Good news.
It will be very good to have him back in contention for the last half of the year.

This is an interesting one.

Is Presti in our best 22 anymore?

Wakelin has been brilliant and probably looks like this will be his final year and whilst Presti is only 30, I think he is no certainty to remain on our list beyond this season.

Whilst his recovery is finally back on track, his body's inability to stand up is a concern and there is also the notion that Presti could deprive a youngster such as JA or Thoolen for example the opportunity to make one of the key defensive posts their own.

What do others think about this, once Presti is fit and available again?

I think those boys in the VFL need all the help they can get

Presti in, Wakes out - When Presti is healthy.

Presti also to go on next year to keep the pressure off Brown a little longer - Look at Goldsack for an example of 2nd year blues.

Agree 100%

Get Presti right for one last year in 2009 when Wakes calls it a day.

It's definitely good news, but I don't think it's at all necessary to rush Presti back into the side. The backline is looking better every week, and I'm not sure this would be the case if it was to see immediate changes.

But I guess the earlier in the year they do make the change(s), the better... as far as finals go anyway.

You guys are funny? You've just gotten into the footy in recent years huh? Automatic assumption that you always play the youngsters with the potential huh?

Incorrect. Screw potential, screw development, thats what the VFL is for. The AFL is for the best of the best. Prestigiacomo is still in the Collingwood 22 and I find it so disrespectful how some people have already forgotten that. Just 2-3 seasons ago he was labelled as the best FB in the country, now he isn't even good enough to play a game when fit?

If a youngster like JA or Thoolen cannot make a spot their own by themselves then I dont want them on my list, Presti has every right to demand a position when on fire and should get one over anyone if firing, and if JA or Thoolen aren't as good as him, then they've got some more time in the VFL to work on their games.

BTW his body's inability to withstand? Are you serious? He has had the one injury which has taken a bit longer to overcome. His body is fine, matter of fact, every other part of his body would be fresh as a daisy (including his shoulders) so he'd be a perfect inclusion for the Pies later on this season.

Im honestly sick of the way people throw away old players like these when they've been missing for a while, it shows your lack of understanding of our game, and a lack of appreciation for a great of this proud FC.

As we know Presti is the master negator. I could see him initially being brought in just for special jobs, like JBrown, Fev, richo, Pav, who we don't otherwise have a reliable matchup for (who does?).
Eventually if he regains prev form and fitness, will probably be pencilled in weekly. I think at least for this year, it could allow Brown to sometimes be swung into the forward line when rocca or Trav are out or having bad ones. Next year should have other options for tall forwards.

for Presti to come back into the team one of Brown or Wakelin have to go.. given their form, he wont be walking straight back in, and will likely play in the VFL.

if JA or Thoolen are ready to be played and are seen to be a better option than Presti, they should be given the shot before him.

if that decision has to be made it should have nothing to do with history the decision should be based on what's best for the team

I reckon come the pointy end of the season Presti can be invaluable.

A good chance that N Brown will feel the pinch at some point given that it's his first year at this level and what better time to be able to call upon a reliable and experienced defender.

Some people have memories that don't seem to extend further back than the last month I reckon.

He has proven himself over many years, but some supporters would rather opt for a kid like Anthony shoring up the defence in a final.

Not for me.

I'm a little more reserved, Presti was pretty fit at the end of last year, wasn't he? I mean, as fit as anybody is in an AFL career, about 90%? He was finding it hard to break into the team then. I think having him back will certainly help, and is great news, but I don't think he'll be rushed back into the starting 22 just yet.
