View Full Version : Has Embley lost his football brain?

Dunno how the game looked on TV, but watching it live I noticed Embley has NFI what he's doing on the field. For a senior player with 150+ games experience, Norm Smith & finals experience, he is more clueless than our rookies.
Continually over commits to the contest, makes poor disposal decisions and can't read the play. Sitting in the stands you can see where the ball is going to go, and time & again you see Embley running into a position that is just contrary to the flow of the play. Is it that he's just used to the midfield winning the ball and feeding him easy possessions?
The 20-25 touches a game he picks up are usually rubbish possessions on the HB line after all the hard work has already been done.
He's got runs on the board and is probably spared criticism on these boards and by the media, but he is quickly going down the same path as Fletcher did a couple years ago. Been moved to defence because Woosha doesn't trust him in the midfield anymore, and there are better options up forward. How long until its obvious he's shit in defence too?

Unfair.
Its not his fault that the ball is being pumped into his way 90% of the time, he does a good job on his opponent and I am fine with it. Remember this is his new role so it will take him time to come good. Its all about building his confidence back up.

That goal he kicked on the run was certainly rubbish...
But in all seriousness, I think it's safe to say that ALL the senior players look 10 times worse without Judd, Cousins & Kerr. That's purely because Superstars have that influence on the ppl around them, and now all the seniors are having to adapt to completely different roles from what they're used to.

So spot on the money it's not funny.
Braun, you know will give his all, Fletcher you know will find the ball.
Embley you know will make a mistake, squib a contest and run foward without working hard the other way.
Had a nice time riding on the back of Judd and Cousins, is now being shown up as the average footy player he is, as he was before one C.Judd came aboard.
I don't know about this. He was working really hard last night and causing the Bombers headaches by continuously moving forward to create opportunities. Now, would you still be saying the same thing if he had of slotted 3 of those goals instead of just 1? His ploy of moving forward was working well but it was his finishing that let him down. If he had of slotted more of those shots then the score board pressure would of been on Essendon and then you don't know what may of happened. Sure, all of the senior players, except maybe Lynch (yes, he is playing a different role this year) Selwood and Bones have been way down on form but Embley has been slowly finding some touch in the last few games. Sure he's still making some mistakes but I thought he did some clever things last night.

Neagle kicked 3. Monfires 1 and Reimers 1.
His opponent. I respect his run foward, it's his work the other way,or lack their of, which is concerning.
Buckley made mention of his tendency to run one way.
With all respect to Embers, a quick footy brain has never been his strength. Has always been prone to brain fades and stupid errors. He makes up for it with alot of good unpredictable stuff but one would hope he could improve certain aspects of his game.
