View Full Version : Ash Hansen hurting West Coast in the WAFL
Ash Hansen from all accounts is a top bloke.
Best clubman for season 07. Now the time has come for him to really show his commitment to the club.
He's currently playing for Swan Districts as their starting CHF. He runs around, leads up to the wings and gets his 10 or so marks. When he is pushed deeper he out bodies some kids and finishes with a few.
We all know what he can do offensively, it's what he doesnt do the other way that stands out. Cant turn, cant chase and barely lays a tackle, he's just too easy to step around.
Mean while, whilst all this is happening, young Notte sits on the pine getting colder, his body eating away at what little fat he has on him.
When he does come on, he pinch hits in the ruck or plays as a pocket. He gets bashed around in the ruck and is the 2nd or 3rd target up foward. He needs to start every game. He's going to be something special.
Whilst Hansen is showing us that 'he's still got it' the best foward prospect at our club sits and learns nothing.
Has Hansen signed a contract?
I'd have no qualms with him coming on board as a coach or development officer, but right now he's hurting the future of the West Coast Eagles.

yes he has signed a new contract and no to the rest....dont be so silly.
so every player in the swans forward line should step aside and let Notte develop his skillls further?
if anything it should boost his confidence by getting a lesser defender....
Notte played in the midfield for swans i heard. got 19 touches and a goal. sounds good to me.
Trump, you are super harsh on hansen. its sometimes warranted but i think you went a little too far with this one.

I dont.
Do you honestly expect him to offer more than Kennedy, Lynch, Chad Jones, Staker or Notte in the next 3 years?
His body is shot. It's a tough school.
He had his run and now he should bow out gracefully. Everybody would love to see a fairytale ending for him but quite simply it's not going to happen.
The body doesnt get less injury prone when you're his size.
I just dont think he has a defensive side to his game acceptable in the AFL.

I'd have to kinda agree, I mean where does he come in with Kennedy at CHF, Hunter/McKinley/Cones/Lynch at FF. Kennedy adds much more aggression and pressure at CHF.

Gee that's a seriously rubbish post, even by Trump standards.
I'm not a fan of Hansen, and I don't really see him as having a future with us. But he's entitled to the same opportunities as anyone else on the list, and its fair enough for him to be in the selection mix if he strings together form and fitness in the twos.
If the Swan Districts brains trust see him as a better first choice option in a key role than Notte, than that's their lookout- some might say that younger players would develop better if they were forced to win WAFL selection on their own merits rather than because someone held their hand and gifted them a career on a plate.

You need to put an R in forward.
You missed it twice.
Oh, and if he is sitting on the pine, then his body would be storing fat, not using it. You really are stupid.

Thats exactly my point. Notte had earned the right to hold down CHF and he had played that role very well. He was developing rapidly.
Since Ashely Hansen has returned, moving Notte out of his position which he had earned, Notte has gone off the boil.

Ah no, check the post again, the r's are there stupid.
Oh and I said he is getting cold, in order for the body to remain at homeostatic equilibrium, the body produces energy by gorging on stored fat.
Good try dipshit. :)

How can you blame hansen?
If notte was good enough he'd be playing. It's a tough world, hansen needs to get the best out of himself and is doing so. Notte can't expect everyone to step aside for him.
Keep trying hansen, keep trying notte, don't change anything.

I don't think we have so many proven key forwards that we should rush to throw Hansen on the scrapheap.
Kennedy has been earmarked for CHF. That's fine. But he's not playing at the moment.
Who's our long-term FF? People talk about Notte, but he's a kid. He mightn't make it, at least not for a few years.
Lynch has apparently been moved away from the goal square. Hunter has not demonstrated that he can be a permanent FF. Neither has Staker. Cones will be delisted. No-one knows which end of the ground Brown will play at.
In light of that, I think it is premature to draw a line through a player who actually stood up as a key forward.
We've got plenty of guys who might eventually usurp him. How about we wait until that actually happens before axing a 25-year-old CHF?
I think people are bit too quick to say, "Kennedy's our CHF, Notte's our FF and we have Lynch and Hunter moving in and out - so axe Hansen!".
It doesn't hurt to have more than one option in these positions.

Some pretty fair points.
Hansen is a proven foward after 50 odd games, but he also a proven liability defensively and from an injuries perspective.
Perhaps I was a dash too quick cast him aside completely.
Maybe Notte can be moved clubs ala Arrowsmith for more opportunity?

The difference between Notte & Arrowsmith is Notte is a Swan Districts boy, coming through their system and was part of the colts premiership team so he wouldn't want to leave there
Really funny that you should post this, you have more guts than me, but I have been thinking this same thought for the past couple of weeks. I went on Sunday wondering whether Notte would get much game time or switched on and off the ground, as per usual of late. Inspired decision to play him further up the ground to at least get him near the ball. Geez he has a sharp football brain as well.
However, if Notte is going to be the next FF then the match committee and Swans are going to have to juggle this very carefully and make sure that neither player is hindered.

OK, I'm going to come out and say what I have been thinking, but maybe the Eagles would look to move Hansen to another WAFL club (crazy girl is right, Notte won't move clubs). Or play him at CHF because you'll note he's been playing FF the past few weeks.

Agree GL but Trump's point on whether it's detrmiental to the development of a young, developing player is valid. Now, that's an issue for the club to balance but I agree that playing Hansen at FF at Swans has been impacting on Notte's ground time and possibly his development.

I don't see how that stops Notte from playing at FF, which is where he would eventually line up for WC.
Is there a rule in the WAFL that you can only have one key forward on the field at once?
There is no reason to push Hansen off into the sunset. If Swans Districts have any kind of system, there should be room for Hansen and a developing key forward in the same side.

I know, I just ignored that as incorrect, I got the point he was making though. Hansen's been starting FF the last few weeks.
Over the past 18 years I have sometimes wondered about that second bolded statement. But, Notte's body is not ready to be battered at CHF, it would be folly to play him there IMO. I actually think they found a good compromise on the weekend using Notte further down the ground on a flank or wing.

Thats an interesting pint, but why doesnt Notte play FF and Hansen play CHF???? it not that hard, he isnt hurting the club he at all, he is obviously above Notte ATM so thats why he is gettin more game time instead of him.

I dare say HANSEN has been playing Full Forward (thats how you spell Forward Trumpy:p) as thats were the EAGLES match commitee want him to play in the future and are trying him out at WAFL ranks to see if its plausable. Also this would greatly decrease the chance of him being injuried so often because he wont be covering the same amount of ground, and the lactik acid wont biuld up as high so he wont cramp as much there by not tearing that dodgy hamstring.:thumbsu:

why contradict yourself?
a dominant forward is the key essential in the forward structure. with out one wholl kick our goals? we've have 1 too many leading CHFs, we need a FF and a crummer like that lil bugger rioli.
