WESTERN Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade has responded to Richmond coach Terry Wallace's claims that his club has been disadvantaged with this year's draw, given the Tigers play only three interstate sides in Melbourne and travel five times.
He said the Bulldogs are more than happy with their draw that involves seven games outside Victoria, and just three with a home-ground advantage in Melbourne against interstate sides.
"I think the draw is the draw," he said.
"We've played three interstate and we've won them. That's what you're given.
"Everyone can whinge and moan at certain stages, but we're certainly happy with the draw and you make do with what you've got."

I can see both sides of the argument. The draw is rigged but there's no use complaining. A competitive/winning side doesn't need to complain.
I agree with Eade..... half the sides in the competition make the eight... regardless of the draw if you cant make the eight then you dont deserve to be there.
Having said that there are sides that get an easier draw then others and are more likely to make the eight.

The Bulldogs didn't play anyone imposing until about round six and by that stage their confidence was so high they started to believe their own bullsh-t. Bock broke his arm in round one. Essendon had four hamstring injuries. Eade wouldn't want to ride his luck too hard because it will come back to bite him in September; maybe sooner.
Having said that the Tigers should have put a major dent into Footscray's juggernaut but failed to do so and that's not an issue with the draw but with Terry's inability to shift the loser mentality into a winning one at Punt Rd four years in. That's why the natives are restless.

Agree with Eade here too. Cut the whinging Plough, we know you're the master of spin, but Reign it in champ, just start winning games.
The Draw is a farce..... has been ever since we stopped playing everyone twice, but live with it... Moaning doesn't help.

Don't the bulldogs purposely play interstate ? Well its no wonder they don't want to be seen as moaners.
Eade is just defending his team's inability to stand on there own two feet finacially.

Until richmond starts winning consisitently and earns some respect in the football world we will continue to be the AFL's rag doll in terms of the draw. Classic example this year...not ONE Friday night game. Says it all really. We can control our own destiny buy becoming really competitive.

The draw is an ass but there is no point complaining Tezza, I wonder what his hobby horse will be next week:rolleyes::o
It's easy to tell others to stop moaning when you're up the north end of the ladder though;)

Why should we accept being screwed every year?
Sorry don't agree we shouldn't moan.
You don't stand up for your club, you get what you deserve, and that's usually getting shafted by the AFL every year.
Winning games though would probably get us getting games anywhere we want.

TW is just doing his job making the sponsors happy by doing a press conference. You never get anything in press conferences now days. Eade has little to complain about. They're playing Pies at Telstra Dome Sunday Night. The Dogs must have slipped Demetriou a 50! Collingwood supporters will be very confused when they rock up to the MCG at 2pm on Sunday and there team is nowhere in sight.

What I'm saying is, regardless of your draw, if you dont make the finals in a competition half the teams play in the you dont deserve too.
I'm not contradicting my self when I say that some clubs have any easier draw.... thats just the luck of the draw.

Wallace should have been careful how he said it because a legitimate gripe came across as sour grapes.
Rodney Eade however should STFU! What's he buying into the Tigers position for?
Never liked the man.

Terry's right, the best teams should be 'challenged' with the more difficult draws, not the worst.
We play the most interstate games.
We also play the least interstate teams at home.
We cop the bad end of the stick in both cases!
We cop the bad end of the stick in both cases!
And it seems we cop it every year. Meanwhile Collingwood get carte blanche treatment no matter where they are on the ladder. It's bad enough they get nearly every blockbuster, but a draw which makes them just breeze into the finals is pretty unfair.

Nice description of Eade, I don't like him either. I have to say though, Wallace seems to be a common denominator in these slanging matches between coaches. Maybe small man syndrome at play. Wallace hasn't had much success so is trying to puff himself up in other ways.

If you a shit team you get the best draft selections but a bad draw. A fair trade off. If you are still not happy, you need to become a decent team.

Absolutely he's right. The Tigers have had one of the toughest draws so far this season
Considering this, they have performed pretty well, and now have an opportunity to challenge for the 8.
Well done to TW and the coaching team for keeping the side focuesed during these tough games:thumbsu:

earth to tiger....listen up....
We play the most interstate games - The interstate teams have their 40 thousand members and by and large conservative figure 30+ thou at the games.
Now if you were looking at the wooden spooner, and you were thinking ok, what teams dont we want the wooden spooner to play alot here in melb, because it would be up to the supporters of the spooner to make the numbers up, what would you do?
Its all about the numbers game dude, the AFL want to show you that their percentages went up, so what do you do? you make it so...this got to make it fair shit, is all pissing in the wind...its all about business ;)

if tigers fans really cared about getting a fair draw we'd be on the phone to Andy Demetriou demanding it.....
....while holding his life partner Eddy McGuire hostage, and slowly removing his fingers , Man on Fire style, or alternatively lopping off an ear, Reservoir dogs style
if we did that we'd play 22 home games, all on FTA tv and all on friday nights
in fact if we did that we'd have all coburg games on FTA tv on friday nights too:D

again...you don't understand...'Tuesday with Terry' is a joke.
How embarrassing is it for a coach (who's done nothing) to sit there and pontificate on the game.
He has no track record as a coach to comment as if he knows about the game from a coaching point of view.
He makes a fool of himself every time he opens his mouth.
Other coaches know it, and Eade pointed it out.
Again, shut up and coach Terry.
Once you've achieved something as a coach, then talk all day about any BS.
Then those in the media and those viewing your silly Press Conferences will take you seriously.
Why are WE (the RFC) whingeing about the draw, when we've lost games where we've beaten ourselves by choking, playing tempo football, and not knowing how to win?
The draw's had nothing to do with.
Terry's covering his tracks.

Some clubs get bent over and others can do what they want. How people can support an inequitable competition is mind boggling. The same people supporting Eade on this will probably be screaming when the draw comes out next year.
If it's not interstate games, it's that rotten Telstra Dome. Our home is the MCG, yet the longest serving co-tenants last week played at the Dome and the Bulldogs (yes, the Bulldogs, Eade) played Brisbane at the 'G. It's not their home ground FFS.
We'll moan if we want. He should look after his own miserable club.

It is not equitable to begin with. Loser teams get the best draft picks. Winning teams get the big matches. Ironically, that evens things out.
There are no excuses for the Tigers continued under performance. It is not the AFL's fault. It is the coach and the recruiters who are to blame.

You think that if Collingwood were down the bottom of the ladder the AFL would send them interstate or give them games at the Dome.
Nice logic, but don't think it works that way in real life.

Quite apart from the context of this thread, but...
We have abundant replacements for West (who has hardly played this year) and eagleton (rotated off the bench this year) in the midfield. Aside from Boyd, Cooney, Griffen, Ray, Cross, Guido, coming through we have Higgins, Ward (yes Im counting him as a quality replacement already, you can just tell), Hill (flashy and inconsistant at this stage, but his best is very good) and possibly Dylan Addison whohas been given tagging roles in the midfield in bursts.
Johno, Welsh and Aker up forward. Here we are thinner on the ground. Grant was pick #5 so you would hope he would come on as a key forward. Higgins and possibly Hill could play forward if not in the guts.
In the ruck we have minson and it is well known that we intend to F/S Ayce Cordy who will probably be ready to play as Hudson retires so good timing there. Street (at 27yo?) to be kept in the broom closet in case of emergency.
Down back we have Lake, Williams, Everiit, Hargreave, Gilbee and Morris who all have at least 5 years left in them and will form the nucleus of one hell of a backline over that period, although I expect that one of the two younguns might migrate forward when they are up to it.

Thats a brightside opinion of what is to come. Experience isnt easily replaced but i do think the backups your team has are pretty good. I am most suprised at the doggies to be honest, i thought this year you guys would be down the bottom of the 8 with all the retreads and oldies you have but they seem to have gelled well. Good to see a former struggling club going well.

Maybe they would but I don't think that would be a pathway to winning the premiership that has eluded them. Teams that make excuses never get anywhere. Collingwood made it excuses for why it lost grand finals to Brisbane and those excuses probably contributed to their failure.

My assessment Stefoid ... and I have seen eight of your games live this year.
Forward line is ageing....it's now or never. I hope Grant recovers and goes on to be a find for you guys. Though worth noting, Johnson really hasn't had what you would call a great season, so you should be fine there.
Tough call, but actually think you are better off without West. The midfield is burning and is quick as lightning...I'm not really sure what he adds. Tough call I know, but I think he may do harm rather than good.
Not so sold on Higgins. Big wraps...but patchy! But only young and has time on the sold. Good call on Hill...inconsistent...but which kid of his age ain't!
Midfield stocks look impressive (even moreso if you exclude the name of Farren Ray...I know our own Tabling cops it, but Ray was a similar draft pick at 3 or 4 if my memory serves me correct and shown less. Persist with Addison, he's good. And quite right, Ward will eventually end up there and should be a good player.
Rucks are good though wouldn't want an injury to Hudson...would ruin your set-up and cause Minson to move. I think we've seen enough of Peter Street to know he don't cut the mustard. But he'll keep his spot!
Backline could do with another tall and to tighten up. I think the leaks down there are being masked to a degree by the fact you are such a free-scoring team. There's been some big scores scored against, but when you win this gets glossed over. But plenty of talent there.
All in all, the list is in good shape!

NAME me the coach that hasn't at some time commented negatively on the draw, or on interstate travel?
Matthews, Malthouse, Eade...they all do it!!!
The draw sucks and is inequitable....and that is made all the moreso by the unpredictability of teams. Hey, a trip to Perth would always have been a negative...for the most part it's a positive these days. How many games have those sides won at home?
I see no harm in highlighting how unfair the draw can be.
At the end of the day, Wallace is an employee of the Richmond FC...it's in his interests and our club's interests to go in to bat for them!!
