G'day lads,

Sorry to imped on your board, however could you please answer my query.

What different names has Kardinia Park had.

I can think of Shell Stadium, Skilled Stadium & Kardinia Park.

I also think it was once known (maybe for just 1 game) as BayCorp Stadium. Is this true?

It was Baytec Stadium.

-shudder-

Think it was called that for a whole year.

And IIRC, the whole area (cricket grounds, pool, etc) is still known as Kardinia Park. The actual football ground is "Skilled Stadium".

It still is Kardinia Park really. The ground isn't, the precinct is.

I dont know about anyone else, but I still refer to the ground as Kardinia Park or "KP". :thumbsu:Likewise, although for me it's either "Skilled" or "KP".

I'm not a huge fan of corporate stadium names (although I love the $$$ they pump into the clubs), I like the normal, traditional names of stadiums.

I know that, but we still play in the precinct, thus we still play at Kardinia Park.

That's the one.

Kardinia Park was first known as Shell Stadium on the eve of our first home match (round three) of the 1999 season.

Baytec took over the naming rights after 2001 and only paid a one-off $50,000 payment from memory.

Weeks before the start of the 2002 season, Skilled came to the party and the stadium had gone through three names in six months.

Remember the days in late 1998, amid our crippling debt, when there were suggestions KP was going to be known as Ford Park?

MC Labour Park.

That has to be the worst stadium name going around. In Australia it's close to it (although there are some shockers at local level).

But if you want bad stadium names, go to the US.

Pizza Hut Park
Dicks Sporting Goods Arena

I'd be ashamed to play at a ground with such a shocking name.

Did I read once as a kid that Geelongs' home ground used to be Corio Oval?

(pardon the ignorance) but is that the same place? or was this the case before KP was built?

It was a previous home ground, I think Geelong moved to Kardinia Park as Corio Oval was used for war efforts.

It's going to be Skilled Stadium for at least the next 5 years too as it said at the game on Sunday... and it still is Kardinia Park, just with naming rights to a sponsorship with Skilled. Just like AAMI is Football Park, Telstra Dome is Docklands Stadium, ANZ Stadium is Stadium Australia...

That's fantastic, I didn't hear that. Props to Skilled for coming to the rescue at an average time for the club - I hope it is paying dividends for them now.
