View Full Version : Gardy
The major positive I thought came from last night was that Gardy matched if not bettered Primus and proved himself one of the best ruckmen in the competition. With a bit of luck he will be an AA in the next two years.
Just a question, has Gardy got an All Australian yet. He's been good enough too but i dont think he has yet??????

He's not good enough yet. He isn't quite in the class as Primus, Darcy, and King. I'm tipping next season or the one after.
If you look at his career so far, he gets into good form then goes out injured for a lengthy period of time. Pretty hard to be AA that way.

I'm not sure how good Gardy's game was last night.
He worked very hard all night, but a lot of his palm work was ineffective. Primus pretty much controlled play at the stoppages all night.

Yeah I though Primus came out on top of that contest too myself, not by a long way mind you. Conditions werent ideal either but I think Primus has had a mental edge over Gardiner ever since he ****ed Gardy's shoulder a few seasons back at a ruck contest.
i agree about Primus having the mental edge over Gardy
i thought Gardy did alright in the conditions tho, funny how we're talking about him being AA in the next year or two and another thread has him as being a certain trade ;)

I agree 100%; I thought Primus was just that bit better in all departments, but Gardie was not disgraced.

Besides, the other thread is a hypothetical. I still stand by what I said there. If in fact, it turns out to be true that Gardiner's attitude doesn't fit within Woosha's boundaries, then he should be traded. There is a lot more to football success than what we see out on the field. A champion team is better than a team of champions.

I also agree with what you say, if he does have an attitude that doesnt fit with what the team is trying to achieve then Woosha has every right to decide his future.
I can just imagine a decision like that coming back to bite us on the arse tho
I thought he came out even with Primus on sunday. He was better than Primus around the ground and kicked a goal but the problem was in the stoppages. It seemed that Gardiner controlled most of the taps but couldnt find a WC player. Im not sure if that is all his fault as the WC midfielders were constantly beaten at the stoppages.
Bodes well for the future though and if he can string a whole season together without going down injured he will certainly come into contention for AA in the next couple of years.
He definitely should not be traded. He should be put through a long hard pre-season (one that is physically and emotionally tough). Im sure if you can get his off field problems under controll then you can get a brilliant ruckmen who can win games for you off his own back.

I still think Gards should be classified in the 'untradables' list ATM. Apart from Cox, we have no 2nd tier ruckman who could take over the reins. McDougall and Seaby need a season or two of AFL experience before we can think about offloading one of our star players.

Frustrating though it is that most of Gardy's taps go to opposition midfielders, I think it's largely the fault of our midfielders not reading him. We have to improve that area at stoppages.
