You all have to learn to let go of the fallacy of criticising draft decisions merely by the fact that one player was taken 1-3 spots before a stand out player. The problem isn't that we didn't pick up Dal Santo, the problem is that we picked up Richard Cole and not a player who ended up being part of our side going forward, of which there were plenty around the pick.

Too much Turtle Soup I'm afraid.
Mmmm.... now there's a way to get Brad Dick up to a decent size!! :D
He ate to much.....
And one of the worst decision makers I have seen play AFL.

Pretty sure Stanners was #21 and Cook #23 in the 2005 National Draft.

What a cracking draft... everybody talks about Hodge, Ball, Judd from this draft but what is often neglected in Jimmy Bartel.
Personally I would have him before the other three right now...

richard is now a very big man just lacked the discipline for afl.
Taking him 11 whilst Dal Santo went at 13, heck Brent Reilly at 12 even hurts, is up there with us having Pick 7 the other year, swapping that for pick 10 with the Hawks (Can't remember which actual players were traded) and saying we rated the first rounders that year about the same, only to see Jordan Lewis go at 7 and we got Egan at 10!
Oh what could have been!
And to think we originally had Pick 3 in 1999, only to trade it and Clinton King to Richmond for McKee and Pick 7 and then watch Pav go #4 and we selected Danny Roach #7 who played one game.
[Repeats Oh what could have been!]

Sadly both not too flash.
we've had our share of blunders but hopefully the tide is turning.

Probably not Sheedy's best recruiting decision in the past 5 years.
I'm with Stifler's Mom.
I mean, I agree with Stifler's Mom!
Jabso, everytime I mention Cole/NDS you spring to the defensive. I'm sorry, but they thought of Cole literally gives me the schits!
He is playing in the EDFL at Marbi I think.

Luke Molan would have been a player, broke his leg and never recovered.
The Dees recruit worse then us!

Thats right everyone Richard cole is at aberfeldie in the edfl....
And he's getting about the same amount of kicks as he did at essendon and collingwood = 0
. constantly injured
. unfit
. played only one game so far this year
at least i dont have to put up with watching him on national television anymore:thumbsd:
on the plus side 'abers' have recruited alot of young indiginous players through cole and assistant coach dean rioli. These talented players really have bought alot of class and run to the edfl:thumbsu:

Although we did take Dane Swan about 30 picks after them both. The Dal Santo miss isn't such a big one anymore. Very over rated.

You can hardly argue against picking Bartel as he is an unbelievable player but how could you go past Hodge? Hodge is freak and plus he is a real hard nut which is good. This year I'd rate Hodge as one of the best players in the league. Though you'd be more than happy with either.
