HAWTHORN will be without Chance Bateman for at least the next two weeks after the midfielder injured his hamstring in Saturday night's win over Adelaide.
But midfielder Tim Clarke says the Hawks are a chance to regain a trio of talent ahead of this Saturday's clash with North Melbourne at the MCG.
Midfielder Ben McGlynn will return from a four-match suspension, while experienced duo Shane Crawford and Brent Guerra are chances to join him as inclusions after overcoming knee and hamstring complaints.
"Chance has done his hamstring and will probably miss a couple of weeks, but he'll have a scan and that will confirm how bad it is," Clarke said.
"Guerra and McGlynn will be available, and hopefully 'Crawf' will be available for this week, but they're going to have to train and show the coaches they're ready to go."
Crawford, 33, Guerra, 26, and McGlynn, 22, have all been missing since the Hawks' round eight clash with Port Adelaide in Tasmania.
In other injury news, ruckman Simon Taylor and defender Trent Croad will face fitness tests later in the week to see if they have overcome a lacerated knee and bruised hip after being spared the trip to Adelaide.
Clarke, 26, said the return of hard-nut defender Luke Hodge, who rejoined the side in round 11 after missing three games with a hamstring injury, has boosted the side's morale given his "presence" on the field.
He also said it wasn't surprising to see the 24-year-old rack up 11 final term possessions, as well as kick the winning goal, just two weeks after returning to the game on Saturday night.
"Luke is one of the hardest working players at our club, and his last quarter was exceptional," he said.
"I think most great players in this competition play important roles when the side needs it, and he really stepped up for us.
"The training he does on the track will hold him in good stead for the rest of the year."
Although the Hawks came away with a spirited four-point win over the Crows, the match made headlines for other reasons with spearhead Lance Franklin finding himself in the umpire's book for a high bump on Michael Doughty.
Clarke said the Hawks would "wait and see" what the match review panel decide to do with the charge, although the club remains confident 'Buddy' was going for the ball.
He also said the club will not look to change its style of play, which is often described as "unsociable", despite a spate of reports and suspensions plaguing its season so far.
"He was going for the footy, and we'll just have to wait and see what the match review panel say about that," he said.
"He was fine after it. He played the game out pretty well and he had a pretty big impact for us in the second half.
"We're going to keep going at the footy; that's what our coaches tell us to do and every now and again, something might happen that will be up to the match review panel to talk about

Some good news at last!

He's 296 at the moment according to AFL Tables (http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/players/S/Shane_Crawford.html)

So maybe he should rest another week so his 300th is against Geelong??

Otherwise it's against the Aints at the Dome, and thats not a designated away game.

So if Crawf, Croady, Goo, McGlynn and Taylor are all ready to go what happens?

Mixed reports about Bateman as well. Tucky played well in the 2s, WHitecross pushing for selection.

Our foundation is getting more solid every week.

Correct LP, a good problem to have with Sewell to come back into the side also.

Yeah mate we're definitely going about it the right way.

Plenty of midfield exposure for Ellis, Morton, Kennedy (alas).

We've got a lot of players outside of our top 22 now that can walk right up and play their role.

Guerra is a big inclusion for us. He is a key in launching attacks through the cluster with his good disposal. If N.Thompson dosent play I wouldnt rush back Croad if he isnt 100%.

Clarke will make way for either Craford or Mcglynn as much as he gives 110% I hope this is the last we see of him. Will only get a game from here on if we have another big injury list.

Why alas for Kennedy? His kicking is no good, sure, but he's already at AFL-Level in his inside work and releasing handballs . . .

Looking forward to the McGlynn coming back, add some speed to the midfield.

Because he's not in the team.

Love the way he goes about it, but the kid had to make way for the senior players. Kinda shoots my 'expose the kids' angle down a bit.

So many players coming back in. It's a bit unfortunate for the younger guys playing well.
