Rather suprised no one had started this thread just yet

Saw this on the VFL website yesterday. http://www.vflfooty.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1619

CASEY Scorpions president John Sharkie says it is not a given that his club will strike an alignment deal with the City of Casey-bound Melbourne.

With St Kilda ditching the Scorpions last week to enter a five-year agreement with Sandringham, there is an expectation in VFL circles that Casey and the Demons will get together.

But Sharkie said it was not a fait accompli and that the Scorpions would be prepared to go it alone next season. He said he had already discussed with VFL bosses a financial assistance package if Casey went without an AFL affiliate.

Sharkie said Melbourne first had to find about $350,000 to seal a move to become a co-tenant at Casey Fields, and then commit to a joint community projects program. "Don't assume anything. It's not over the line by any stretch," Sharkie said. "We won't be rushed into anything. It all has to be done properly."

Pretty sure i also read something about it in the Sun the other day, about Casey talking to the VFL about financial assistance if they don't make an agreement with a AFL club for next season.

We may have jumped the gun a little getting excited by this in the following thread http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=451512

I don't mind anything written there, it just says they have to do it properly and get the whole move to Casey fixed up before they will join with them. If it doesn't work out we will just get someone else! I don't care I'm just happy to be away from Sandringham.

Have an agreement with a few clubs and distribute to clubs with a best fit policy.

Newton needs game time, send him to a club without a full forward.

Further, does it have to be a VFL club to align with? Is there anything to stop EDFL alignments?

I watched Sand VS Casey on the weekend and at half time they spoke to the president and he said that they want to be aligned with an AFL club and that you pretty much have to be aligned to have a chance at the premiership. And he went on to say that he is over 50% sure that a deal will be made with melbourne....

I heard that interview on ABC.
Sharkie seemed as though he wanted Melbourne to join but it was more of us putting it off... he also went on to say when asked what are the odds of the affliation going ahead, he replied over 50%..

i think it will happen.

the 350,000 could be an issue considering our growing debt

That would be stupid why develop professional players in a amature legaue. And i am sure other clubs in the EDFL would stop this due to one side beign a powerhouse or if you wanted to ship off 3 or so players to each club its a logistics nightmare.

More to the point more than likely we will form a alliance with Casey and believe it is a good thing for the club. For too long Sandy based players have been better players than out melbourne listed players and has stunted their development. Sautner at full forward for all these years is classic example and now when we desperately need a FF we dont have one who is ready.
