In- Wood, Lonie, yes Lonie,
Out- Fraser
Reason for Lonie is because we all know the Dogs are a running side, Lonie has the kick and would be neat on that left wing.
Give Lonie 1 more shot.

Only to let Fraser know that games like that are unacceptable.
His best game this year was for the big V!
Keep Ben Reid in for the rest of the season. Because He will not develop in that VFL team
Why would you bring in Lonie?
We need more blokes who are prepared to put there body on the line not add more players who avoid the hard contest.

Actually, the Dogs have a lot of medium marking forwards - so I think we need to send a small out and bring in a medium. Their four small / med forwards are as good as ours. Maxwell will need to play on and beat a man.

What did Reid do wrong? His best game yet. Although he didnt goal 1, he did alot up the ground.
What did Reid do wrong? His best game yet. Although he didnt goal 1, he did alot up the ground.
Doesn't apply any defensive pressure whatsoever. Almost as bad as Rusling in this regard, and defensive pressure is the reason we win games.
It's nice that he was able to break loose for some cheap marks on the wing, but we don't need a lanky 6"6 player to do that - we have plenty of flankers who are much better defensively.

Out - Fraser, Wellingham, Maxwell
In - Wood, McCarthy, Dawes
Play Dawes down back, Wood to give Fraser a rest, as he must be injured. He seriously isn't that bad, what he showed today, is he?
McCarthy is a hard nut, goes in, and can be a extractor for us in the middle. Seems no one else can clear the footy from the centre.

I just can't watch any more Johnson clangers into the forward line. Time to give game time to someone who can execute the game's most fundamental skill.

15 Jun 2008, 20:14
Fraser is cleary injured and shouldn't be playing, if he isn't then there are no excuses. Davis also seems to be injured and should be given a rest to get it right so he can come back fit and ready to go.
Out: Fraser, Maxwell, Davis
In: Wood, Anthony, Stanley
Would also consider giving Stanley a run, he is our best clearance player in the VFL and we are getting smashed in the clearances at the moment in the 1's, time to see if he can cut it in the middle in the seniors and not played out of position, the equivilant would be like playing O'Bree in defense or up forward, give him a chance in the middle when his time comes

Murphy is their marking CHF who covers a great deal of ground. I would think that O'Brien is the best match-up for him, but feel that he is needed on JOhnson, who will play closer to goal. Would prefer Anthony on Murphy over each of Maxwell, Wakelin, Brown, etc.

He was in the backline against Geelong... But I agree, I think he is best suited to coming off a wing or even a defensive tagger job (ie putting him on Stevens or Murphy today would have been good). I think he is less suited to small defender on the goal line - and that is a position that we can rotate players like McCarthy, Iles, Cook, etc through.

There will not be wholesale changes this week.
Considering our VFL side got pumped too, changes look minimal.
Whilst Josh was disappointing, he will bounce back and is our #1 ruckman. His around the ground stuff will be vital against Hudson and Minson who really aren't that great around the ground.
I think Iles is probably the only one who put his hand up for selection this week from the VFL side and maybe J-Mac.
For those who have suggested Dawes are kidding themselves. MM will not simply give players games they have not warranted and going by Dawes' form, he has not been crash hot. Plus Reid was among the best.
In: Iles (been relatively solid and among the best many times this season, just unlucky not to break into the line-up. 34 disposals and 2 goals is good enough IMO for a spot in the seniors).
Out: Johnson (too predictable and disposal is still a worry with too many passes going over the top, may also be cited from reports when a Carlton player went down too).

When "development" is the be-all and end-all in the VFL side, getting pumped (in the VFL) will not prevent anyone from being given a senior opportunity. So far we've only won 2 VFL games, and yet we've played the likes of Toovey, Cox, Wellingham, Stanley, Cook, Reid, Anthony and Egan at various times.

Yes, I totally understand that TRS, however all those players you have mentioned have figured regularly among the best in the VFL when they have been considered for selection.
I just can't accept people's logic on giving a young kid a game if he doesn't deserve the opportunity i.e. Dawes.
If we were to 'blood the list' and build for next season then go for it, however, we are in contention for a finals campaign at the moment and can even push for a top 4 berth provided we get the results.

You're saying there'll be minimal changes because the VFL side got pumped. I'm saying there's been changes all year and the VFL side has been pumped on all but 2 occasions.
Anthony has been in the best consistently. McCarthy has been in the best on several occasions, as has Iles. The VFL side getting pumped will not affect their chances of senior selection.

I agree with MDC's assesment of Ried's defensive pressure but I think seeing it was his 1st game back in the one's I'd rather he have it bought up to him first if it continutes though it is something to be dropped for, but after that preformance and his in comparision too many others I don't think he should be dropped but it should deffinatly be addressed

You have been against him since before he got an afl game and often with critisms that were often untrue such as been a soft outside wingman.
He is harder then a lot of players with a lot more experince and throws himself into contests with wreckless abandon were a few more seasoned players would not. His been excellent in every game bar one that he has played and has certainly been AFL level for any player let alone one with less then 10 games to his name.
Shows a ton of promise is one of the shinning lights ( the other being pendles) in a rather lack luster group of young mids

Anthony is having massive bags kicked on him at VFL level and is a defender, Maccaffer is a half foward flank not mid. Iles hasn't been outstanding at VFL this year and when at AFL level did not do as much as Sharrord has and Stanley is in the same boat as Iles. For one reason or another you just have something against Sharrord I don't know what it is but your assesments of him are always way off the mark. I am not saying he is a star but just that your assesments of him are pathetic and often make me wonder if you have seen him play.

Whats been wrong with Rocca? When do you expect him back into the side?
Ok i have given this some thought and i hope this is how we go.
Out - Davis and Fraser, they need a rest, Davis especially. Cloke - suspended. Wakelin - Just don't think there is a matchup for him. Maxwell - Would rather have Goldsack in the team.
In - Wood, Goldsack, Dawes, McCarthy and someone else possibly Iles or even dare i say it Egan.
I know five changes is excessive, but if you are going to do it, they week before the bye is the time to do it. Davis isn't 100% and i doubt Fraser is either, they need a couple of weeks rest.
Can't really see anyone for Wakes to play on in the dogs forwardline, so send him back to the VFL or even let him have a rest.

This team would get smashed.
Two debutants (Dawes and McCarthy), and either Iles or Egan, against a rampaging Dogs outfit, without our starting ruckman, CHF, FF, and second best small forward / midfielder.
If this were to happen, it would virtually be a decision to forgo the four points against the Dogs in an attempt to have the players better off after the break.
Wakelin's match-up is either Minson or Welsh. Most likely Minson to be honest, with Brown to take the more mobile Welsh.
Can't see Anthony not getting a game this week.
