setanta was so pumped when he came down to see the cheersquad, thought he would take someones head off with some of his hi 5's.
Played very well today, made some crucial spoils. If we can keep the ball out of his hands he is a very valuable player to us.

His disposal has improved huge amounts and is now actually pretty decent. I no longer cringe nearly as much when the ball is in his hands.

Anyone still on Setanta's back about his kicking just hasn't been paying attention. His efficiency must be in the top 10% at Carlton.

He's definitely proven me wrong. Love the guy and I couldn't help but laugh seeing him jump around during the song. :D
Thought Carlos played a ripper of a game yesterday, and had very good reason to be excited after the game.
As for his kicking, he barely misses a target. He takes alot of care with his kicking. Please please please leave him in the backline..

Definitely deserves a free can of soda from the canteen for that effort!

I'd go as far as to say he's in the best 5-10 at the club at set shots from 50 without too much angle to deal with :thumbsu:

Is there a link to watch it???
Setanta is undergoing the transition from a novelty project player, to a valuable team-player. Much more team-oriented this year, and learning the subtleties of the game. His height and athleticism are massive assets for our defensive lineup. :)
yeah I Saw it wonder what he'll do when we beat Collingwood by the look of our Boys they will aim to bat Collingwood :) when ya only 2 pts out of the top 8 they will give the top 8 a good old Shake :thumbsu: so we can see what Setanta dose ;)

its not so much his kicking, which is 100% better. Its his decision making and getting caught with it. I was tearing my hair out vs Geelong but last night he was fine.
question: where does he play with jamo bower thornton and waite there?
ruck-no
forward-no
both of these failed, but our other backman have probably been better than him down there.
I suppose if jamo plays small and thornton is either on a small or loose. The three talls could be setanta waite and bower......unfortunately this wont be a problem for a while...damn bowers injury

Not a hard question - he is the only real tall and big bodied defender we have

Ha yeah that was hilarious, good on the lad. I don't follow Carlton at all but I really hope he is given every opportunity to be a star, would be a shame for the guy to fail having travelled halfway across the world. Out of curiosity, I don't hear much about Aisake, I presume he's on the way out?? What do you think Carlton will do with him if he is delisted, you'd think they'd want him around to stop Setanta getting homesick. Or would he go back to Ireland??

I must concede I was wrong about Setanta not being suited in defence. He seems to have totally overcome his nervousness when down back & has learnt how to spoil without giving away too many free kicks. His spoil early in the 3rd quarter which resulted in a goal to Westhoff was unfortunate, but he no longer drops the head after making such an error, instead he just moves on to the next contest.
His last month has been the best of his career so far, & I hope this is the start of him becoming an important part of our defence, as we look to challenge for premiership honours in the next 2-3 years.

Aisake is on the outer I think. I think he may have stated somewhere recently he'll be going at years end. I don't think Setanta would go back home, no doubt Aisake helps him not getting homesick but he's become really close with Eddie and a few of the other boys
Setanta is really developing atm. With Setanta, Bower, Jamison and Thornton all able to hold down key positions. Waite may be moved forward as soon as the backline is settled.

Not his fault. Westhoff's man left to help Setanta (which in itself isn't bad football) and left Westhoff front and square for the predictable punch. Once teammates understand that Setanta will get the punch in most times they'll stay front and square.
He's really worked his way back after an interrupted pre-season and slow start.

question: where does he play with jamo bower thornton and waite there?
Jamo - FB
O'hailpin - CHB
Bower - third tall, can play small as needed on a Medhurst type
Thornton - 4th tall, loose man, whatever.
Waite is freed up to go to a wing or to the forward line. His so-so conversion will always be a problem up forward, but having him forward will make us multi-dimensional, with Fev and the Kruse Missile rotating through up there.
Remember you also have the ~195cm Austin starting to play very well at CHB in the reserves. If he keeps that up, then with another pre-season under his belt we should have some serious defensive options to play with next season.
Thornton potentially becomes expendable at the right price, although we would want to think carefully about that - it has been refeshing having a little defensive depth this year.

I don't think Aisake leaving will effect Setanta much.
You can tell by the way Setanta plays that he loves the game and enjoys every minute of it.
I love when he kicks a goal, he is as excited as a soccer/hockey player when they score.
Love him mostly in defence though... I love him stir up his opponant.
Did anyone see Jon Brown and Setanta put their foreheads against each other a few rounds ago?? Setanta would have none of Brownys intimidation. Both mammothical athletes.

Where they will play will depend on the opponents bodies. Setanta will probably play on guys such as Jon Brown, Pavlich, perhaps Franklin one day? has the right body.
We could have Thornton playing as a really good rebounder, or even winger once our defense fixes itself up. Thornton won't know what to do if he eventually manages to kick another goal. Poor bloke

Being able to punch/spoil with your non-preferred hand is a skill that even those raised on the game rarely master

Well obviously its horses for courses as far as match-ups go. But as a general rule Jamo has the closing speed to play on the leading full forwards, and the composure you want close to goal. And Setanta has the body size and strength play on the bigger CHF types, and the athleticism to run off them and be damaging the other way.
In reality match-ups are seldom that neat of course.

Could not help but notice his celebrations with the cheer squad and during the song. Extroverts/characters like him are great for morale. I bet our little guys also like his big gorilla act at the start of each game. :thumbsu:

The irish experiment is definently playing game-by-game without much consistency. His decision making and run out of defence is a huge worry but his kicking over a mark and set shots have improved out of sight. With Bower, Jamison, Thorton and Waite all capeable of playing good attacking football Tanta is becoming more of a depth player and one that I'd like to have. His passion with his team-mates, the fans at the cheersquad and singing the song is a fantastic asset to have around the club and heres hoping he can continue to improve because if he can become half the rebounder Kenelly is he would be a very valuable player to the CFC.

If you play that, fisher would struggle to get a spot in the team. cause the full-forward line wont change for the rest of the season: Betts Fev Kreuzer. than u got waite at CHF. there's no room for 4 talls in the forward line in any team. not quick or agile enuff to play on a flank. bench then?
if you went with your theory, the team would look somethin like:
Browne Jamison Bower
Thornton O'hAilpin Scotland
Stevens Bentick Simpson
Gibbs Waite Carrazzo
Betts Fevola Kreuzer
Hampson Judd Murphy
Fisher, Cloke, Armfield, Pfiefer
thats a fair good team. with o'hAilpin developing, carlton are set.

Pretty much - I'm not sure theres a spot for Fisher in our best side. Waite's better in the air than Fisher, and whilst neither is a particularly reliable shot for goal, at least Waitey can kick 50 metres comfortably so he's more threatening around goals.
I'd drop Fish, have Walker in for Scotland on the half back line, and Scotland on the bench.
Oh, and I'd have Grigg on the bench instead of Pfiefer.

Setanta - Josh Fraser (??)
what other forwards do Collingwood have with Rocca not playing?

Don't be surprised if N Brown goes forward. All depends on whether Kreuz goes forward I guess, can't wait.
