GOING GREEN FOR RED P PLATE DRIVERS
Victoria's new graduated licensing system is introducing new driver licensing rules. These new rules mean that a probationary driver will have to display either a red or green P plate.
If you obtained your probationary licence before 1 July 2008, you will have to change your P plate from red to green.
A green P plate driver has fewer restrictions such as how many passengers they can carry.
Attach your green P plates so they are clearly visible on your vehicle, and make sure you do not use them before 1 July 2008.
----------------
I recieved green plates today and boy i was confused. Most of us would have realised that these rules wouldn't affect current P platers but it has.
I thought that we would stay on the red for the 3 years. But for those who got their L's after 1st July 07, that it would be a green plate for 1 year then red for 3 more but it has been switched around now.
So red for 1 year then green for 3 years.
For current P platers we only have to put them on for the remainder of our 3 years. We are still on the old system but we just change the plates

Why, we still get the same things we had from before except with beautiful green plates.;) It's not like im on the new system.
If you want sucked in bag the new ones who go for their L's now. 120 HRS of COMPULSORY DRIVING and 10hrs of night driving before they can apply for their P plates.
120 x $30/hr = $3600 Wouldn't wana be paying that!!

Surely that refers to logbook hours signed off by a licenced driver?
Expecting people to get 120 hours of paid lessons is a bit much.

Yeh, you could just get your old man/lady to teach ya then get a instructor to help you finish up. That way you save loads of dosh.
Don't know if its compulsory to do it with an instructor now a days.

Procrasitination is a wonderful thing, and it has screwed me, in that I'm now under the new system.
Essentially you have to do 120hrs of driving. It doesn't matter how you get that.
The thing is, it tries to bind people with the honour system, but some people (not me of course:p) will just get their parents to sign off that they did 120hrs.
The real bitch is the price of petrol
"Mum? can you just sign 120 hours worth of driving lessons?"
"Only for a massage"
"Bitch.

Go Green for Footy and Go Green for Hooning (I mean Driving ;)).
I'm in the same boat as you GR. When I saw the Green envelope tonight, I assumed we were bound by the new restrictions, but glad we're not. I must say the green is quite appealing. :thumbsu:

Question guys. I'll be going for my P's after the 1st of July this year but i got my L's before 1st of July 2007. I've had a alot of lessons with the instructor and will be probably going for my p's sometime during july. Will i be restricted by the passenger rule still and will i have to prove 120 hours or are those rules only for the people that got their L's after 1st of July 2007?

i got my green P plates today, i was confused at first thinking only the new p plate drivers after july 1st would be on them....
i guess it was smart by them giving all P platers b4 july 1st the green Ps as you cannot buy them and therefore the ppl after july 1st that were meant to be on the green could of easily just baught red plates and made it look like they had them b4 july 1st.
i think they look goood

I have a better way of disposing of the red ones, use them to put the green ones on them so you can move them around. That's what im going to do.

You'll be on the new P system. Yes you will be restricted on the 1 passenger because you are getting your P's after the 1st July 08.
The L's rule is only for people who get them after the 1st July 07.

WTF is Rudd supposed to do about petrol?
Oil is running out. It's price is determined internationally. There's not much Rudd can do about it.

You do know how much revenue from each tank of fuel goes straight to the government as part of the excise tax, right?
Not much Rudd can do indeed.

isnt it something like 30c per litre that goes straight to the government?
if the case we would be paying around 1.20-1.30 p.l

Its something like 37.7 cents plus 10% GST so that in this situation is 17 cents.
The problem is that demand is simply exceeding supply and they could pump more oil out but when something is a necessity they can limit the supply to maximise there profits.
Also factors like the need to improve infrstructure and increase labour. The thing saving us is the rising US dollar as we buy it in US dollars.
