Is there any chance of a TV broadcast of the draft this year? Surely there is enough interest to just put it on Foxtel?

Doubtful. Although I do believe that the sponsor is keen to have things like the draft and the national championships on TV to get some value for money.
afl.com.au has done the draft coverage the last few years which is pretty much as good as TV coverage so long as you have broadband/cable internet.
I suppose when the draft was on TV it went for about three hours, now it goes for about 50 minutes - either some clubs like their heads being on TV or it was held up with commercials and interviews.

Call me sad (I won't blame you) but the draft ranks as one of the most interesting times of the AFL year for me. It's increadibly interesting to see the future talent coming to the club, and knowing that small decisions can mean the difference between your club being an also ran, or pushing for a flag.

as a richmond fan the draft is the best time of the year. all the hope, 6 months later i am waiting for the next one :D
If the AFL got serious about it the Draft could be a great presentation.
Every year that goes past supporters are more and more interested and knowledgeable on the kids.
They could slow it down and after each player was called, say for the first 2 - 3 rounds, they could show a small highlights package and for those present have a quick interview.
For the interstaters who weren't available to be there they could either have a pre recorded interview or possibly have them watch it all together in their own states with an interviewer present.

I agree, Would love it on TV.
The interest in it, is getting bigger every year.
Would love how they do it in America where each team has about 5 minutes for the 1 round and Goes down after that.
That would be good because they would have time to show highlights of the player, Tell what kind of player he is, Interview the player if he is there and Talk about who could be the next pick
I don't think the draft itself would be terribly interesting as a TV event. I remember watching it the one year they did broadcast it (1998 from memory) and it wasn't great.
What I WOULD like to see is a return of the draft wrap which Ch10 did in 2005 & 2006. They did a 1-hour show, discussing the first round draftees in some depth and a couple of minutes on each club, listing of their draft picks.

I quite enjoyed them.
I'm a bit of an off season sad case though, in the AFL NBA and NFL but I do enjoy draft day, even as dull as the AFL one is.
They could NBA?NFLize it and have it infront of a crowd, players in attendance and teams conferencing out the back somewhere or interstate.
Would make it a much slower affir so it's probably not a good idea.
Id much rather see the under 18's champs televised than the Draft.

I like the idea in general, but imagine how you'd feel as an interstater, if you record this interview, and don't get drafted.
In the meantime, we'll just have to keep listening to it on SEN.
They did televise it years ago, but stopped when ch. 7 lost the rights, and neither on 9,10 or Foxtel picked it up.
The wrap up they do on TV later that draft day is good enough for me.

TBH, amongst a fair bit of crap I reckon BF is the best place to come for post draft information. It's more interactive than radio talkback because you will definitely get to ask your question(s) and there's a range of opinions in reply, rather than the same voices we hear from every year that are paid not to be critical of any drafting decisions.
