , if the eagles can mantain last weeks form then they will win more than they loose for the second half of the season .

You might be surprised, because we are both crap teams there might be a high lack of pressure on the player when he has the ball. Could be very entertaining. Bombers by 10 points.
schofield is going to own whoever he plays on.

This isn't the same team as last year. Our players that are still there are not playing to their potential. Injury list is quite big, although it was last year too.
When have we looked that much better than the Bombers? 1 quarter last week, a game against Adelaide, when else though? Away we have been thrashed all times but one.
I don't know how some Eagles supporters are so confident. At the dome, it's going to be tough.

Just an article guys relating to the game.
Bring on Bombers, says Sumich
WEST Coast Eagles premiership players Chad Fletcher and Michael Braun did not make the trip to Melbourne for Friday night’s match against Essendon.
However, assistant coach Peter Sumich is bullish on his team’s chance against the Bombers.
"We think they’re all winnable, I know a lot of people might think that’s a bit off the mark, but we thought we could beat Collingwood after a great game against Adelaide and we think we can beat Essendon," Sumich said before training at Junction Oval on Thursday.
"Brauny’s got a sore knee and we had it really penciled in this game, he’s been fighting it for a number of weeks, we rested him and he’ll be back next week.
"Chad Fletcher had a [sore] back early in the year, but it came good and he’s just stiffened up a fair bit now and he was another one we thought [could do without] the plane trip and he’ll be right next week against Geelong.
"Fletcher’s form has been great and Braun’s, I think, over the last two weeks has picked right up, so body-wise if they were 100 percent to go they would be here, but their bodies are just a little bit off."
West Coast has scored just four more points than the last-placed Demons this season, but Sumich confirmed the attack will be bolstered by the return of young forward Mark LeCras from a groin injury that has sidelined him since round one.
But Ashley Hansen, earmarked early in the week to return, is still unavailable with his presence sorely missed in the sputtering forward line.
"I think it’s got a lot to do with our personnel rotating through there, we’ve had a lot of players in there and we haven’t been settled," Sumich said.
"Of course our midfield group isn’t as it was a year or two ago, so they’re learning the caper too and hopefully they can start hitting the scoreboard as well."
Sumich maintained the fierce West Coast-Essendon rivalry of the Mick Malthouse-Kevin Sheedy era had mellowed with John Worsfold keen for this group to make their own history, but said he was looking forward to a good contest nonetheless.
"They’ve got a similar side to us, but they’ve got a very good forward line still," he said.
“I still think Matthew Lloyd and Scott Lucas are great players and on their day can kick a winning score. Some of their younger kids have been great this year and they’ve had their ups and downs the same as us.
"It’s going to be actually a great game in my opinion because it will be interesting to see which side gets on top early and whether the other side can kick a couple of goals and get back into the game."

This is the best young Eagles team I have seen all year.
Butler is back!
Good to see Ebert back to. Anyone from a big footy family has got to have talent and I think he does.
I also like the way Masten goes about his footy.
The baby Bombers are gone. They lost their 2nd most promising young talent after Davey with Houli gone this week.
West Coast might not kick a huge bag of goals but I think they should kick enough to hurt this Bombers side.
Going to get amongst some live updates on the blog tonight for those that can't see the game, so if you can't get to a TV drop on by and I'll keep you up to date!
FWIW I think the Eagles by about 3 goals, but the youngsters playing in Melbourne has me more than worried - we all know how quickly the Bombers can get a run on and kill off a game in a quarter

Looking at the stats it seems the Bombers are getting a lot more of the ball (no I don't have Foxtel). Is it a high pressure game or fairly free flowing?
