View Full Version : Sunday's team
2008 AFL Premiership Season – Round 12
Collingwood v Carlton
Sunday 15 June 2008
MCG, 2:10pm
Collingwood
B: Heath Shaw, Shane Wakelin, Tarkyn Lockyer
HB: Martin Clarke, Nathan Brown, Heritier O’Brien
C: Ben Johnson, Scott Burns, Rhyce Shaw
HF: Leon Davis, Travis Cloke, Shane O’Bree
F: Alan Didak, Nick Maxwell, Paul Medhurst
Foll: Josh Fraser, Dane Swan, Dale Thomas
Int (from): Chris Bryan, Ryan Cook, Shannon Cox, Scott Pendlebury, Sharrod Wellingham, Ben Reid, Cameron Wood
In: Pendles, Wood and Reid
Out: none yet
I hope:
Pendles for Cox (too many short steps can do that in the VFL)
Reid for Cook (unlucky, but would like to see another tall forward to stretch their defense)
Wood for Bryan (again unlucky but see Wood as great advantage over Carlton's ruck brigade and frees up Josh too)
Thoughts?

leave bryan against his old team, would be cruel to drop him after his tremendous work
pendles definately in, for cox or cook....hmm.. i agree with you would like to see reid in, so cox/cook out.
like, pendlebury

Theres no way both Wood and Reid will be playing against Carlton. Bryan has been in good form, and he wont get dropped against Carlton, he would be too valuable, emotionally, to be dropped, and its not like he hasn't played well. Plus, his grunt would be more useful to intimidate a young Carlton compared to Wood.
I don't think Pendlebury will play, but hopefully he is in for Cox.
As for Reid, well you can't have Reid, Fraser and Bryan/Wood in the same forward line with Medhurst and Cloke.
My changes are;
Pendlebury for Cox.
If Pendles doesn't come up, then Reid for Cox. Thats it.

It's Centrals Football Club, there's no love for Carlton here!
I'd like to see Cloke, Reid, Fraser and Wood all in the same side, would really test the talls of Carlton. Whom I don't rate at all.
Bryan might be more of a physical presence but he's only Cameron Cloke with dark hair and good shoulders. Wood on the other hand should go well against Carlton's rucks and would allow Josh to get forward.
Cloke, Reid and Josh with Neon, Medhurst and Didak at their feet sounds like a very good foward line.

wood wasnt too great against carlton last time, and bryan hs been our form ruckman for the past month.
Bryan wont be dropped, wood may come in but it wont be for bryan

It's a strong looking lineup with the extra big men, Wood and Reid. I think Pendles will play, which means Cook goes out. The others on the bench l think will be Reid, Wellingham and Bryan.

Bunch of bloody conservatives.
Putting my neck on the line here, but I reckon if Reid comes into the side he's going to kick a bag of 4 just to prove a) himself and b) that form in the VFL is no barometer of a player on the big stage.
I love the confidence that comes with a single malt.

Obviously Fraser is in doubt, that's why Wood on bench - surprised Bryan is named on the bench also, I think Fraser will be rested.
Would be good to see Ried have another go if they think he's improved enough. He's had plenty of time to think about it so hopefully has improved his marking out front and hardness. Sooner they get him up to standard the better, could be an extremely valuable and versatile player, eg could give him Richo type roles on wings etc with his speed.
I think that would still leave one more which would be Cox or Cook, if Pendles doesn't play. Must be very doubtful if he's named on the bench.
If Pendles doesn't play it will be a very good test and a very dangerous game - if he does play (and is 100% fit) you can pencil in the 4 points now.

I am a big fan of Maxwell but last time we had the scum MM put Maxwell up front and it did not work for us I wish MM would leave the team structure alone for this game..
Pendals / Cook
Reid / Cox
