I hate Jeff Goldblum with a passion. His mumble mumble in descending volume is unbearable and I used to have semi nightmares of the Dog in The Fly II, and there are many look away moments in this movie, but........

....it is mesmerising, great effects for the time and a great premise, but can I say one more time how much I hate that guy as an actor.

I think it's one of the best horror movies ever made, and a perfect encapsulation of David Cronenberg's primary obsessions: decay of the body, reshaping of the body with technology, the fusion of metal and flesh.

Oh, and Jeff Golblum is great.

Classic movie. I'm a fan of horror movies, but I think this is one of the very few truly good horror movies when looked at as a movie in general, not just as a 'horror movie'. Too bad the sequel was absolute crap.

As for Goldblum, I can't imagine anyone having done it better. Was perfect for the role as the mad scientist type.

Man, that movie (at the time), was as scary as the girls with too much skin...

Everytime I think Goldblum is an absolute douche, he does Life Aquatic and I love it.

I liked the movies, but if you are a fan check out the original vincent price movies as well. Very well made movies for the period.

As you said the effects for the time are outstanding, one of my all time favourite horror movies simply because I reckon most are crap.

Remember the painful arm wrestle ? Lol

8/10

When I spotted the title of this thread the first scene I pictured was the arm wrestling scene, brilliant.

The Fly 2 also decent.
