View Full Version : Blues and Pies have something to play for :- Rohan Connolly
Good article by Rohan at least we Carlton supporters have a big game on which the season depends on, if we do get up against the Pies we have the potential to beat the Dons and Tigers that will give us 4 wins in a row something we haven't done for a long long time. Not only that we will be in the top 8 and with the Saints struggling we might scrape into the finals. Can we do it? Can we get 90k+ at the G .... Bring it on I hope the Blues have turned the corner and hope we can play 4 quarters, should be a beauty here is a link to the article http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/blues-and-pies-have-something-to-play-for/2008/06/09/1212863547617.html?page=2

Great article, really gets the excitement levels up.
85,000+ at the MCG will be a phenomenal sight. For so long we have waited for both clubs to be doing well so that we can see the re-birth of the best and fiercest rivalry in the competition. And I can't wait for it.
It will be a fantastic atmosphere and will no doubt be a great experience for our young side. Hopefully they can rise to the occassion, and with winnable games against Richmond and Essendon in the coming weeks, really push for that final spot in the 8.
Go Blues!
Yes great article. Cant wait to take on you boys, and as much as it pains me to say it, i enjoy your brand of footy and am looking forward to the contest.
make sure you all get there and make this crowd massive, imagine a 85000-90000 all collingwood/carlton fans. it would be electric.
Good luck

Yep lets get that 100+ year rivalry back into top gear. I think our rivalry with the Pies has been cruising along in 2nd gear for a while now. But now is the time to put on the after burners and take our rivalry to the next level.

I still don't understand why Carlton Collingwood don't play each other on one of the public holidays?
It is the biggest game of the year for crowd's bar anzac day (although if we were to play on anzac day i dare say the crowd would be pretty much the same)
Queens Bday next year....Carlton v Collingwood.

If getting linked to the second page of an article is the worst thing that happens to me today, I'm in for a good one I reckon. Cheers Alpha. Er, bring it on. :thumbsu:

Yeah I can't wait until Carlton & Collingwood next meet in the finals and the greatest rivalry in the AFL is finally reborn. The biggest rivalry of the modern day - West Coast v Fremantle? Adelaide v Port Adelaide? Pfft. We're back.

Massive few weeks ahead. We take on what is considered 3 of the big 4 in consecutive weeks(the 4th being us of course);), Collingwood, Essendon and Richmond. The Carlton-Collingwood rivalry is still big even though I've grown up to hate Essendon more than any other club. If we can win 2 out of that 3, we're still well placed (we should take the bickies against the Bums and Tigers), but it will be a huge scalp to beat the infrom Pies and really should confirm us as a real finals chance. Collingwood have top 4 aspirations (and don't be surprised to see them choke in the finals and the Colliwobbles tag will be back):D, while we have a top 8 spot not out of the question.

Because we don't need to.
The game doesn't need to be played on a public holiday in order to draw huge crowds.
We'll pull huge crowds no matter when we play them.

This week will determine whether we can realistically compete for a finals spot.
Forget about Richmond and Essendon, this is the big one. To clean sweep our games against Collingwood this year would be massive, and we would go into this game feeling like we could very well win it.

Weather withstanding, there is no reason we will not get 80k+ at this game.
This is going to be a huge game with a top 8 spot at stake for us.
The only downside is that Mickey thinks his team is being ambushed but all and sundry and poor didems are getting tired both mentally and physically....oh well will just have to make sure we nail them for the 2nd time this year and sent Mickey into a frenzy.:D
Wow how long has it been since we can go into a game after the halfway mark of the season and have a chance at having a 50/50 win loss ratio.
All we need to do is make up some percentage and that'll be awesome.
A tight win against the pies 6-6-0 95%
then the dons 7-6-0 100%
then the tiges 8-6-0 105%
GO BLUES
I hope we do win but this game is exactly like last season against the Hawks ... We came off a good win Dawks had Franklin out injured and yet they smashed us allover the park. I have a feeling that we are in for a massive let down after the great win on Sunday.

Ive always loved Carlton V Collingwood games the fierce rivalry , and the footy on that day is superb especially when we come away with a win. Great article really pumping this clash right up ! hope the footy gods will be with us this sunday.
just thought that ive been floating around on the different boards, and most of the collingwood fans are predicting that we are going to smash them, because we have the finals in sights!
i find it very interesting. lol
and btw, we started at $4.50 at the TAB, and today i just checked it and we are $2.95
so we have come down a far bit!
GO BLUES!!

If all members turned up there would be 80k... but then there is bloody afl members and mcc sections.. MCC should fill up though.
unsure about AFL members.

its bout the team of the week, and im happy to say Judd is back in there!!
Is Ch 10 showing the game or CH 7? God I hope it's CH 10 seven are shockers no interviews, no song just 40 minutes of ads thrown in there after ever goal.

CH7 will be running commentary..
I'm excited for this one. Unlike last year, we go into this game with the two best players on the ground (Judd and Fev) - although Collingwood are more experienced, have more depth overall, that gives us a fighting chance.
Juddy said when he moved over that part of the reason was the opportunity to play in the blockbuster games. Well, this is about as big as they've been for Carlton in recent years, and he is a big-game player - arguably this could be our grand final (although with some luck the game against North in round 20 will be as we aim for a finals berth). I fully expect a Judd-like effort this week, and Fev is due for a bag, too...

fev loves the big stage, exspecially against collingwood, so he should get aleast 6-9 goals, thats wat i believe, he is ova due!
eddie loves the pies/blues games, so id exspect him to play a blinder, providing he plays!!
Judd will tear collingwoods midfield apart on sunday, with a 37 possesion game, 2 goals B.O.G performance.
CH7 will be running commentary..
Well then that sucks so I guess if we do win we wont be seeing the song, or interviews.

Issue is getting serious airplay now. 7 will do something about it.

You are right that is asking too much from a station that throws in 5 minutes of ads after every goal. And then cuts of the interviews and don't show the team song .... WANKERS

will be back ? u forgetting them losing 2 day premierships to the lions & 1 nite to port i think ?
never really left them, can still pull out a big game/finals loss on cue - like getting beaten by us earlier this year.

I hope we aren't getting carried away, remember last season it's scary how similar this is. We played the Hawks coming of a good win in front of a packed Dome and then all of a sudden all our dreams were shattered to the tune of 100 points. So please lets not get confident, we have to keep a lid on it, the Pies are in great form they are a top 4 contender. They destroyed the Cats and I can just see them destroying us as well.
I just want to see Walshy's avatar re-enacted at the end of the game

Guys I know that it's kind of a similar situation to the Hawks game but there is one huge huge difference. The Hawks was a night game at the Dome, this is a day game at the G. Have a look at the stats :)

Well I know that we seem to love playing at the MCG it suits us more than the Dome, but still I am very worried that we are in for a massive let down, with depression and suicidal thoughts next week.
