Guys, I thought Roughead really stood up last night. He really worked hard despite not being kicked to that often. He did a lot of running off the ball, chasing etc. I can think of a few times he spoilt in marking situations where he shouldn't have even made it to the contest - this guy is deceptively quick. I think he really kept us in the game with a lot of his hardwork. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:
Who's saying we rely on Buddy too much now eh?

roughie really took it upon himself to get something going up forward when buddy was getting smashed by Bock - just shows how much these guys are playing for eachother - and how they are going up the ground to get into the game when the ball isnt coming in all that often - or all that precisely!!!

Indeed. Roughead was dynamic last night.
On a side note, Gilham really impressed me last night. He constantly flys under the radar.

Stevie G may not be classy but he rarely makes a mistake with his disposal. Right up there in terms of spoils...and can hurt his opponent at the other end. I think this is the one area he can improve upon further and become a more dominant player, probably yielding more media spotlight.
Agree -Roughie was awesome and the back 3 were just fantastic as usual - unsung heroes.

On the Gilla subject, he just seems to indecisive all the time with his kicking which is a down point.
And roughy is a through and through star.

One of my favourite players. Really stood up last night, his work all over the ground for such a big guy was amazing. Team buddy all you like, roughie is good enough to step up to the plate.

One of our key players, seems to have come of age this year and a very important cog in our forward line.

13 kicks, 5 handpasses, 7 Marks and 3 goals 1.
Even though 3 or so of those are from the last five minutes it was a great game. Just showed how good he can be. But the thing about him is he is a great field kick, rarely misses a target and is so cool under pressure. If required he could play the Reiwoldt/Cloke hit up forward role.
I thought Willo also played his best game in a long time as well.

it is great that we have other players that can step up when buddy is getting tagged etc etc sometimes it does look like that are trying to just kick it to buddy but that maybe a ploy to confuse the opposition maybe :thumbsu:

Roughie was great and has been all year. Works really hard even if he doesn't mark the ball. Fights and scraps for every loose ball and often helps create goals even if he doesn't kick them.
What was especially pleasing was that he moved down the ground late in the game with aplomb. All the talk was about Buddy the midfielder, but Roughie got some good ball up the ground and deep defensively late in the game and used it with clinical efficiency. How many teams can say their two key power forwards can be thrown on the ball or into defense and be confident that they will be able to use the ball equally as well as any of the midfielders? None. What great flexibility we have.
As for Gilham, he has been disappointing for the past month. Constantly being outpointed by smaller forwards or resting mids. However, Saturday night saw him, and Murphy, both play absolutely rock solid games. Made all the right moves defensively and both looked completely assured when they had the pill.
All in all, we still have stability worries due to our injury list being a rotating door with in and outs at the moment, but our game/form seems to be just clicking back into place over the last match and a half. Good signs.

Well said MinerBoy. I like Gilham a lot but haven't thought much of his last few games. I was really worried that Tippett would be too good a mark for Gilham to control in his current form, but he beat him comfortably. Same with Murph, he had a good start to the year but hasn't been great since returning from injury, he was rock solid on the weekend though. Great performance from both of them.

100% agree :thumbsu::thumbsu:. Roughie was the lone soldier in the second and third quarter down forward. Kept us in it. Unfortunatly had a quiet last quater or he would have got the chocolates for mine.:)
Love the bloke.
The way he in particular, is happy to work in the shadows reminds me of the great 80's sides where we had curran, abbott, hall etc standing up when the KPP are not on song.

Roughie has been great all year and would have to have been in the running for BOG on Saturday night. His work at one stage running behind a loose ball and managing to keep it in front of him despite another player running hard the other direction showed real courage and poise. His field kicking is up there with Hodge.
Earlier in the year a few times I've seen what I thought was him yelling at team mates, when I first saw it I was concerned about this but now he is starting to shine as a leader and people respond well to a talking to from Roughie I think he is part of the leadership core of the club along side Hodge and Mitchell.

Willo had a sore leg (hamstring or calf, can't remember which). That's why he was looking to dish off when he could have had a shot at goal from a reasonable distance.
