View Full Version : Carlton tipped to finish 9th

Went on to a website where you can predict victories for each team and by a rough margin to determine where they will finish. I did it and found that carlton will finish 9th. This is, however, without considering percentages (as i just set each win/loss to 6 points). This could be a major factor as this predictor put us 9th via percentage to Adelaide.
This is, however, tipping them to win against:
- Collingwood
- Essendon
- Richmond
- St.Kilda
- Port Adelaide
- Brisbane
Only unlikely victory there is against Brisbane at the GABBA. Other than that we should be looking good heading in to the other 5. But finishing off the season 11W-11L would be a real confidence boost for the boys.

Give it a shot, its great fun to play around with :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Still be happy with 8 wins for the season.
Hopefully we can account for Richmond and Essendon quite comfortably to pay them back for last time and I would like to win 1 and hopefully 2 of Port, Coll, St.K.
But I wouldn't count us out of the Sydney, Bulldogs and North games either.
The draw really shows that we need to win some big games to make the 8 and how costly it was to drop games to the Dons and Tiges.
If we beat them both we would be sitting 7-4 and probably would of made the 8 but in the end just making up the numbers but the experience of playing 1 or maybe 2 finals games is invaluable.

Funnily enough, at the start of the year I tipped us to win 11 games.

I tipped us to win between 8 and 10. Currently on 5, with a few winnable games coming up, I could be right on the money.
I would have loved to be wrong though. I have a feeling the early season losses to Essendon and Richmond will be very costly in the end.

Should've won both of those games. It would've been nice sitting 7-4 right about now...

We would be huge chances of finals footy in 2008. Alas, it wasn't to be. Hopefully we notch up a couple of victories over the next few rounds though.

I've got us at 11-11 too but we are in the 8!:D
However my hate of Port have dropped them to 13th:o with NM dropping out...
Hope it all happens as i'll get 8 tips each round and we'll make the finals:thumbsu:

If we defeated Rich & Ess earlier in the leavin us 7-4 after 11 I would pencil us in for 8th but oh well.
I wanted 8 at the start of the year but having 5 with 11 matches to go i think 9-10 isnt out of the question.
give me a 9-13 season and i'll take it.

I think we will get nine wins unless Judd hits 100% and goes off with Fev firing and walker etc returning we could sneak into the 8 with luck.

it may be a bit far fetched at the minute, but i've got us in with at least a chance against the following:
Collingwood (on a high from last week and a win already this year against them)
Essendon (shoud have beaten them the first time)
Richmond (who wouldn't)
St.Kilda (their first game at the MCG for the year)
Sydney (ok way far fetched but hey....)
Adelaide (we've shown in the past we can play good footy in adelaide)
Port Adelaide (we even beat them at the dome last year)
North Melbourne (are they really that scary?)
thats almost enough to get us in the 8. i know a bit far fetched on one or two but one can dream cant one??? :)

That will put us 13-9 and be dissapointed for dropping Ess & Rich earlier in the year costing us top 4 berth :p.
I see where you're coming from, we need to knock off a couple of big teams to be worthy of a spot and that is the way it will go looking at our draw..
If we are good enough we will make it.
Thought we'd end up somewhere between 6-10 wins. Nothing that I have seen this year so far makes me want to change my mind.

i agree with everything except the sydney game. I just reckon they kill young teams with their tough and slow game style, and we haven't beaten them for ages.
Off topic a bit but i reckon sydney are up there with Geelong and better then Bulldogs and Hawks they have all been there before play a game style suited to finals... reckon there a good bet for the flag at $11;)

thats great odds if ya ask me.
swans are going under the radar so far.
the swans are much better than the dogs, = to hawks and just a bit under the cats. (but hey, who knows what carlton are going to do, we could play collingwood first week of the finals, how big would that be 90k+++)
The next 4 rounds are huge for us. If we can get Richmond and Essendon, and either St Kilda or Collingwood, the year becomes very interesting for us. 8 wins, with 7 games to go, and probably needing 12 to make finals.
Of the last 7, we play:
Sydney (at home)
Bulldogs (at TD)
Adelaide (away)
Port (home)
North (home)
Brisbane (away)
Hawthorn (home)
The only real 'win' is against Port in Melbourne (we match up well on them too, and their season should be over by then). But I can definitely see us snatching one against either Sydney in Melbourne, or the Bulldogs (who I'm still not convinced are going to sustain their form). If we do, that North game will be massive - an '8-point' game against the team likely to be around 8th spot, and clearly our biggest game in 7 years.
We would then head into rounds 21 and 22, games we wouldn't expect to win, with our finals chances on the line - a win in either might get us in. That would be absolutely enormous for our young list - those games would basically be finals experience (playing finals quality opposition with everything on the line). And with Juddy and Fev, who knows... plus the chance that Hawthorn might have their spot sewn up and be resting players... we can only dream!

What? If anyone is under the radar, it is the Bulldogs.
I mean, look at some of their wins. Beaten 4th placed Adelaide, beaten 1st placed Hawthorn and inflicted their only loss of the season, and their biggest win this season, well in my pov, is their win against Sydney in SYDNEY in round 8.
Can't believe people still don't rate the Dogs. They're the team that I'm least looking forward to playing for the rest of the season.
IMO the most important games if we are to make the 8 are against the other contenders for the bottom part of the 8 (Adel, PA, St K and NM). Beating the Pies would put us in with a massive chance.
Rd 15 v Saints @ MCG
Rd 18 v Adel @ AAMI
Rd 19 v Port @ Dome
Rd 20 v NM @ Dome.
We need to win the games we are expected to win in the next month (Ess & Rich) to have a shot but it will come down to the 3 week period between Rd 18 and 20 against the other contenders to see if we get in. Mini Finals / 8 point games like this can only be good for the boys and on current form i'm quietly confident :D
First things first thou - smash those pies! Go Blues!
With 5 wins already in our pocket i would now be disappointed with only 8 for the season. 10 wins would keep us moving forward, to make it to the finals would be an enormous bonus!!

Aparently Port are the "best side outside the 8", and then you have Freo, who are "one of the most dangerous sides in the comp".
The Tiges might still fancy their chances of finishing 9th as well. :thumbsu:

I did the predictor and got Carlton finishing 12th with a hard run home. Couple of the games were 50/50 tho so I could see us finishing 9-11th easily.
The interesting thing I noticed was that the Saints have an easy run home, and of all the teams outside of the 8, they are most likely to jump in and replace North Melbourne. I had them finishing 6-7th depending on the St kilda/Pies clash.

I did it and ended up making the 8 with only 10 wins and a poor percentage, and after losing this weekend.
I had us beating St Kilda which is a challenge considering how they have our measure, Port in Melbourne and the Roos which is another huge challenge.
So I had us beating: St Kilda, Essendon, Richmond, Port and the Roos and losing to Hawthorn, Sydney, Adelaide, Dogs, Brisbane and probably the red hot Magpies.
How I rate our chances for each game currently.
Collingwood - 40-60
Essendon - 80-20
Richmond 60-40
St Kilda 40-60
Sydney 30-70
Bulldogs 30-70
Adelaide 20-80
Port 60-40
North 40-60
Brisbane 10-90
Hawthorn 10-90

I had them finishing 6-7th depending on the St kilda/Pies clash.I might be buying into some unconvincing Saints form but I had them going 9-13 (if we can upset them). Mind you I did see scope for them to lose at Subi twice as the Eagles do have flashes of form over there and are improving quickly and Freo have been very competitive despite losing.

I'm not fully expecting to make finals, especially given out last 2 games. That's ok though we know where we stand but, I'd just like to sit in the 8 for a week or two just to know what it feels like. It'd give alot of hope and certainly brighten the place up. 9th would be good. It's a part of development, moving up the ladder finishing there and getting a "sh1t" draft pick but you have to do it at some stage. I'd be happy with that. I'm thinking between 9-11 wins given our run home so I might sit in the middle and go 10.
Another way of looking at it is that we're 5-3 from the last 8 games. How I would've loved to have gone into the first few games not underdone. That's possibly the finals right there. If we're close though one can't be too disappointed.

I think tipping against the Saints outside of Vic is not a silly move.
In current form I'd be tipping against them here most weeks too.
10 wins might give us a shot, but the Roos will be hard to dislodge from the 8.
All it takes is for a team to click and anything is possible!!
Look at our last 8 weeks; there have been glimpses that we are clicking and gelling. Also the fact we had to keep changing team balance due to injury didn't help, but we managed to at least win 5 games in the last 8 weeks.
If the last quarter against Port was close to final piece of the puzzle, and we know on potential how dangerous our boys can be when on song, then don't lose hope that our team may surprise you in the next 11 rounds.
Also in the past few we'd have never won a game in the last quarter, especially in the wet, and we did against Port. This shows fitness and desire... has our fitness staff planned for us to start peaking now???
The loss against Richmond and Essendon earlier in the year were mainly attributed to fitness and team balance... and I think we've improved in those regards.
I think we're a shot of possibly winning 8 of the next 11! We are a chance in EACH game... 2 sides come out to play... we show hunger, desire, passion and anything is possible!
GO BLUES
We would match up well against the dogs
We beat them last year mainly due to the fact that we stretched there backline and there backline hasnt changed much.
If we get the midfield supply going then im sure we will put up a good fight and push them all the way

Yeah, it would have been very nice indeed!
But in all honesty, we're not really ready for finals just yet. I dont mind waiting until next season.
Like most others, i was hoping for 8 wins this year, and if we manage that, then i will be satisfied with how we're travelling.
To lose to Richmond and Essendon though...one can only lament.

i will tell you whats even more interesting knowing they have already peaked 2 weeks ago and will perhaps flatten out a bit, Collingwood have a serious run home also and may have some work to do to sew up a finals spot if they do go under this week. And surprisingly (must be a mistake) but they actually play 2 of the last 3 interstate against the "best team outside the 8" in Port and the "most dangerous team" in Freo.

6 and 10.....:D:D Why don't you just say between 1 and 22 wins??
:p
I had us finishing 8th with 10 wins ahead of NM and Saints on 9 wins. I had us for wins against Ess, Rich, Stk, Port and NM.
However, cant remember the last time someone finished on 10 wins and made the finals (maybe Brissy in '95)

10 wins would be fantastic.....and if that sneaks us 8th spot, sobeit.
But if we end up 9th, 10th or 11th......the prize is still reasonable!
