Heard from someone who has very good sources that Gardy will be traded to Carlton at the end of the year.
Worsfold sees him as disruptive and a bad influence to the other players.
I have heard from eyewitnesses about his off field relationships with bad citizens.
Now I dont want him to go. I see him as our MVP. The Eagles would be better off counselling him than trading him.
But, If this does occur what do we get for him. I would expect the number one draft pick plus a player. I heard in the commentary recently that the Eagles should chase Doering who is a young tall defender. I know nothing of him.
Just before you start thinking that this is nonsense and too far fetched let me remind you that Toddy and Malthouse got rid of many players for their off field behaviour. At the end of the day we want a club like St Kilda have been noted for in the past.
We could also use the pick to select Headland. Plus use our other first round pick to pick up a youngster. (One for today and one for tomorrow)
God knows we would be short of a Ruckman. Cox isny up to Gardys standard. But, McDougall and Gaspar could step up to be good tall forwards. If they can stay fit.
Again, I dont favour it. But this is from a good source
GO EAGLES!
Why would WCE make a statement only a week or so ago that Gardy was untradeable if this was the situation?
Doesn't make sense to me.
But hypothetically we could trade him to Freo for JL and Haselby.
I could live with it.
Would have to get some pretty damn good picks and/or players in return though.
The way I see Gardy in the team is as a mobile ruckman who covers CHB through to CHF, mainly cause we lack mobile talls there. If McDougall is groomed at CHF, the need for Gardy will become less and we will need more of a pure ruckman. Same applies at CHB with Gaspar who is also very mobile.
Like I said, I could live with it, specially if we got the #1 or #2 draft pick plus a good player.
pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase don't go Gardy.
He's such a good footballer.
But if he does go, nothing less than number 1 pick from Carlton PLUS a good footballer and if we can bargain well another young promising footballer.

If he does indeed have an attitude problem and bad infulence on other players, he should be given the flick. Sometimes these sort of players can do damage to the team that retracts from their on field performance - which means they aren't as a valuable player as they seem. For some reason, counselling doesn't often work.
If Woosha does have a trade in mind, he would be playing his cards close to his chest. He wouldn't be letting on that he wants to get rid of Gardiner because it will reduce his value. A rumour or two would give other clubs a sniff. They will come looking once trade time comes.
If we were to let gardiner go, we would want to get Headland and another pick (3rd roundish) or player for him. They are both established former #1 draft picks and have similar ability. Gardiner would have a better market value because good ruckmen are harder to come by.
Will be interesting to see whether there is any truth to the rumour.

And John Kizon could give him the phone numbers of a few mates in Melbourne to set him on his way over there...

I hope nothing comes from these rumours.
Gardy's been at the club for six years now, is one of the better ruckman in the league, and he'll only get better as he approaches his mid-twenties.
Also, once Gaspar and McDougall (who I think will become an even better player then Gardy) finally get their bodies right, we'll have three very big, very mobile blokes, that can cause other clubs some real headaches as they rotate through the ruck and forward line.

I dont buy into the bad influence thing myself. Last year when we were getting flogged continuously, he was one of a handful of players who slogged their guts out every single game no matter what. I think his attitude, onfield at least, is one of the better ones on the team. As for his off field behaviour, well I cant really comment, but im sure it really couldnt be bad enough to warrant a trade of such a talented, key figure at our club.
If Gardy is to be traded, then we cant afford to let him go without at least getting the #1 pick and maybe another player
The club has been grooming him since 96 and we cant afford to let him go for nothing
if carlton give up their number 1 and 2 draft picks the members will burn optus oval to the ground.

maybe another player???? i would be thinking DEFINETALY another player and MAYBE another two players along with the number one pick in the draft, and if it isn't carlton who end up looking for gardy, then they had better get the number one pick of carlton to trade for gardy otherwise no deal.

Gardiner for Hay sounds feasable. Apparently Hay has a 'get out clause' in his contract, and hasn't been in that great form this year. Hawthorn also need a ruckman, as apart from Rehn, they lack a ready made player in that position. Maybe Gardiner+2nd rd pick for Hay and Chick?
If he goes to Carlton, I'd expect a bit more for him than Headland. As good as dessie is, he's not a developed key position player. Dessie is a midfielder -- a good one admitedly -- but a midfielder nevertheless, and they come along more often than ruckmen.
Gardiner for J'Lo? Sounds good, though Gardi is better than J'Lo. We'd need something else (and not his brother either). 2nd round pick at the very least.
I guess every player is tradeable if the right offer comes up.
Francou and Tredrea for Cuz and Harding........I'd look at it!!!

As for Gardy....i refuse to talk about it as i just dont believe all the hype, he will be in the Gold and Blue next season, dont worry about that.

Well I guess the rest of the competition would be happy - although I think burning the place to the ground would have very little effect on attendances!
Seriously though we'd want #1 and a player - but who do Carlton have to offer?

Hay has get out clause in 2004
Hmmm nicey trades\
Carlton: no.1 draft pick and Andrew McKay to Brisbane
Brisbane: gives Headland and Beau Mcdonald to Eagles
Eagles: gives Gardiner to Carlton
or
Carlton: no.1 draft pick and Luke Livingstone(excellent key position player) and Jim Plunkett to Eagles
Eagles: Gardiner and 3rd rnd draft pick
or
Eagles: keep Gardiner
It said in the WC vs Port match report on page 5 of The Game that Worsfold was annoyed about the rumours that WC wanted to trade Gardiner. He also said blokes of Gardiner's type don't grow on trees, so they are good sign this apparent rumour isn't true.
