Back page of HS, quote from McNamee saying we are seeking AFL approval for a second home game in canberra, if we can get our members another replacement game in Melbourne.
But McNamee also says the No.1 focus is still Casey. Thank christ
The 2 could work in tandem, we get about $310,000 for each Canberra game and we need $350,000 for the Casey move. So if the AFL approve Canberra, Casey's a done deal.
That said, my mind won't truly be at ease until the ink is dry on the Casey deal, we lose that and you can start digging

Even though I am a hawks fan I would be delighted to see you guys increase the number of games you are playing up here. I actually posted here back in March after the community camps as a number of people had commented to me about how well your team had engaged the community here. They had remarked about how much more approachable and likable you guys had been compared to the Roos.
I think the roos had worked their way up to about 1500 members from the ACT before they pulled out. I see no reason why you couldn't get better than that. I would buy one.
How well this succeeds depends on how the ACT accepts the team (I don't think this will be a problem) and how well you guys as members accept losing the 'home' games interstate. The ACT govt is very much pro-AFL and will support you however they can. Because we are starved of AFL the public will support you.
We (the hawks) have been burned a bit by playing in Tassie. I'm sure we could be hitting close to 45,000 members at the moment but there are many out there that won't buy a membership because of losing the home games to tassie. They don't want to encourage it. You guys need to support your club and if this keeps you based in Melbourne then you just have support it.

I'm a dees supporter from Canberra and there are massive numbers of dees supporters uphere. they would do well if we could get a 2nd game up here. The government wants a small committment from an AFL team to come up here a bit and I know i would it to be Melbourne.

I'm sure people will do their block over this, but whatever it takes to save our club as it is we have to do it.

And those people who kick a stink are the same ones who don't turn up to games in Melbourne anyway.
These games would be perfect for when we play West Sydney for financial and geographical reasons, as we would probably struggle to get 10,000 to that game at the G. Although hopefully our other interstate fixtures don't kill us. Anymore than 8 interstate games and I'd start to get a bit pissed off.
And as said above, if we can keep a bit of identity around that area, we could possibly start building up a bit of a relationship like the Hawks have in Tassie.
Anything to save my club.:thumbsu:

Sell 3 or 4 whatever i don't care.
Play our home games vs teams such as:
Freo, Port, West Coast, Adelaide etc. and instead of losing money off them, make $300,000. Although it will suck not being able to go to some of these matches, it's only temporary and we will make alot of money.
$300,000 per game should go a long way to reducing the debt we seem to have accumulated (I'm still astonished it's been allowed to get this bad, I really am).
Some more short-term pain for what will hopefully be long-term gain. The best thing about it is that it's at a neutral venue. No more of that Gabba BS.

If you can engage the local community, with a little bit of time, these will become games with a home ground advantage, like we have in Tassie.
I would prefer 3 games for us (V GC, WS, Freo, Port & WC only), leaving 8 home & 3 away (half the season) @ the 'G.
You should strive for same.

I think Melbourne could learn from a lot of North's mistakes and take full advantage of Canberra.
If Melbourne are interested in keeping a 2-3 game presence in Canberra for a long time which I think they should as the season will go to 24 rounds, with the 2 new clubs.
They could use Casey for a majority of games if they get the ground and blockbusters at the G against big Vic teams and 2 home grounds. Not only that, by offering a presence in ACT the AFL will not move them as Canberra could not support a fulltime AFL team. Melbourne could setup an Insurance Policy for survival....!
IF they could get some cash, they could go in partnership maybe to work with a Canberra VFL team...?
There is so much they could do, just depends what their goal is. If they just need some short term cash then they will get that by not putting any work in at all, but if they want to grow the supporter base then they will have to put some more effort into it.
