That's from the club's official website. I found it interesting that the club was coy over whether he needed a full reco and miss another 12 months, or whether he'd be right to go (cross fingers) at round 1, 2009.

Shocking news really disappointed for big Max Bailey need to get behind him & support him through another set back!

Dixie - they may well be still trying to work that out themselves - scans and professional opinion etc.
Shocking news for the big fella. 18 months of rehab and have it all go wrong 20 minutes into the first game. Heart goes out to him.

Bad luck Max, head up son! You'll be back bigger, better & badder next year!:thumbsu:
Our injury woes continue! Again, a chance for a youngster to step up and prove himself at Box Hill Seniors and gain more attention from the Hawthorn hierarchy.

He seems like a good young ruckman....hopefully he can come back and be part of what should be a great era for your club.
Muston and Bailey.:mad:Thats two failed knee reco's in the one year. The club will have to have a look at how we are managing these b/c what we are doing now isn't working.:thumbsd:
Musto managed a full season at Box Hill and I thought he was in the clear...
Good luck to them both, and I hope they keep their chins up, it must be incredibly hard to stay motivated.

Exactly what i was about to post. You would imagine Hawthorn will have to look at its procedures/ doctors or their recovery.
I'm not sure if it is the case, but do you think Max rushed himself back to early because he though he was falling to far down the pecking order? With blokes like Campbell, Taylor and now Renouf ahead of him?
Hopefully it is not the case, and poor Max has just been very unlucky.
Speedy recovery max.

The issue for us is the way Muston and Bailey did their knees. Muston's was barely a twist and Max's incident was a coventional knock. Obviously the operations structurally didnt work. If they are doing their knees from regulation impact, its a real concern. Couple this with our % of soft tissue injuries and we will be up sh*t creek if this continues deep in to the season.

wow, really bad news, hope he plays next year
but if he gets other knee problems, next year onwards, might be time to retire himeself, if his body cant hold up, which would be a shame

A colleague of mine is good friends with big bails (bails lives with his good friend). I emailed him this morning and this is what he wrote (direct quote):
"Mate it is absolutely heart breaking… I went along to the game and it was about 10 minutes into the game and didn’t look like anything when it happened. They had jeff kennett, ian dicker, shane crawford and robbie campbell all over at my mates house last night trying to get around him and keep his spirits up. He is pretty shattered but is a positive guy and already committed to getting back out there."
Good to see Bailey is positive and already committed to recovery. Gotta feel sorry for the big lad.

From the reports the graft ruptured which is a huge setback considering it was 17 months old. Should have been strong after 17 months FFS. Didn't Muston have probs with his graft as well?
Could it be time to give up on the traditional hamstring graft and go polly like malceski and have him up and ready rd109

I wouldn't think so yet, there was an NRL player who's knee went bung not long after he started playing again.

it has been reported and confirmed the technique used on Malceski is only for certain types of knee injuries. I am sure the Club and Medical staff will investigate fully.

Bad luck to Bails.
Hawthorn shouldn't of allowed him to play in the first place. Thought that it was a little too early.
RH - Rubbish, looked great at training, cant keep em on ice forever.

I remember when Andrew Russell our fitness guy was at port francou and wilson both did their knees again not long after coming back too.

What happened to the days where they wore the big knee support coming back from Reco's ala Shaun Rehn , David Schwarz .. just for those first few games for good support of the knee.
Terrible luck for the lad , saw him at the dome at the Essendon game , he looked happy and massive .. i couldnt wait til he was ready for the seniors this season , now it isnt gonna happen.
We have so many young promising players who cant get on the park and push up into the senior side :(

I saw Musto at Box Hill yesterday, and he seemed in great spirits, as was big Max (and this was AFTER his injury).
From what I heard from HAWKS HEROES yesterday, Max didn't think it was that bad. Sadly, it seems that it is.
All the best, Maxy!

u sure he had a hamstring graft?

Hmmm maybe you should read some books, get a degree in the area and then give Jack a hand at conditioning the boys?
But seriously trying to relate Jack's conditioning training, most of which is done preseason, to these guys re-rupturing grafts is just plain ignorant. These guys wouldve completed a rehab program largely devised by the physios, with input from the club doctor, and much less input from a conditioning coach. The wild assumption made on your behalf shows your lack of understanding of the medical side of a football club... Maybe stick to analysing game plans, or critising players, which you may have a little more knowledge on...
Im sure the guys at the club will be analysing any similarities between max and musto's operation, rehab and injury mechanisms to work out if theres a better way of doing things... Im sure if they come up empty handed they will be in touch SA HAWK for your learned opinion...

If ever there was a time to be constructively critical of the club it's now.
2 knee reco's in a short time frame suggests poor injury management. considering the building injury list, with thorp and a number of hammies, the injury management (doctors and fitness guys) must be closely scrutinized, and quickly.
if this continues, theres no way we're gonna win a flag!
having said this, the positive for the club, is that they promoted mcentee who will be much required now, and walsh appears to have some ability in the ruck. so some good foresight has put us in a position that we may be able to overcome some significant setbacks.
in the big picture, you can't expect to go unscathed, and you have to roll with the punches, andwe're gonna have to do that in a big way!
fitness and doctors must be scrutinized.

WHAT A C-BOMB.
Very very disappointed for Big Max. We definately have a player with him but this puts his career in doubt. IIRC very very few players have come back from two knee reconstructions but hope someone can give me some comfort with some names.
He is the absolute icing on the cake the big fella. Devastating. Just devastating.
Would be interesting if both Max and Musto had the same surgeon.

Will have to have a good hard look at the injury management and fitness at the end of the year. Don't want to be the next stkilda and miss the window due to injury.
It might just be terrible luck we are having but some clubs seem to be immune while others get hammered year after year. It can't be all luck.
