This poll is kind of in response to this thread: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=454331

The OP of that thread stated these rules for opinions:

Voss, Lappin & Black (of the triple Premiership period)
vs.
Kerr, Cousins & Judd (05-06 period)
vs.
Ablett Jnr., Corey & Bartel (07-Present)

Whats your pick?
We're taking purely on field performance into equation,
do not take off-field positives &
negatives nor leadership abilities into equation.
Do not add your own extra threesome AND/OR ruckman and do not swap and change players from that period.

It's pretty simple.
Results should be interesting!!

Please keep responses in the thread on the main board.

i dont know why these polls even exist.

all it tells you is the ratio of Lions:Geelong:WCE supporters that post on big footy.

How does the Geelong group even get mentioned on the same poll?

Not many people have voted.

The polls board doesn't get a lot of attention.

Voss, Lappin and Black were awesome.

No disrepect to the eagles trio but Lappin/Voss/Black are a class above. Throw in Aker,Power and Headland and you can see why The Lions are the greatest team that will ever be.

i have to say that the lions trio are the best only because they took thier team to three premierships... a norm smith and one should have been if they didn't do it at 3qtr time... closely followed by the weagles then geelong

It never ceases to amaze me how so many people on BigFooty assess such things with the most basic and fallible logic.

The lions trio didn't take that team to three flags. The lions trio, PLUS Justin Leppitsch, Chris Johnson, Mal Michael, Jason Akermanis, Jonathan Brown, and Alistair Lynch took that team to 3 flags.

The eagles won one flag, but the next best 7 names stack up dismally compared to the lions' names I've listed above.

Imagine the West Coast premiership side of '06, with Alistair Lynch and a young J. Brown up forward instead of Q Lynch and A. Hansen. With Leppistch, Michael and Chris Johnson down back, with Aker to compliment them through the middle, and with with players like the Scott twins, McCrae and Pike running around to give them incredible eveness across the board. That team would win 5 flags in a row.

Yes, the Lions of '01 - '03 were one of the great teams, but can we please stop immortalising individual players just because they were part of the collective success?

Yeah you're right, why would you speak so highly of 3 x Brownlow medalists, another guy who placed and a Norm Smith medal.

Because you are a Lions fan you have interpreted my post through a simple black and white perspective and thus failed to understand my point. In no way did I degrade the merits of the three Lions' players in question, though it's clear you think I have.

Exactly, you 'read' it. Do you know the difference between listening and hearing?

The Lions' trio were/are exceptional players. As you said, there are two brownlows and a norm smith in that lot, and probably quite a few B&F's. They are a long way ahead of any other midfield trio of the last 10 years, except for Judd, Cousins and Kerr, who were so good that they virtually single handedly took their team to a flag. The Brisbane trio won three, admittedly, but they had help from another 7 or 8 phenomenal players. What I'm accusing people therefore is of overrating the impact of a few individual players, on the basis of the team glory in which they participated.

You're having trouble understanding this because you barrack for Brisbane and therefore won't make that initial concession that Judd, Cousins and Kerr may actually have been better than Black, Lapping and Voss.

if i take brisbane from 01-04, west coast from 05-07 and geelong from 07-08, here's the order in which i'd rate each player:

1-judd
2-ablett
3-cousins
4-voss
5-black
6-lappin
7-kerr
8-bartel
9-corey

and that's just confirmed for me that the west coast trio were the best followed by brisbane.

but the things with brisbane is you could add other players in there like akermanis and power who wold be just as good.

That's probably how I'd have it as well, funnily enough. Positions 3 - 5 however are very close.
