That's because he's still 18! Is it with or without hair?
I predict he will debut next year. Bookmark this thread.

From what I saw at ANZ, it seems he has put on some muscle. He's playing in defence at the moment, but that could possibly be a learning role for Brendan, and he could succeed Bazza as our next CHF. Or judging by those 3km time trials, perhaps a kind of ROK role where he is given free rein to run up and down and up and down the ground.

On another note i dont get to see reserves games so maybe someone else could answer this for me. Will Murphy be AFL ready by round 1 next year?

Great photo's.
On another note i dont get to see reserves games so maybe someone else could answer this for me. Will Murphy be AFL ready by round 1 next year?
From my observations he's has improved tremendously over the course of the season, but another season in the reserves would still be beneficial. He might sneak in a few games next year to give him some experience. I think it might depend whether he remains on the rookie list or gets an elevation to the senior list.
I was reading a live blog done by Tadgh Kennelly today and this is what really caught my attention
Question:
Hi Tadhg,
How have you seen your fellow Irishman Brendan Murphy’s progress this year? Do you think he will debut in the near future?
Kennelly's answer:
Brendan has come on very very well, I know he was close to selection the last few weeks but unfortunately he has damaged his shoulder, so he might not get back in time for anymore games. Next year it looks a matter of when, not if he will play AFL football
http://blogs.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/yoursay/index.php/dailytelegraph/comments/sydney_swans_tadhg_kennelly_live_blog/
I found that amazing and it looks like Murphy may be making his debut early next season.

If you believe the nuf nufs on another thread, games are irelevant, the standard of the comp is irelevant, all you do is turn up to the gym and training !
This (Murphy) is a great example of how naive those comments are.

Perhaps he would have struggled to find his feet if he was thrown into the VFL?
Perhaps he would have struggled to find his feet if he was thrown into the VFL?
He is old enough, if he did struggle to that extent, he would never make it in the 'big league' so why waste time with him.
The VFL would be the perfect place to learn how to play the game IMHO
grimlock
5 Sep 2008, 01:21
I'm not sure what his age has to do with it? He was 18 at the start of the year, never played a game of AFL, so you would think would struggle.
And you would imagine would have started in the VFL reserves with a bunch of unknowns, rather than his teammates which he would have been training with.

When did he hurt his shoulder?
I'M CONFUSED AND KINDA FREAKING OUT BECAUSE BRENDAN HAS TO PLAY!

5 Sep 2008, 11:56
Hmm, I totally read Tadhg's comment the wrong way. You may be right :(
Edit. Yep it says in the last reserves report he hurt his shoulder.
natlovestheswans
5 Sep 2008, 11:59
It doesn't make sense though..
Tadhg said that Brendan has been pushing for selection the last few weeks but then injured his shoulder.. now Brendan did play on Saturday.. so it's not like he got injured and then was pushing for selection to play in this weeks finals.. so wtf is he talking about?
DAMN TADHG AND HIM NOT MAKING ANY SENSE.

If he doesn't play, he seriously better atleast come down. He needs to see my banner. If he doesn't though then i'll put it away and get it out again next year.. haha, can't wait to put it up when he plays seniors. Totally embarrasing for him!

Sorry, maybe i did not word that properly.
I was just meaning that in previous times, young bodied (under 18's) were played against seniors and this could lead tro them getting career ending injuries or precipitate chronic injuries.
That is not the case with Murphy as he is 'of age'
I dont get your second point, if we had a VFL affiliate he would be playing with most of the same bloke he is playing with now, or originally in reserve grade with blokes he new as well as his new team mates (ie not at all).

He probably plays like an irishman who has only played a handful of AFL games! here are his ACTAFL stats - pretty good for a first year player... I wouldn't be suprised if Sydney give him a few senior games next year... http://www.sportingpulse.com/team_info.cgi?player=Brendan%20Murphy&action=PSTATS&pID=188678219&client=1-1051-0-65344-6255854
