View Full Version : I would not care if they took QB game away from us

I'm sick to death of Collingwood getting applause for their 'charity' in allowing us to play them on QB as our home game. Shit, even Vlad was singing their prasies this week. The match as seen as a charity case and I hate it, our most despised team actually is inidfferent enough towards us to pour money in our pockets once a year. ____ that! I find it somewhat embarrassing that our supporters build this game up as the "game we actually go to the football for the year" and it really is just another game for the Magpies. Its the game illustrates the fickle nature of our fans. I hope Jim Stynes looks towards bringing in a new era of self-reliance amongst the club. We DON'T need the Queens Birthday game to survive and if we do?? we might as well pack it in now.
As someone who thinks its absurd that Collingwood and Essendon have a monopoly on ANZAC Day, similarly I see no reason why QB should be ours or Collingwoods.

Don't get me wrong I like attending the event. I just hate the guilt-trip that goes along with it, from Collingwood and the AFL. If Collingwood supportesr are disinterested in the event, give it another club with high numbers, Ess or Richmond.
I said in another thread that it should be Melbourne v Carlton and called the Ron Barassi (Jr) cup.
Just waiting for the filth brigade to get up in arms about it.;)

Sorry mate, but you do realise that you've hosted the game on every occasion since 2001? We don't lose anything in terms of revenue if the game is pulled. We turn up, rain, hail or shine, no matter where. So in that case, the ball is in your court, but I don't think that it'd be the best idea, from your perspective, to chop the game. When you are back up leading the ladder the crowds will again be boosted (a la 2006).

I can't see us giving up the huge amount of money we make from this game! I'd be happy for us to play someone else (Collingwood might pull out if Mick has his way) but I can't see anyone else giving us the home game everytime. An option could be we go to the AFL and say let us play Carlton on QB as a home game with Carlton being compensated by a Friday night game against us in the first 4 rounds giving them a solid crowd and good exposure. However I think 14 other clubs wouldn't be too happy about it.

very rarely do i agree with a Collingwood fan but you're dead right.
At this point it would be stupid to let this game slip past us...
When bails builds this winning culture and our club can continue to reduce this debt... you watch the crowds fly in... but in order for this to happen MelbourneFC needs the support and commitment from every one of you. Vote with your feet people.

i dont understand the AFL sometimes... they say we've got this massive debt and that we need to eradicate it... but then they threaten to take away our biggest money making game... i dont really think the qb game is that good either... but it does get money which we desperately need
the same can be said for the fixture... i know we dont pull big crowds but why do they constantly give us sunday games and not sat or fri night games... whilst teams like collingwood get heaps and have a monopoly on the 'blockbuster' games and are clearly benefitting from it

If the club starts making money - then we can give it away, but we need games like those for pure spondooli.
